Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

Goku is shown struggling with Bills' final Sun-looking energy sphere while firing his Kamehameha in space, which implies it's the final battle. One has to be destroyed by Bills' energy sphere, either Goku or Bills himself.

Ummm,...no? The scenes with Birusu's "giant ki ball of death" and Goku's Kamehameha in "space" happen with our hero still in his orange overshirt, while the stare down between the two of them happens with Goku in his blue undershirt. So while that may be the final battle, every shred of evidence right now implies that both of them survive the attacks. What, if anything, happens after the stare down is a different story though...

I wonder when we're going to get a trailer with lots (or at least a decent amount) of new footage.
They said as of Feb. 1st that they were basically done with only some minor changes needed.

I did go to check the archive for OPZ's news updates, but there's nothing there as of when each trailer came out (I wasn't keeping track of this while it was happening; I didn't think I needed to at the time because I made the bad assumption that "surely by February I'll know a lot more about the plot" which did not happen) but judging by their official website, we're due for 2 or 3 more new trailers before BOG comes out.

The footage we have now matches up with where OPZ was as of the 2nd trailer which also has a lot of "clips of characters jumping into action". Their 1st trailer is a teaser of Oda's office, just like BOG's "Goku on a cliff" was.

I'm not sure I'd line up that 3rd commercial with its 2 new seconds of Vegeta flying upward with OPZ's 3rd commercial, as it's not only not on the website, but OPZ's 3rd one has loads of new animation, so I don't think the semi-new Vegeta one counts.

I'm really hoping we get the real 3rd trailer some time this month.

I find it interesting that they're using "blue" "yellow" and "red" written in katakana to describe the color cases instead of the colors' names in Japanese. Is that usual?

Shueisha really is pulling out all the stops with the secrecy; if their goal was to make people interested by keeping mum on the plot...
I really want to know more about this movie's storyline. T_T It'd be great if we got a new trailer this Monday or something, but that's only wishful thinking on my part. I wonder if they'll make us wait until March before new plot info appears; I hope it's sooner than that.

The lack of plot details reminds me a lot of The Simpsons Movie, and how they were very vague on plot points in the build-up to its release.

Not long now till it opens in theatres, so I'm sure we'll start seeing new stuff soon. It's been about a month and a half since the theatrical trailer was OFFICIALLY released so it's probably getting to the point where another will pop up soon. Not to mention the fact that the preview screenings on the 12th of March are only around a month away; perhaps Julian can try get into one of those.

While their secrecy is a little irritating (as someone who can't see the movie for a long time), I'm also taking it as a good sign if they want to keep some of the juicier plot details under wraps. I'm really looking forward to see how the God hierarchy, Pilaf & co., and the Dragon Balls are all pulled together for this movie and I don't mind if they milk the suspense just a little bit more.

Hmmm...that second part, about his connection to the Kaioshins and them being scared of him, is actually (almost certainly) supposed to describe Bilus rather than Whis. It's part of the section on the God of Destruction's powers, which is subdivided into Position/Status, Battle Power, and Biology. These three categories all seem to be talking about Bilus, and the bit in question is the "Position" category. This section explaining about the God of Destruction features a diagram of the DB god hierarchy, with Bilus and Whis added in...and Whis's name is in close proximity to the text of the Position category. So if you're not careful, it kinda does look like the text is supposed to go with Whis' name to the left, rather than the big bolded "Position" header to the right. One of the Kanzenshuu crew must have made this mistake, the rubes.

I do understand why they're being so secretive, and I do feel positive about what I've learned of the plot so far.

If I had to pick one spoiler to learn early though, it's definitely "what's up with WCF's cheerful!Vegeta tie-in figure", because that's the one point I've been curious about the longest. I want to know what the 8th mystery figure is too (just watch it be the most boring of my guesses--the oracle fish) but that Vegeta toy has been stirring the curiosity pot since November. I've seen so many theories (and come up with a handful of my own) but I still don't have any clues.

They really aren't being all that secretive. Films don't usually start getting all of their detailed spoiled until a week before they come out, usually.

A little of topic but related to the above: I just saw a page of a small doujin about GT... but instead of Goku and Pan, Vegeta is the one turned into a kid and Bura goes with them in the spaceship to look for the Black Star Dragon Balls.

It seems my unconscious mind has taken to trying to come up with explanations for the Vegeta figure. I had a dream where I was at a Game Stop and they had merchandise for Battle of Gods, including some cels (because in 2013 in my dream world, anime is still made with cels ) featuring different scenes from the movie. One included the characters standing in shallow water, and several of them were wearing the exact same outfit (Vegeta, Oolong, Kame Sennin, and I think Gohan, too). I thought to myself, "ah, that must have something to do with the body-swapping!" (in dream logic, it somehow made sense). This movie...it's even invading my sleep!

With all the KFC tie-ins, I'm wondering if the movie will feature blatant product placement, like in Code Geass where the characters were seen eating Pizza Hut on many occasions.
