H-Dawg/Satan Debacle in GT Green Bricks.

Post by B » Sat Mar 21, 2009 6:39 pm

Anyone who owns either season set wanna shout out how big of a deal this is? Is Satan used the most? Is H-Dawg? Is it (hopefully NOT)an even shift? Is "H-Dawg" just used in about one or two episodes?

It looks like that was in the "Lost Episodes" so, yeah about 2 episodes the H-word is used.

Didn't the Orange Bricks call him Hercule Satan quite a bit? What did they use as the norm?

They use Mr. Satan most of the time in the Orange Bricks, though H. Satan is used by his fans, and by the announcer guy, usually when talking to his fans, as if H. Satan is his stage name or something. They usually only call him simply H-Dog in filler scenes, by characters that it seems they didn't want to revoice, like the pupils in the Cell Games. All the main characters (Goku, Yamcha, Krillin, etc) always call him Mr. Satan.

You hear H-Dog the least, H. Satan a bit more, and Mr. Satan the most. H. Dog is only said very few times throughout the entire span of the show.

Yeah, it seems like they tried to retcon his name as "Hercule Satan" for the sole purpose of giving credence to both names; this way, they wouldn't have to re-record the voice acting roles of certain characters at their leisure, and both names would end up making sense. It was pretty clever, actually.

Anyway, even as I watched, I was pretty surprised at how consistently they managed to change his name back to Mr. Satan on a widespread basis. The use of Hercule is pretty minimal; if that's what you're going for with the Orange bricks, then that's exactly what you'll get.

Yeah I was quite pleased with the way they did it. Mr. Satan is used in every important scene, but H. Satan is used pretty much only by filler characters and the announcer, though the announcer doesn't even use it that much.

I think they did it so that it wouldn't confuse anybody who only saw the dub and doesn't know any better. "What why are they calling him Mr. Satan now? OH because it's his LAST NAME!"

It's really not, but it works out anyway.

In so far as I know, the DVD "uncut dub" for the singles volumes ALWAYS had it Mister Satan and didn't even use the H name. If the orange Bricks are using the H name, thats pretty sad.

That's Funimation for you. Inconsistency is their specialty.

"Hercule" slipped in a few times in the uncut dub watching my Buu arc singles. It wasn't very prevalent, and usually just said once every 20 episodes by someone like Man #3, but it was there. (Movie 11's dub however... I remember them switching between Mr. Satan and Hercule a ridiculous amount of times.)

Hercule was used on ONE episode in GT Season 1, afaik, and never again (Specifically, on the episode where Baby arrives on Earth).

I remember H ercule being said a few times in GT, but then it's changed back to Mr. Satan at a certain point, on foreward the rest of the series.

As for Z, I don't even remember hearing Hercule, I just remember hearing Mr. Satan. I remember being worried they would replace Mr. Satan with Hercule, but was pleased through out season 8, I could be wrong since I haven't watched it since the week it came out.
