Is there anything you like better in the dub?

But yea, the cell games are definatly my favourite part of the dub.

I like perfect cell's articulite voice.

And it is so cool, when Cell starts calling Gohan a monster.

The dub it was the "I'm Perfect" line. I haven't seen that ep in Japanese yet, but the English manga has "Impossible! It can't be! I'm Invincible!" as his dying words. I prefer the "I'm perfect" line myself.

Same. I loved that line in the dub. It's the same one they used in the B1 cutscene for Cell's death too.

Are you sure? I'm thinking of the music that starts right when Gohan says "This is the beginning of the rest of our lives!" and flies off. I can't seem to find it on iTunes without at least knowing the song's title...

It's such a good song. It kinda sounds like "Trunks Story," if that helps.

"Ku" is the Japanese equivalent to "Grr." But is really multipurpose depending on the situation.

It can also imply physical pain (whereas "grrr" would be more about frustration and anger, I guess).

"Grrrrr" is a universal indication of pain; people tend to say it even if they don't know any language! I say "grrrr" if I hit my head on the door frame, for example. Why do the Japanese go "Kkk-kkk-kk" when they hurt themselves, or get angry?

"Grrr" is a natural response (like "ow!").

Well, it's natural to you, anyway. But it's not universal.
You cite "ow!" as a natural response, but in France, we tend to say "aïe!". And in Japan, they don't have a problem with using "ita!" (twice the syllables, twice the pain?).

(and I don't really associate "grr" with pain specifically... it's really anger or frustration, as far as I'm concerned... 'could be anger at feeling pain, sure, but...?)

I would say there isn't many times when I prefer Funimation's dub over the original Japanese version, but there are a couple gems in there.

In the History of Trunks, the dub was almost better in every single way. From choice of music, to the incredibly dark ambience Funimation created in an already dark story.

In the scene where Gohan is standing in the background while Trunks is trying to transform was unnarrated, but the little speech inserted by english Gohan made it much more dramatic. And then after Gohan loses his arm you hear Bulma tell him that he's going to hurt, followed by Gohan's screaming.

Then last but not least, the bitter-sweet music played at the end when Trunks goes into the past, it just suited the scene far better than the happy-go-lucky tune they used in the original.

I was also a fan of several of Faulconer's themes, including SSJ Vegeta, Androids, Cell, Majin Boo, and SSJ3 Goku. They just felt much more energized and fit really well.

What else...Vegeta's little monologue after he was defeated by 18 and he's sulking in the rain storm. Super Boo playing head games against Gohan, and later Goku (I guess that just leaves you now, eh dad?)

Goku's speech to Vegeta about why they should fuse, people popcorn, and Kid Boo's voice.

I think that some of the voices from the dub were perfect like Goku and Piccolo. No offence to the Japanese dub its still great!

I think the only thing I REALLY like better from the dub is that Goku voice isn't as high-pitched and he sounds like a normal guy that's old enough to have 2 children and a granddaughter! But I love both the dub and the original as two seperate things.

I still think the only reason people have any kind of problem with Goku's voice in the Japanese version is all because they didn't really grow up watching that version like many others did. o_o

Granted, Goku's voice isn't bad being done by a male (such as the Mexican-Spanish dub or Ian Corlett doing Goku's voice), though not many of them really seemed to capture the complete charm of Son Goku like Masako Nozawa did. Especially since she played the same role since 1986.

Yes... I know the history... I don't have a problem with his original voice, Masako Nozawa, at all... other dub viewers probably don't either... it's just nice to hear Goku get a guyish voice I guess.

The dub can never be exactly like the original obviously!! All the characters are slightly different. Nothing wrong with liking two different portrayals, it just adds on to the charm!!

Note, I did say the others weren't bad.

They just didn't FULLY capture who Son Goku is and his personality. That's not saying they're awful or badmouthing them or anything. I'm just simply saying it's not 100% perfect.

Speaking of Ian Corlett, I would like to say that I thought he was a dang near perfect interpretation for an English Goku. I wish every day and every night that he could have acted as Goku for the entire Z Series, and not just 1.5 seasons and some over-edited movies.
