Dragon Radar: your ultimate source for all the Dragon Balls!
I like that name. Easy enough for a casual fan to pick up on too.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
On the whole idea, I pull my full support to this. A while back I tried to do something like this on my site with a few people on this board, but no one ever really did anything so its just sort of gone. xD
But if its an effort by the Daizenshuu EX and Kanzentai teams and forumers, this could absolutely work out I think. I also like that we're setting ground rules like this, I know naming scheme was an issue when I tried this before.
As for names, I liked B's idea of "We Gotta Pedia" but EX already said nothing past that point hit his fancy.
The only thing I can think of that hasn't been said would be to dispense the "wiki" and "pedia" suffixes and go with something a little more open sounding, since as Mike pointed out, when it comes to wiki, nothing really tops the original. Something like "The Dragon Ball Compendium" or related phrases.

You know, call me crazy, but "Daizenshuu EX" seems like... well, the perfect name. After all, consider that the Daizenshuus were massive catalogs of Dragon Ball-related information, much like a factually based Dragon Ball-related wiki would attempt to be. At the very least, the idea of an one-stop, ultimate, to-go place for Dragon Ball-related information should be implied in the name somehow.
The Dragon Ball Perfect Files, maybe? Dragon Ball Perfect Guide? The Super-Amazing Guide to Dragon Ball? =P

dragonradar.com is taken, but dragonradar.org is available, as well as variants with "the" in front of them.
Thoughts?
Throw a couple more ideas out there and I'll start a poll.

I just ask for one thing, and believe me when I say this, I will beg if needed. The Wiki has to have some way to tell the difference between canon and non-canon (movie, video games, fillers) material, because this is probably the DBWikia's biggest problem.
Although there would probably need to reach some consensus on the Bardock special and the Jump Special, because of their "special circumstances"

Since we don't have to rely on Wikipedia's own stances on what constitutes canonical information, in-universe writing, which sections do and don't belong... we can do whatever the fuck we want.Rod wrote:I just ask for one thing, and believe me when I say this, I will beg if needed. I don't see the problem with with just having a "Non-Canonical" or "Additional Sources Information" section on articles that need it.

I think we should simply say just where everything comes from, and let people decide for themselves what they consider canonical.

About the name "The Dragon Radar" again the question comes up, with me anyways, about how easy that is to find.
So basically what I'm asking is this: who is this potential encyclopedia going to be aimed at? Is this going to be something that is going to be like a primary reference source for visitors of DaizenshuuEX.com and the forum here... or is this going to try to be something more and become sort of like the #1 Dragonball encyclopedia on the web? If it's the latter of the two then the name could hinder it from becoming a big success because it might be harder to find than something simpler like "DragonballWiki" (just an example).
So that was just something that I was thinking of, it really doesn't matter to me personally because I'll know where to find it from you guys, but I was just thinking about people who have no knowledge of this site or forum and are interested in finding a well made Dragonball encyclopedia.
-edit-
Not sure if this was clear, but I actually do like that name for the site, and by all means you've come up with a far better name than I ever could.

I know, that was just the first example of an easy to find site name that I could think of. That why I put it was just an example in parenthesis afterwards too.Rod wrote:I don't know about everyone else, but that's what I had in mind. As for the Dragon Ball Wiki, it's already taken, otherwise it would be the most obvious choice

If I were to look for wiki not part of the actual wikipedia, I don't want to have to look for something "new." There's a reason Meri said what she did; wiki is normally just easier. If it's going to be made by daizex, I want the top 5 google entries of a "daizex" search to lead me to the daizex wikia.
Maybe daizex.wiki.whatever, and the wiki itself simply be "The Daizenshuu EX Wiki"?
EDIT: Or to carry with the Street Fighter pun, "Daizenshuu EX+W"

That's pretty much what I was trying to say, what's the point of making this awesome encyclopedia if nobody is ever going to use it?Dayspring wrote: If I were to look for wiki not part of the actual wikipedia, I don't want to have to look for something "new." For the forum members. All the time people are asking questions about the series on the forums or in the chat because there's no way to know the answer outside of getting out your manga or DVDs and finding the part you have a question about. Having a wiki would fix this.SSJ2bardock wrote:That's pretty much what I was trying to say, what's the point of making this awesome encyclopedia if nobody is ever going to use it?Dayspring wrote: If I were to look for wiki not part of the actual wikipedia, I don't want to have to look for something "new." Well I'm still waiting for an answer back on my "Who this is for" post, so you could be right.Taku128 wrote:For the forum members.
