Um.... We are talking about English words conveyed through Romaji. Shinra Tensei doesnt count. I do agree with you, "Almighty Push" WTF?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but "Buu" is the straight romanization, while "Boo" is the adapted spelling used to match the name's source.TheAldella wrote:No, but in reality, there are tons of cases in which I could see one using the romanization just...sounds better. Beerus being an example. I have an undying resentment of the fan translation Bills. I also like a lot of Naruto romanizations or non-translated terms because they just sound really "cold blooded" to me. Shinra Tensei being one of them.
Boo over Buu is one I just can't seem to like though. The "uu" just makes the Ultimate Gohan absorbed state seem way cooler.

This could be something similar to "Babidi"/"Bobbidi".Herms wrote:Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but "Buu" is the straight romanization, while "Boo" is the adapted spelling used to match the name's source.TheAldella wrote:No, but in reality, there are tons of cases in which I could see one using the romanization just...sounds better. What I'm getting at is that TheAldella seemed to be saying that "Boo" was a direct romanization, when in fact the direct romanization would be "Buu". Just a minor nitpicky thing, but I wanted to make that clear.

I think it all depends on the name meaning and source. For example, a lot of characters in Sailor Moon have bizarre spellings since they're based on minerals. Usually they get horribly mistranslated. Like the character ユージアル commonly gets translated "Eugeal", which is understandable, but the source of her name is Eudialyte.
On an unrelated note, one of my managers is Japanese, and she changes the spelling of her name on a regular basis. Her name is Ami, but she has written it as Anmi, Ammi, Ami, Amy, etc.
