Let's not forget that it's Chi-chi doing the whole jumping-into-Goku's-arms thing, which is definitely in-character for her. Even if he doesn't really "get" the romantic tones of it, I'm sure Goku still knows what a hug is, so it's not like he wouldn't know how to receive it. If their positions were reversed, and it was Goku sweeping Chi-chi into his arms and dramatically planting one full on the lips after he won a match, then I'd be worried.
@Gozar:
Yeah, I'm aware of the original Piccolo Daimao's nature. But the way Marsters has described movie-Piccolo's character and motivation leads me to believe this version ISN'T pure evil. He's rather a convenient combination of Daimao in position and role, and Jr in motivation and future.
That said, I was trying to shoot for some way for Piccolo to still have reason to conquer the world, but also end up getting sent down the path of redemption.

About the hug...I don't know. It just didn't seem like a Goku-esque hug to me. But I suppose I'll have to see it in better quality and in it's fullest when the movie actually releases.SSj Kaboom wrote:Let's not forget that it's Chi-chi doing the whole jumping-into-Goku's-arms thing, which is definitely in-character for her. As for Piccolo...That statement right there truly makes me sad. Some people may view this as an interest change and like it. But me personally it's too drastic of a change.
Look, I think as a movie that concept of Piccolo seems to work well. AS A MOVIE it's a good character trait...But it's NOT DragonBall. I don't care if this Movie is the greatest written movie ever and wins Oscars and the actors are hailed for their brilliant performances. It can be a great movie and I will attest to that. But if the characters are too far off the track from their actual selves then it fails as a DragonBall adaption.
I guess it's in the same way I view GT. As an Anime it's pretty cool...But compared to the original it fails in almost every way.

I guess by those standards every single comic book movie adaption is a failure too. Book adaptions too.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

Unfortunately no. But the point I'm trying to get across is that all I care about is that the characters be themselves. Plot line wise I don't care what they do.NeptuneKai wrote:Have you seen movie number 4?Gozar wrote:Harry Potter has a fairly faithful adaption.Chrono Trigger wrote:I guess by those standards every single comic book movie adaption is a failure too. And to add that, Spider-Man was faithful too, if you go by The Ultimate Spider-Man story.Gozar wrote:Some yes. Others no. Harry Potter has a fairly faithful adaption. Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

No, no it wasn't. Have you actually READ Ultimate Spider-Man?jjgp1112 wrote:And to add that, Spider-Man was faithful too, if you go by The Ultimate Spider-Man story.Gozar wrote:Some yes. Others no. Ron was turned into a crying whining joke.
Hermione suddenly knows a bunch of shit about the wizarding world (even the stuff that isn't in the text books) right off the bat.
Dumbledore was changed into a "I'm not takin' no shit so fuck off" type of person. etc. Maybe that just goes to show the casual audience won't really notice the semi-subtle personality changes as much as the hardcore fan.
Aro started to laugh. “Ha, ha, ha,” he chuckled.- Actual quote from Twilight

Your statement shows me that you don't even have an ounce of faith when comic books are turned into movies. Some have done "Ok" and not become instant cult classics. Think of how Batman Begins was, there are people here who don't like it, and I did like it. We all have tastes that are different and it's not wrong to like somthing or to dislike it. The blogs are interesting and as the movie goes on with shooting, we'll be seeing more of the stuff come up. The movie has made it onto the podcast, it seems.Chrono Trigger wrote:I guess by those standards every single comic book movie adaption is a failure too. Book adaptions too.

Exactly. To the average fan Goku is just a badass martial artist known for shooting the Kamehameha and being a good guy. Yeah he might appear differently to us because we've seen all the episodes and read all the chapters but this movie CLEARLY isn't being marketed to JUST us.

Just my opinion, obviously:
That video gozar did was really whiny and the video responses are creepy as hell.
Anyway:
If you are trapped in a jar for 2,000 years your skin pigmentation is going to change. Come on guys. It's already been confirmed Piccolo starts off young and green, is trapped with the Ma Fu Ba for 2,000 years, then released and notices he's old and ugly so he wishes for youth from shenron thus Piccolo J.R., the green piccolo we know, is born.
Not the end of the world guys. Calm down. Makes a lot of sense if you actually read more about the movie.

Various interviews from the cast as well as tidbits from many articles. I'll collect all the sources later if you don't believe me.Herms wrote:All of that has been confirmed? I have faith in comic book movies! I've already accepted that Dragon Ball isn't gonna be a word for word/panel for panel/animation cel for cel adaption. Lord of the Rings wasn't word for word, Harry Potter was word for word, and even The Dark Knight wasn't dead on. So for anyone to expect that DRAGON BALL would some how be an exception to this is crazy. I've accepted that this movie is only gonna be so good and I should just try to enjoy it for what it is. If it's good it's good and if it isn't I still have the manga.Bardock the Mexican said : Your statement shows me that you don't even have an ounce of faith when comic books are turned into movies.

Just some news to calm down the high school haters:
Luis Arretia CONFIRMED his scenes were finished IN ONE DAY and he WASN'T a Krillin replacement. He isn't even Goku's friend.
He also said the script was well-written, like everyone has, and he compared the changes to The Dark Knight (it wasn't 100% faithful to the comic).
