I mean seriously though would anybody be less excited if TOEI was just going back an redoing the all of Z instead of just clipping out some filler?
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

A couple of counter points to those against a brand new re-animated DBZ, especially the person who put up the "You look pretty cool, Naruto" thing.
Naruto is somewhat of a different monster than DBKai, seeing as how Naruto is still in production, and would result in some rushing in terms of quality control, as they had to produce these episodes week after week. Dragonball is a finished deal, so Toei could start pushing out newly animated episodes at their leisure if they ever felt like it.
Another thing is that Naruto is animated by Studio Pierrot, rather than Toei. I feel that Toei does a much better job with anything they get their hands on. Of course, I wouldn't really know that since the only show that I can name off the top of my head is One Piece, and End of Evangelion..I think. But comparing the three big shows (One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach), One Piece definitely kept me interested much more than the other two visually (also story-telling wise, I couldn't stand Naruto/Bleach filler), which were animated by Pierrot.
EDIT: Couple quick changes to make my post make a bit more sense.

They'd have more to potentially mess up, as far as I'm concerned.Chrono Trigger wrote:I mean seriously though would anybody be less excited if TOEI was just going back an redoing the all of Z instead of just clipping out some filler?
The special was really neat, for something that only lasted as long as it did. But a lot of what I love about Dragon Ball the anime is the look of the 80s animation.
I wouldn't want them to completely re-animate Dragon Ball, because the likelihood that it would look like every other piece of Shonen crap coming out these days(sorry One Piece and Naruto fans) would be increased.

They would never re-animate the entire series as-is. If they were to ever re-animate it, they would obviously cut out certain filler elements (especially those that create plot holes).Chrono Trigger wrote:I mean seriously though would anybody be less excited if TOEI was just going back an redoing the all of Z instead of just clipping out some filler?

Yeah that's what I meant. They reanimate the whole thing, 100 episodes, little to no filler.Yi Xing Long wrote:They would never re-animate the entire series as-is. If they were to ever re-animate it, they would obviously cut out certain filler elements (especially those that create plot holes).

Yes it is because they're already going through with it and its gonna be such a waste.

OH. ^^;
*Does so.*
Oof. That's pretty bad. >_O
Wish I knew where that headless Naruto screenshot got to; I'd post that up.
Anyway, NOW I remember yet another reason why I'm very, very thankful that its Toei that has the rights to animating Dragon Ball and not Studio Pierrot.
On hiatus.

That wasn't really my point though. Even if reanimating was cheaper, we would start to see the effects of the low budget not any later than the second episode. I'd rather see an improved version of Dragonball's best than even more cheap animation.Yi Xing Long wrote:Actually, it would possibly be cheaper to re-animate it all over again compared to restoring it properly in addition to the redone voice acting, cutting and pasting of footage, and supposed extending of the sides of frames among many other factors.Mayuri Furiza Kurotsuchi wrote:Do you know how expensive full animation is compared to what they are doing? Sure, they may have the money for it, but the finished product will be a lot worse than what it will be if they improve on existing art. I doubt we want to see 100 newly animated episodes of Dragonball with every other episode having a "hey Goku, you look kind of cool"* feel to it, instead of the best of 294 episodes made even better.

Yeah, but they would get plenty money from that “Shonen crap”, some of us would appreciate a new Dragonball Z resembling Naruto or Bleach.Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote:...I wouldn't want them to completely re-animate Dragon Ball, because the likelihood that it would look like every other piece of Shonen crap coming out these days(sorry One Piece and Naruto fans) would be increased.
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

Let's try to *not* get into other-show-arguments, here. Thanks!

Wasn't trying to. Just saying that I'm happy with the anime's distinct look, and I don't want it to look like everything else due to the over-commercialization and computer-generated aspects of modern Japanese animation.VegettoEX wrote:Let's try to *not* get into other-show-arguments, here. Thanks!

This is becoming more exciting. A new name, etc. But Wasted Wisher, have you SEEN any of the footage from any of the episodes for HD? Does it really look GOOD?
I mean how good can you make a 1989-1995/6 cel-animated cartoon shot on 16mm film anyway? How seamlessly can they really extend the backgrounds or actual animation? Are they actually editing the existing animation to look better in HD (like after a HD transfer of the film?) or just the film itself?
Also, I'm happy they're cutting out the filler but just editing the episodes together seems to make me wonder how well it will actually work. I mean, they have to work with what they already have. So, it just seems like re-animating it would make more sense? I mean they could re-animate it almost exactly like last time (like the 2008 special's intro was so close to the original). Are they kind of doing that with DBK? Are they animating over existing animation or is it not going that far?
... just doesn't seem like it could be THAT great in HD. Although I know there are people out there who are crazy about HD. (I'm not one of them)
But yeah, I mean they're going so far with the music and the voice acting being redone for HD that it makes less sense to me to just use 80s animation... it doesn't seem like it could EVER look THAT great no matter what they do.
Also, the OPs and End credits are going to be new? So will they look like the 2008 special in animation? How will that look so weird after seeing a cool new animated OP and then suddenly you're in 80s-animation-land. (or early 90s, whatever)...
I'm exciting for DBK. Truly. But I am not 100% sure it's going to be that great. It's not like I haven't seen it before. I hope they really impress me.
I'm more excited about the possibilities of what ELSE Toei might do if DBK is very successful. New series, movies, specials, etc.
