What moments in Dragon Ball makes you cry?

The scene that probably makes me cry the most, would be when everyone thinks that Goku is dead at the 21'st Budokai. That's all so emotional.

1) When Goku sacrifices himself during the Cell Games and seeing Gohan's reaction. This scene makes me cry whether it be english or japanese. Usually, only one version will choke me up but for this one, either will do it, although I prefer the english. I think Stephanie Nadolny's cry of "DADDY!" was just perfect. So much hurt and pain in that single word. Likewise, Masako Nozawa's "OTOUSAN!" was heartwrenching. I first saw the scene in english and bawled like a baby. Then I saw it in Japanese and did the same thing.

OH....MY...GOD. That's the moment I only felt moved & torn up in my heart. I felt like a tear wanted to come out of me when I saw that scene. It wasn't because Goku was dying, but rather he wanted to stay that way. The music that played in that scene (in the JPN version) was perfect & really made that scene very emotional. It has to be one of my fav pieces in the whole DBZ BGM collection.

I watched DBZ in English when it was on cable here originally. It was so censored, so badly dubbed and the music was so crappy that I never connected with it emotionally. Any time my fiance saw me watching it she dismissed it as a kid's show and made fun of me.

Well now that I've got season 1 on DVD, I sat her down and we began to watch it in original Japanese. I was amazed but she's really into it now! It's great.

Last night we watched the episode where Yamucha died. Now, she doesn't know the character well. She's never seen the original Dragonball series, but the scene played out so effectively that it made her cry. I was amazed that I was getting a bit teary eyed too. It was probably a combination of the sparsely used music, interspersed with effective use of silence, as well as of course Bulma's voice actor's really great work when she sees his dead body on the TV.

I expect more tears from her when Piccolo dies, a character she's actually got to see grow a bit more than Yamucha.

I'm so happy the original audio is included in this set. English = Poop.

I didn't misunderstand you. You didn't like the Japanese version. Even though that's the way it's meant to be seen and by liking the English better, you're in effect, a crazy person.

Well it is.
If people over here weren't so lazy and put off by subtitles there would be no need for dubbing in the first place. They didn't make the show with the intent to dub it into English. Therefore it's not meant to be seen that way.

It just gets me pissed off. Like when I went to see Pan's Labryinth and as soon as the subtitles popped up about 8 people left. One of which said, "It's not even in English? What a waste of time."

Their loss, they missed a great movie because they were being ignorant.

Nor are the people who call the Japanese "shitty", "gay" and so on cooler for doing so. Truth be told, both are as different as night and day. However, one should at least respect the Japanese version, as its success is the reason the show continued and was even licensed in other countries including the United States.

What can I say, though. There's a nine-year old born every minute, right?

Seriously I don't care, I have sat through the Japanese edition and read the subs. I have also watched dubbed movies take Battle Royale for example. Sure Dragonball was made for the Japanese audience but the dub was released for an english audience or whatever language you watch it in. Just because you think that's the way the show is meant to be seen, the people that watch the dub watch it the way that it was meant to be seen and some people prefer it to the Japanese edition.

I guess like everything it all boils down to difference in opinion, for the record though I like both.

That is correct, I never said anything was gay or stupid. I am just implying that your not any better than any one else or amount to anything morre than someone who enjoys the dub over the japanese audio.

In terms of Goku's voice, I most prefer (one of) the Chinese version they showed in Taiwan. It embodied Goku's light-heartedness, a bit of fatherliness, and was also masculine. It probably resembles the American version, if I can remember from the 5 episodes I watched.

But i still give uber props to Nozawa-sama. I can't really picture her doing anything but a male character's voice. Case in point, while my sister was watching an OP episode, I hear what I think is "Goku's voice," and much to my horror, when I see the actual charcter Nozawa is playing, it's Dr. Kureha, a wrinkly-faced lady with a "hot" body. javascript:emoticon(':shock:') Gives me the creeps.

I'll add myself to the DBGT final ending for having been near tears and when alt. Trunks' finding Gohan dead. In terms of manga, Chichi, crying on the floor, after she finds out that Goku will not be coming back in the end of Cell saga.

I never REALLY cried while watching DBZ, but I do remember two times when I almost cried.
The first case I can remember is the scene at the end of the Cell Games Saga after Goku died, and has told everyone that they shouldn't revive him. I've only seen it in english, but it was still a really touching scene. Sure glad they had all those flashback-scenes, it wasn't nearly as good in the manga.
The other case is when Namek exploded. Even though I knew that Goku would survive, it was just so emotional.
