That's the impression I get anyway, yeah. They seemed to constantly express how they were surprised by how much fun they were having with Sagas, since they all remembered it to be a bad game. And it still was, but get a group of like-minded friends around, and even something 'bad' can be a lot of fun. Hell, it can often times be more fun than something good.

That and I think Lani especially really wanted Xenoverse 2 to improve even more on what the first game did than it did. Hopefully not putting words in his mouth, but that's what I took away from his various commentary on the game in the videos.

Which also ties into another reason why they seemed to enjoy Sagas more than Xenoverse 2; Sagas seemed to have more effort put into it. I mean, yeah, it was bad; but there were all sorts of little things in there that showed that the game designers weren't just sleep walking through the whole thing. We had the brand new animation, the really inventive loading screens, the constant voice-overs, the destructable backgrounds, the new enemy designs, different models for the same character, a Z-store where you could purchase upgrades, teleport animations, those nifty title cards...all sorts of things that they didn't have to include had they JUST been trying to get it done as quickly as possible. They clearly put effort into the game, even if it did go into all the wrong places.

Xenoverse 2, on the other hand, seems to have no ambition behind it. It's content to do the same blasted thing as Xenoverse 1, coasting off it's success without doing anything to improve on itself. It's like comparing an excited 6 year old's art project to a lazy 21 year old's; the latter's project will likely look better on a technical level, but you may end up thinking more fondly of the former.

Most of XV2's issues and lack of new content probably stem from the scope of the project not matching the amount of time and money Dimps had to work. With the XV series, Bamco has been trying to aim for much broader titles to be made. They must contain fancy online hub worlds, create-a-character features, a story mode with lots of fully animated cutscenes and so on, all on top of the standard large rosters and combat system. It's basically a bunch of dream ideas that sound cool on paper but need a lot more resources to be pulled off exceptionally well. They don't have the appropriate budget for such projects, so things get very limiting and there's only so much that can be done in whatever amount of time they're given. Xenoverse 3 really needs a significantly longer production if it's going to have any chance of a major improvement.
