Going to be a drag having to sit through that again, even with the fixed art.

Champa is the one I am most curious about, his whiny tone in the Japanese version suits him quite wellBaggie_Saiyan wrote:Won't have to wait long for Champa and Vados! Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
I have a feeling Funimation is going to go with a tone similar to Jason Douglas' Beerus, but a little bit more goofy and high-pitched. Basically, the difference between Chris Ayres' Frieza and Greg Ayres' Frost. Interestingly enough, Beerus and Champa/Frieza and Frost are counterpart characters due to one of each coming from either U6 or U7.Ki Breaker wrote:Champa is the one I am most curious about, his whiny tone in the Japanese version suits him quite wellBaggie_Saiyan wrote:Won't have to wait long for Champa and Vados! I can see Funimation doing it in two ways, a voice that sounds like the japanese voice, or a deeper voice like another dub is doing (the one from Portugal to be more precise) which actually fits quite well.Ki Breaker wrote:Champa is the one I am most curious about, his whiny tone in the Japanese version suits him quite wellBaggie_Saiyan wrote:Won't have to wait long for Champa and Vados! This was most likely brought up in other places, but who the hell animated this episode? At least half the shots have linework that's too thick, leading to inconsistent animation for the episode where the lines are thin like the series has been up to & after this episode.
Then there's the fact that Goku's mouth didn't move when he called out "Kamehameha."

Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

I'm pretty sure that happened in Resurrection 'F' too. I think it's an old pronunciation that appeared in the 1995 dub with the Canadian cast and was corrected for the in house dub of Dragon Ball? No idea why it would be making a comeback though.mint0h wrote:I swear, I heard Pilaf call Shu 'Shou' or 'Show' in this episode.

Is it just me, or did Goten sound a little off to me. No offense to Kara Edwards, but her Goten is sounding to forced. Her voice sound perfect in Kai though.

The Goten and Trunks scenes were adorable lol
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
I've been saying that for the last several weeks. It's mostly been her fluctuating between her normal Goten voice tone & a higher pitched tone for some reason. This episode, she constantly sounded like she was in between the 2, but more on the scale of her normal Goten tone because it was deeper than the higher pitch. I really do hope she settles on the tone by the next episode Goten's in because it's inconsistent & weird. It makes the dub for them seem rushed for some of the cast because she probably hasn't done the voice for a few years since she recorded for Kai, most likely, around the time that they recorded Battle of Gods, yet she sounded perfectly fine in that movie's dub, just softer-spoken than she did it for the Z dub. Tipton's slipping quite nicely into being a voice double for Bailey. She's like Maxey Whitehead voicing Alphonse Elric doing an Arron Dismuke impression for Brotherhood. It took her a few episodes to get the tone down, but she got it. Everyone else was on point though, as always.simtek34 wrote:Is it just me, or did Goten sound a little off to me. Already hating Goten's voice. He already sounded perfect before, now it just seems forced, hopefully it gets netter soon.
Also, was really hoping the dub would at least add Pilaf mentioning them being turned into kids. I guess we'll never know then.

I'm honestly enjoying Super so much more in the dub. I love it

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
The in-house dub seems to waver back and forth between "Shuu" and "Shao". When the redub of the original series first premiered on Toonami(US) in 2001, Pilaf referred to him as "Shao". This line of dialog was changed to "Shuu" on the home video release to be consistant with the later episodes.SaiyamanMS wrote:I'm pretty sure that happened in Resurrection 'F' too. Both names are correct, as they are a pun on the same food. Shaomai is Chinese and Shuumai is Japanese.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
Ah, okay. I was wondering why FUNi had reverted back to using Shou instead of Shuu. If the pun is the same either way, I guess they're being consistent in how they seem to favor the Chinese pronunciations for many names in Dragon Ball. Tienshinan over Tenshinhan, Yamma over Enma, etc.DrBriefsCat wrote:The in-house dub seems to waver back and forth between "Shuu" and "Shao". Even if it is the blue-ray version, the art still looks horrible. Good thing this was the worst of them all, and it will get better after this. However, these dub filler episodes are much more enjoyable than the Japanese version. Maybe it's because I can hear it in my own language that makes it seem less daunting to watch.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
Wasn't sure if it was mentioned but Sabat said higher ups wanted Morgan as narrator when someone asked him why not Kyle. With the revelation that Toei are working closely with FUNi I assume this was them as I am sure Sabat is high as you can get? Why for the life of them they didn't demand Morgan be King Kai aswell I'll never know!
Also could this be why a few performances like Goten are a little different?
