Re: Who is the most annoying character?
I guess if I had a top three it would be:
1) Kid Gohan during the Saiyan Saga and a bit beyond.
2) Mr. Buu - He is just really silly and though he's depicted as "Good" (more or less) we see him get angry about food and stuff about to rampage on people like a wild dog when he doesn't get his way. I wouldnt keep the dude around.
3) Whis when he's in his food gag. You're one of the strongest beings in all of creation (that we know of) and you act like you've NEVER had good food in your life even though you've existed for a long long time. Beerus is somehow better about it...I think it might be how high Whis voice gets during that time for me.

Well to be fair I don't dislike any of the characters listed, I just find their personalities a little grating at times. I just feel like his temper contradicts his supposed change for good and it bothers me. I mean everyone gets mad but what if Beerus had been a normal dude? It would have been murder.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:I liked Fat Boo. But that also might be a symptom of my overactive cuteness receptors.GodKaio-Ken wrote:I guess if I had a top three it would be:

I think you're mistaken, he isn't necessarily "good", more like a child. He has no moral compass and he's prone to temper tantrums.GodKaio-Ken wrote:Well to be fair I don't dislike any of the characters listed, I just find their personalities a little grating at times. Well this is from his Dragonball Wiki entry. Due to Innocent Buu splitting into Good Buu and Evil Buu, Good Buu became a "different life-form"[11] from the original Kid Buu and Innocent Buu forms, and lost many of the unique capabilities of the original Majin.
He became an entity of pure good, due to Innocent Buu's evil manifesting as Evil Buu, he lost the ability to absorb using his body and needed to turn others into chocolate in order to accomplish an "absorption", he also lost his eternal life and became capable of dying of old age,[8] and he no longer needed to hibernate for incredibly long periods of time - instead entering an unwaking sleep for a brief period of time. He also lost a great majority of the power he once held to Evil Buu.

To be honest I've never even been on the wiki before now. Its highly implied that Mr. Buu is good (as I said more or less) throughout the series. If he wasn't good I doubt Goku would allow him to exist after his fight with Kid Buu.

Do you remember why he decided to stop killing? It was because his friend, Mr. Satan, told him it was bad. He stopped, most likely, because he didn't want to dissapoint his one and only friend.GodKaio-Ken wrote:To be honest I've never even been on the wiki before now. That's all he goes on about.ABED wrote:They all go on and on about something.
With the Z-Warriors knowing of Babidi's plan there's no point in staying there for Spopovich and Yamu. What are they gonna do? Beg for the energy?Huh?
It took all the way from Gohan going SSJ2 to his ass-beating from Majin Boo for Kaioshin to realize he was out of his league and it's not like the Saiyans were subtle about it either... they babbled on repeatedly about surpassing the SSJ wall. If it's not being stupid then I dunno what is.He's not stupid about their power, he just simply doesn't know about it. He's the Kaioshin of an entire galaxy! And he didn't tell anyone because Toriyama didn't know. There's no regardless in this situation. Why do you blame the character for what is clearly a lack of foresight on the part of the author? And you aren't under any compulsion beyond your own to justify anything to anyone. I like to know, but you don't have to respond. I'm not trying to force anything out of you. This is what I thought was a good natured discussion.
I don't give a fuck if he ran the whole universe... he should be paying extra attention to the planet where he left the most dangerous being the entire galaxy has ever known sealed given he knew about the humans evolving and was afraid of the slightest shock reviving Majin Boo (an earthquake can do just that).
He's still written as knowing this stuff but doesn't make use of the knowledge and it's not like it's out of character for him to not be helpful when it counts. Elder Kaioshin even calls him out for the dumbass he truly is.

