The whole having someone protect the next generation always seemed pretty odd. I mean the 800 pound elephant in the room, named Son Gohan, would destroy Uub/Goku/Gotenks etc... Gohan even though he doesn't train, is so far ahead of Goku/Vegeta, there's really no need to train anyone else. I doubt even with Gohan getting weaker because of not training and Goku constantly training, I doubt Goku would ever close that gap.

Super Saiyan 3 is what negates "Goku = Vegeta," because Goku is a much stronger person because of it.

Kanzeban changed from almost 20k to almost 30k

and changed the last couple of pages in the End of Z part right? What was Vegeta's statement in the new one or what were the changes made if you don't mind me asking.

If you want to put a negative spin on everything, yeah, you could call him a jerk. But half of the stuff you mentioned isn't even bad! For instance, having Gohan fight Cell. In case you forgot, Goku couldn't kill Cell, even if he wanted to! And Goku not wanting to come back to life? He said it was because he was a magnet for evil! Obviously he couldn't see something unrelated to him, like Boo, coming.

And if you take Neko Majin Z's word for it, Goku brings Oob over to his house. Either way, he can teleport at any time, so he can always see his family. If he doesn't train Oob, who else is going to protect the Earth? Obviously none of the Saiyan kids want anything to do with it. They're the real jerks!

The only reason the whole Cell Games stuff is brushed over is because it actually worked. After all those years, Goku still hadn't realized that Gohan didn't like fighting and it was a stupid idea to throw him into the midst of an important battle, in the hope that Cell would beat up to the point that he'd finally flip out. Yeah, I know, it worked, but it was a miracle it did. And I'll let you have the "magnet for evil" point.

Vegeta said at the end of the manga that "I know you too well, Kakarrot...this [training Oob] isn't about protecting Earth", and then a page later, Goku asks Oob if he'll promise to fight him sometime. That implies that Goku never intended to have Oob protect the Earth--he just wanted to use some kid as a challenge for him.

And the Saiyan kids aren't "the real jerks". I actually admire them for being characters in the series who, for once, want to do something normal in their life. Whether you like it or not, they just wanted to be normal Earthling kids. I think they're more Earthling than Saiyan, because they were born 'n bred on Earth, act more like Earthlings than anything and the only thing remotely Saiyan about them is their strength. Gohan had ambitions of studying to become a scholar, and Goten and Trunks were normal teenagers (I don't blame the former for wanting to go on a date rather than piss around at a tournament because of his dad's selfish desire to fight some kid).

I agree with Rocketman. If Goku was to die, then Vegeta would take over now that he cares about protecting the Earth. You know, someone who actually cares about training and getting stronger.

@Savage68: I think, after the Kid Boo incident, both Goku and Vegeta realized that SSj3 was useless, and Vegeta wouldn't work towards such a flawed transformation.
