Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Sonic the Hedgehog first transformed into Super Sonic when a rampaging robot known as the Universalamander ran havoc across Robotropolis and into the Great Forest. Realizing he was outmatched, Sonic quickly gathered the 7 Chaos Emeralds and 50 Power Rings needed to transform into Super Sonic. He quickly made short work of the roboticized beast, having quickly taken a shrinking device Rotor Walrus devised and shrank him to the point where he wasn't a threat anymore. (StH: #4)
^ According to the wiki he needed 50 power rings. In the games he needs 60.

Nope games are 50 and current comics might be none. As a matter of fact S onic only uses rings in gameplay he transforms without them post sonic adventure.

Oh yeah, it is 50 for the games. Thought it was 60 for some reason. But there is no proof he still doesn't need 50 rings in the recent comics. It may be that he already has enough rings to initiate and maintain the transformation. Sonic has only really said he needs 50 rings with the Chaos Emeralds. He has never indicated that he doesn't anymore.
Back on topic. I honestly think he has had the SSJ3 transformation for longer than a year. 7 years is a long time and for a dead person who wouldn't get tired and could train as much as he wants. Perhaps 24/7 if Goku didn't feel the need to stuff his face. Then I honestly think he probably obtained the transformation 3 years ago. Though this is just my opinion. Goku never really indicates how long it took him to obtain the transformation really.

It was 7 emeralds and 50 rings in Sonic 2. Back in the 90s I've always thought the form itself was just the shout-out to DB, but knowing what I know now I never realized there were more allusions (7 dragon balls, 50x multiplier).