And Vegeta goes ON AND ON about both his Saiyan pride, being the prince of all Saiyans, and how he'll surpass Goku. Not just that but he doesn't care to bring Raditz back to life, murders Nappa, and tries to kill Goku. Clearly in spite of what he says, he doesn't care about the Saiyans. See, contradiction and going on and on. Cell goes on and on about perfection. That's all he goes on about.
There are other options besides going straight back to the ship. If they know the Z Team knows their plan, why would they take them back to the ship? With the Z-Warriors knowing of Babidi's plan there's no point in staying there for Spopovich and Yamu. What are they gonna do? Beg for the energy?
Then you don't know what is because I don't see how that's stupid of him. For them, no as they only wanted energy of someone really strong and I doubt the Z-Warriors would just let them do their thing. They can force them to retreat empty handed then follow them plus those two are weak as hell. There are other options besides going straight back to the ship. If they know the Z Team knows their plan, why would they take them back to the ship?
It should've been obviously right from Gohan going SSJ2 (before his energy was stolen) that they were far powerful than he can imagine especially with Vegeta denouncing his powers the way he did and the fact he apparently knew so much about Goku at first.... yet MaJin Boo kicking his ass is when he finally realizes the obvious. Then you don't know what is because I don't see how that's stupid of him. Kaioshin was afraid of the slightest shock awakening him (like carrying it about) and a earthquake is likely to cause that. Also humans are likely to tamper with it like they do with other things they don't understand.Do we know that an earthquake could revive Buu? And humans evolving isn't much of a threat.
He calls him out on foolishly thinking he can beat Bootenks when fused with Kibito (who is way weaker than him) and not knowing about potara. He isn't written knowing this stuff because Toriyama doesn't know this stuff. That's really all you've said. What separates him from the other characters who do the same exact thing? The point is Bebi is a flat character. How many times do I have to say it?
It still makes no sense that they would go back to the ship. Why would they let the Z team follow if they knew they were being followed? The Z team needed a plan to figure out where Babidi was. This is a trope. Kaioshin knew more about Goku likely because Goku was already in the afterlife, and it's not obvious that the Saiyans were as strong as they claimed. Vegeta constantly boasts and is overconfident in his own power. Kaioshin can read minds. The only way one can know exactly what they are dealing with is experiencing it, so no, it was far from obvious.

Re: Who is the most annoying character?
I have no reason to explain this to you. He has no character behind it thus he's dull and annoying.ABED wrote:That's really all you've said. What separates him from the other characters who do the same exact thing?
It makes plenty of sense. They're not very powerful and they haven't shown themselves as terribly smart or good fighters (Spopovich certainly wasn't) so faced with an infinitely stronger party they would have no choice but to retreat. In other media, this kind of planning occurs because the team is too weak to take the enemies head on or to bust the opposing force as a whole. Kaioshin had no plan... he tried to stop the others from swooping down to stop Babidi even though they had him outnumbered or going inside his spaceship for some reason and his only "planning" in the spaceship was to be a coward and gain up on scrubs like Pui-Pui.It still makes no sense that they would go back to the ship. Why would they let the Z team follow if they knew they were being followed? The Z team needed a plan to figure out where Babidi was. This is a trope. Let the small timers accomplish a small goal in order to find the big man in charge.
Besides, he can read minds so it's not like he has to face them either
Also it was not a small goal. It ended up fueling almost half the energy needed to revive Majin Boo.
Kaioshin shook Goku's hand to confirm he was pure and knew about his day off so he likely knows a lot more about Goku than just a few whispers. Gohan turned SSJ2 right in front of his face for him to sense and that he did but he literally forgets all about it in just 2 hours. If he was smart he would've thought to himself that the Saiyans may be far stronger than he thought and reconsider his way of handling things but it took shit hitting the fan for him to realize this.Kaioshin knew more about Goku likely because Goku was already in the afterlife, and it's not obvious that the Saiyans were as strong as they claimed. Vegeta constantly boasts and is overconfident in his own power. Kaioshin can read minds. The only way one can know exactly what they are dealing with is experiencing it, so no, it was far from obvious.
BTW Why are you so defensive of him and why do you care so much if I find certain characters annoying?

Re: Who is the most annoying character?
He does. He was once the king whose society was destroyed by a barbaric race and now he wants to get revenge but doesn't see the contradiction in him doing to everyone else was what was done to his people. That is a character.I have no reason to explain this to you. He has no character behind it thus he's dull and annoying.
"He Has no goal." Kaioshin had a plan, but it's screwed up by Vegeta. He didn't try to stop them from just swooping down. He wanted to stop them from going headfirst into a battle with an unknown enemy. And it would have all gone to plan had Vegeta not been a giant jackass and put his pithy little grudge ahead of stopping Buu's resurrection.
Please stop saying "they have no..." when it's clear as day that they do.
This is a discussion forum. I thought the entire point was to discuss and he is no way more annoying than Chichi. His plan to find where Babidi is gets wrecked by an insecure mook, but he's the annoying one? Why do you have such a problem that I disagree with you on this issue and wish to discuss it? The biggest problem wasn't that Kaioshin didn't take into account people's powers, it's he didn't take into account the degree of Vegeta's insecurity. If Vegeta hadn't gone along, that ONE single thing could've prevented it all. He never would've gotten the idea to turn into Majin Vegeta, but sure, let's blame Kaioshin for not being infallible. This is a great example of what I was saying before somewhere else, if a good guy does anything wrong or are less than perfect, they are judged far more harshly than they should be. Conversely, if the bad guy does something even remotely good, they get more credit than they deserve. I see both Goku and Kaioshin get far more blame for Buu's resurrection than either Babidi or Vegeta!
And go without achieving their goal and just ensure Babidi would kill them? What indication is there that they're dumb?In other media, this kind of planning occurs because the team is too weak to take the enemies head on or to bust the opposing force as a whole.

