I think stamina will still be an important thing in the arc, and I do think there will be several occasions where they do push their limits, but I don't think it'll quite as absurd as say what happened in between 126(Vegeta can barely stand) and 127(full power mode).OLKv3 wrote:18 vs Ribrianne is still happening, since the manga showed the staredown. Also this little tidbit.
D'oh: the God of Destruction Quitela was another of the characters Toriyama designed first, along with Jiren/Toppo/Dyspo. I accidentally left him off the list.[/spoiler]
It's interesting how they mention Piccolo, since I am super curious if his elimination will happen in the manga like it did in 119. I might have to apologize to that episode's writer...
Or if Ribiranne vs 18 is going to happen at all.
Regarding Buu, part of me thinks he was replaced simply because it would've been too hard to work around all his magic abilities.
Also, Freeza lending Goku energy not being in the outline most likely means the stamina nonsense was Toei, we'll see if Toyo uses it too

Yeah, I kinda agree. All this buildup does deserve a payoff. But I'm ready to suspend my judgment until these episodes actually air.JazzMazz wrote:Its true that the writers don't have an obligation to make one of the main characters win everytime. It is however their job(namely Toriyama's in this case), for them to tell a compelling and satisfying story with a decent payoff for the characters involved. Goku not winning, kind of makes a lot of his struggles and tribulations feel pointless, since there is no real payoff to them. Having Goku flat lose to Jiren would kind of be like Goku losing to Freeza in the Namek arc after turning Super Saiyan, its not a satisfying way to draw a climax to your story, espicially one where the hero is constantly getting beaten down so much, that he hardly every earns a clean victory using his own merits.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Yeah that's what I'm saying. It'll be important, but we won't have the silliness of Goku being completely drained, only to "gain stamina back through fighting Caulifla" type stuffJazzMazz wrote:I think stamina will still be an important thing in the arc, and I do think there will be several occasions where they do push their limits, but I don't think it'll quite as absurd as say what happened in between 126(Vegeta can barely stand) and 127(full power mode).OLKv3 wrote:18 vs Ribrianne is still happening, since the manga showed the staredown. So it looks like Super will end on some cliffhanger afterall. I'm not surprised Kale was Toei's idea so this should be enough to show that Toriyama isn't the only writer here and it's more of a team effort.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

I don't think that example was particularly horrible, since the entire fight of the fight was to show the escalation of the fight by having both him and the Saiyan girls pushing their limits in order to overpower the other. The structure of the fight had a pretty clear structure to it, and it was probably the best example of Goku "gaining stamina back" done right.OLKv3 wrote:Yeah that's what I'm saying. I have more of a problem with say that latter Vegeta example, because thats just them not even attempting to maintain continuity between episodes.
Really, I thought the Saiyan girls, or at least Kale was a very obvious Toei inclusion, since they had just recognized Broly's popularity before revealing her.Hawk9211 wrote:I was preparing myself for a disappointing ending and freeze. Now,I don't know if I should be happy or sad.I was sceptical about Saiyan girls, but I was sure that ribrianne joke was from toei.OLKv3 wrote:I knew Kale came from Toei

I have the feeling that Frieza is going to get SUPER trolled. Like, he will wish to become a GoD or even to take Zeno's place as the Omni-King but he will be sent back to Hell on the technicality that he is actually still dead.
Alternatively, I can totally see Frieza making a super generic "revive everyone" wish which would not only revive him (and 17, and the rest of the Universes) but also revive his ENTIRE army. I mean, who wouldn't love to see a future comeback of the entire Ginyu Force?

Well, most of toriyama gag characters are like bacterian, wolfman. They are just self explanotary gags that are dealt in one of two confrontations. Not a complete stereotype of a certain genre.Plus, toei has a lot of history with magical girls.JazzMazz wrote: Really, I thought the Saiyan girls, or at least Kale was a very obvious Toei inclusion, since they had just recognized Broly's popularity before revealing her.

Yeah, the Toei staff and writers that work on Super usually have some form of background in shows like Precure.Hawk9211 wrote:JazzMazz wrote:Why was the preview summary for that bullshit?Lord Beerus wrote: Piccolo slipping off the stage in Episode 119.

I don't know how they write the summaries, but they are never out and out wrong, just very vague to the point of easily being misinterpreted at times. For example they keep saying Jiren uses his full power, which is not correct since he's just now going all out but they are not wrong because he's being forced to use more and more of it.
Edit:

So Toriyama aka the untouchable god:
80 fighters.
>Only initially desgins a few and the arena.
Jiren is the main antagonist.
>Tell's Toei he doesn't speak and gives that backstory.
Designs Dyspo.

Toei come up with Kale.

Massive tournament.

Dragon Ball Super 5 arcs.

>2 of the 3 new material arcs are tournaments... With the Trunks arc happening due to some sort of suggestion from Toei.

BoG was all conepted by Toei.

Gets to write new movie in 2015.
>Resurrection "F"...
I'm sensing a pattern here... Toriyama needs an editor or should leave the franchise but instead gets free reign on a new movie...

Question: how long is Freeza's "day pass" from Hell? Is it 24 hours like Goku's trip to Earth during the Buu saga? Because... he could be juuuust about to make his wish, and... poof, back to Hell.Raphael_Z wrote:I have the feeling that Frieza is going to get SUPER trolled. An unsatisfying end for Zeno, who gives the wish to the runner-up instead?
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Well, I still think Beerus is one of the best things to happen to modern DB, and the character is his, right? Not the concept of a GoD, but the actual character.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:So Toriyama aka the untouchable god:

But on paper, these ideas are not bad there is nothing wrong with a silent antagonist.
I think the issue comes from the fact that toriyama is not an author,he is an artist who is a gag artist at it's core.Dragon ball does not have revolutionary plots but they are unique due to humor, choreoqraphy, designs etc basically execution.
Now,toriyama is only doing the outline which would have a quite different execution if he was doing that himself.Basically, what I am saying is nobody can be like toriyama, they can be better but not toriyama. He is also quite lazy and needs to be pushed or given a directiin like in bog.Compare that to latter film.
Someone commented on reddit Most authors are not good story tellers what they are extremely creative people.
Coincidence or not?Look at the rug.

I wonder what he he ends Super with, to be speculated that he “MAY” have firther plans with? Maybe goku loosing to jiren isn’t bad if the story will continue further down the line.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
It was Hit's decision, but Goku's previous actions did influence it, otherwise he wouldn't have jumped off the stage. Which is why I said that Goku did have a part in Hit's decision. That and Goku made Hit warm up to the point that he thought the only honorable thing to do was jumped.Lord Frieza wrote:
What’s the difference? that’s his own choice, Hit didn’t have to throw the fight. He was not bound to any true law that stated he must and he was not actually weak enough to actually be ring out. Much like Gohan he could have won if he really wanted to but He through himself out due to his connection to Goku plus his own issues with Beerus and Champa. Goku did not beat him himself.
Arguing cirmantics dose not change the fact that Goku has only ever really won 1 tournament is a strait fight, with is other two being team match’s that were won both times due to his opponents better nature and in only one of those was Goku the last man standing.
Edit:
Goku being in a tournament is almost a guarantee he’s not going to win. Almost as much as it was that Yamaha would never make it past the quarter-finals.
