Oooh, the consistancy freak inside me is SO G-darn ticked right now.

Anime Corner Updates - March 20th, 2009
"Funimation informed us that the upcoming May re-release of the DBZ Movies 12 & 13 (which I don't think we've build on the site yet for pre-order) will have regular packaging and will NOT be a Steel Case box like the previous releases. They cited a 'supplier issue', but the reality is that the DBZ movie reissues are not selling well except in mass market and those customers probably don't care too much about how the movies are packaged, so Funi is going to save the money."
Looks like not even
DragonBall is economy-proof. This'll suck if it's true. I mean, c'mon, there was one release left. It's not a huge deal; the movies are what matter. It's just that, if you start something, finish it, y'know? So much for the "DragonBall = instant huge sales" idea.
CORRECTION: An official FUNi Rep has proved this to be false. The release will be a steelbook.

An inconsistent DBZ-related Funimation release? The wonders never cease...

GodOfChaos on the chatroom says otherwise... and I'd rather take his word on it.

This stinks.
I mean, I own Movies 12 and 13 in single cases when Funi first put 'um out; but still, I feel bad about this. I mean, its not the UUE's all over again, but still...

On hiatus.

IF this ends up true (and that's a big 'if,' as this doesn't sound plausible), then it's disappointing. I really like the look and feel of the steelbooks. But the movies themselves are more important than the packaging; if they get the same remastering and general treatment as the other movies thus far, then it's all the same to me.

Not that it's beyond Funimation to do something like this, but it would make no sense for them to do this. Why stop when there is only one left to release? I could understand if they stopped after 2 or 3, but not this far in, with the Broly steel book coming out in less than 2 weeks.

I'm trusting GodOfChaos out of wishful thinking

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Ah, such is FUNimation. I don't think there is anything they could do anymore that wouldn't surprise me. And this is coming from someone who buys there stuff.

Who the fuck is in charge of DBZ at this dickass company?
They do not PULL shit like this with their other releases. I just got my Desert Punk box set tin the other day, and it's beautiful.

By "standard issuing," I would assume similar to their other DVDs where it's two thin-pack releases in one box?
That might not be so bad if they use the original movie posters as the covers, and not just slap around cut outs of characters from the movies, or worse...vector them.

I got this same information in the Anime Corner Store newsletter. Not to discredit GoC - because the man knows what he's talking about, but Robert (of Roberts Anime Corner Store) is generally pretty well plugged into THIS sort of information. I've yet to see his calls in the RACS newsletter be wrong. So while, again, I don't mean to discredit GoC - this is more then just some random dude on the internet making stuff up.

You know, if This ends up happening, I might make Cases for the entire thing... make myself a nice Boxed set... hmm... use the Original Japanese DVD covers, or even the Covers of the DBox The Movies Singles, just make them English... hmmm... the possibilities...
Come to think of it, does anyone have the DBox The Movies Singles? Would anyone mind supplying scans?

And I bet the price won't drop with the cost-saving packaging. In all rights if they save money on the production side of things, The consumer should get the product at a cheaper price... *Scoffs* I bet.

Pretty much exactly the same, I picked up the first three for $17 each not too long ago.

Also gotta admit, I'm not a fan of the whole stacking one disc almost completely over another. It's a pain in the ass to remove and makes me worried I'm gonna scratch the disc on top by trying to put it away or taking it out of the case.

Yeah same here, I actually had to make a "How to remove a Double Feature disc tutorial" for someone on Youtube.
