I've actually set up
boards.daizex.com as a sub-domain with an auto-forward on it. I'd prefer not to use and publicize it right in the navigation to the site, since I prefer to have
the rules be the first thing people see.
When we move the forum over, I'll change the forwarding over to the new address (obviously).
I just have the boards as the first button on my Firefox toolbar

Well, it should be possible to literally have the subdomain act as a mask to point to the IP of wherever the forums are stored on the server of your choice. I think you control this through whatever DNS service you use (like GoDaddy or something) paired with the nameservers for the server you're moving the forums onto.
Basically, although the boards might be literally stored at godofchaos.sexybeast.org/daizex, it could be accessed through boards.daizex.com with all amended addresses using that subdomain. This would be much cleaner, as well as give the impression that they're stored on the same server even though they're not. In any case, it would be much more convenient and easier to remember for people who manually type in the URL.

Oh, I'm well aware.
I just haven't decided how I'm going to do it, yet.

You could make a lot of us aware via podcast(s).
Or you could send a global message, if you have that ability.

No, no... What I mean is that I haven't decided if I'm actually going to use a pointer going forward, if I'm going to mask the URL in the process, etc.

Ah I see. I'm sure you'll do what is best, but I'm not completely sure what difference it makes whether you mask the URL or not. I just don't understand.
