Technically, he was a baby in DB Minus, only a baby of three years old (I checked the chapter to make sure, and three years old is still considered a baby *though a big one*), and not a newborn baby. Also, Saiyans grow weird (Goku just grew giant off screen somewhere, Goten and Trunks look about the same years after the end of the Buu Saga, etc), so it's all relative.
A three year old isn't considered a baby. At most, a baby could be two, but not three.

are we taking the words too seriously? Could have been a translate issue. I'd be great if someone confirm this with the original Japanese script. The manga translated and republished in my country has Roshi's word as "a little boy - a child", not "baby" . And i recall Gine call the same 3-year-old a "baby" in a online version of Minus.

Who gets told it's his fault for being so careless? Goku.
Who has to live with that similar to how he wanted to make Freeza live with the fact he'd been beaten by what he considered trash, and have to live with that shame? Goku.
Freeza got the perfect revenge.

Depends on area or even the person themselves. Baby can range. Some people consider anyone under 6 or 7 a baby. It's not uncommon for a 3 year old or even 4 year to be called a baby.

I'm taking them at face value. Maybe VIZ translated it wrong.

Baby's aren't 3 years old. He's a toddler. A 7 year old isn't a baby, and I would hope those people are being metaphorical. An infant/baby can't talk. I don't want to get sidetracked on the issue of what constitutes a baby and a toddler in the main thread. If you want to continue, then PM me.

Things change in comics often. For example, pre-Crisis DC, there are several Batman stories that go back and forth on whether Martha Wayne was shot by the mugger, or did he only shoot her husband which led her to having a fatal heart attack at that happening. Also Wayne Manor was not Bruce's family home at all the time, and just a place he bought. Also in older Marvel stories Xavier wasn't too much older than the original X-Men at first. Only old enough to be their big brother, instead of nowadays where he's old enough to be their father.

I'm surprised "you know who" didn't come to this thread yet. He would LOVE the shit this thread since we're talking about inconsistencies.*sarcasm* I kid, I kid.

But on a serious note, half of the stuff you said TC, I think those were plot twists. I mean hey, sometimes a super straightforward story isn't that fun.

True enough, but you're talking about American comics that have a beginning and an infinite middle, told by many different authors. DB is one story told and drawn by one author (he had an assistant, but I digress), so it's different. It's not a case of different authors having different views on how they see the characters and stories, it's one author who often forgets his own continuity. This is more like FRIENDS where the writers can't seem to make up their mind about how old the characters are. Seriously, Chandler claims Rachel is 28 in season 3, but she doesn't turn 30 until season 7?

I just remembered while watching the first episode of the Demon King Piccolo arc... It's repeatedly stated that the Mafuuba kills the user. Mutaito died using it, Tenshinhan intends to use it fully knowing that he'll die from it...
Yet in the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, God tries using the technique and everyone is like "Oh of course! That way he could have defeated Piccolo without harming himself at all!" I mean I guess one could say that if one is sufficiently strong, one can survive the technique, but the way they talk about it literally goes from "Use it and you'll die!" to "It's completely harmless to the user!"

It's pointless to argue English terminology since the original statements were in Japanese anyway.

Mewzard wrote:But it never states this in the manga about tailless Saiyans (at least, that I recall). Nothing about being "tailless 2nd generation Saiyan/Human hybrids" sounds like it should make them special easy Super Saiyans. Frankly, Toriyama was probably just done with the Giant Ape form and tail weakness and wanted them to turn SSJ quick, for a joke at Vegeta's expense.
Yeah, nothing is stated in the manga. Gohan & Vegeta are just WTF when they see SS Goten & Trunks, and that's it.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I thought Prince Vegeta was named after His Father who named the planet after himself after they wiped out the Tuffles which is what made him king; before he met Freeza. Is none of this true? Isnt that how it works? If it doesnt than the filler than at least said this as well made more sense to me.

If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.