Re: Who is the most annoying character?
How do you figure that it's only good if it's explicitly addressed? It's not that it's glossed over, it's just not on the nose. The audience can get hypocrisy and that it's wrong, they don't need the characters in the show to point it out and discuss it.Doctor. wrote:It is if it's addressed. Re: Who is the most annoying character?
Because if it's not addressed in some way, then what the audience will assume is that it wasn't intentional and that the author simply fucked up and couldn't think of something better. It was a mistake, an error in the writing, not an explicit character flaw written on purpose to give depth to the character.ABED wrote:How do you figure that it's only good if it's explicitly addressed?Doctor. wrote:It is if it's addressed. Re: Who is the most annoying character?
Or the author could just be treating the audience with respect and didn't feel the need to clumsily say "Hey, look, he's a hypocrite!" It's not bad writing unless the author intended the character to be principled. And how do you know what the audience will assume? Who is "the audience", some group that all thinks the same?

Re: Who is the most annoying character?
Hardly.... what you mentioned does sound great on place but doesn't work in practice. His character has zero conflict and his personality is a watered-down version of Cell's.ABED wrote: He does. He was once the king whose society was destroyed by a barbaric race and now he wants to get revenge but doesn't see the contradiction in him doing to everyone else was what was done to his people. That is a character.
I honestly think Bebi would've worked better as a Tragic Villain... one who thinks he's bringing justice to his people by taking back from the people who did him wrong but has to come in terms with the fact he's acting no different. Sadly GT went for the typical power-hungry monster rout it usually goes for.
That's not the reason why Kaioshin stopped them. He wanted to wait for Babidi to drag the egg out into the open so he can insert the energy drainer thing into it (which he doesn't) and he was absolutely against the Saiyans going inside the spaceship to save Krillin and Piccolo for no reason yet still followed them."He Has no goal." Kaioshin had a plan, but it's screwed up by Vegeta.
It's a discussion forum... not a "force people to think your way" forum. There's really no point in arguing against me finding certain characters annoying unless I went into the specifics.
All of them were stupid in the Spaceship. Goku for making light of things till shit hits the fan, Gohan not speaking up against Goku or Vegeta playing by Babidi's games, Vegeta for being so hell-bent on his rematch he sold his soul to Babidi, and Kaioshin for not doing his research and making matters at every step (which he even admits to).
His "plan" failed because he simply failed at his job as overseer. He never did any proper research on the planet he left Majin Boo's egg on as well as underestimating his allies and overestimated his enemies to a ridiculous degree. He had zero faith in the heroes making harder than they need to be.
Yes, and what indication did they give that they were smart enough to plot up an intricate plan of stealing energy that can get past the Z-Warriors? Spopovich showed himself quite dumb in his fight with Videl where he kept rushing at her like a mindless brute and got his ass handed to him.And go without achieving their goal and just ensure Babidi would kill them? What indication is there that they're dumb?
Either way, deliberately letting them steal energy was dumb and really counter-productive.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

Contradiction doesn't mean you need inner conflict. Some people simply evade it. Baby is nothing like Cell. Cell wanted destruction and death. Baby wanted to conquer.Hardly.... what you mentioned does sound great on place but doesn't work in practice. His character has zero conflict and his personality is a watered-down version of Cell's.
It's like you've don't watch many TV shows or movies. Kaioshin's plan is a trope in cop shows and thrillers where the good guys let the bad guys achieve a little goal in order to achieve a larger goal. Vegeta is the root of the problem. Had he not been there, there is a far greater likelihood that Kaioshin's plan would've worked.
That's not force. Perhaps I come on a little strong, but that wasn't force. It's a discussion forum... not a "force people to think your way" forum.
Chichi contributes NOTHING to the story beyond being a mother and a spouse, so she's way more annoying.
