DB Daizenshuu [Book discussion]

I just wanted to start something up so that we can all talk about the daizenshuu books. Sorry all, I'm just really psyched because I just got the 7 Daizenshuu books and got ALL the "Shenron Times" inserts as well!

To start off the discussion, just say which of the books you own, if any. or ask questions about them.

I'll start off saying that I laughed my ass off with the merchandise section in book #7, They had this, I'm guessing it's a pen, that had Muten Roshi on top and if you pushed a button he'd do the "Puff-Puff"! XD

I want to start out by saying that I want you to scan all seven of those inserts at a readable size and send them to me.

Sure! But it might be a while... My scanner is pretty F'ed up and I'm really busy lately. When I do it, I will scan then so that you can print them out and make little makeshift ones... sound good?

No one else want to comment about the books? I have a question... what stuff does it say in the international section in book #7? I'm mainly interested in US, Spain, France and Mexico. They have the most text! ^_^

Also, are the supplental volumes worth getting?
Are they as big as the first 7? and hardcover?
What does TV Animation Part 3 contain?

I have the "Dictionary of Dragonball" which I am pretty sure, is the French version of the Daizenshuu, and here are the translations.

EDIT: Spain and France translation have been added. The translation isn't perfect!

USA: First aired in 1995 on 80 channels throughout all of the United States. Amongst all of the cities where it was popular, the series got the first youth audience in Houston.

Really? Son Goku wears pants.
Here is a picture of episode 1 of "Dragon Ball", where Son Goku is busy fishing (for the fish). In relation to the original Japanese (version), the Americans have altered the (unsure of what is written here) of the character by putting pants on him.
Caption 1: Here are the American TV Credits
Caption 2: In Japan, Son Goku was as naked as a worm. Yes, every country has its own idea of censorship.

Spain: First aired in 1990. Starting from 1992, Japanese anime became very popular, and amongst them was “Dragon Ball”, which received praises from even the press.

Caption: The ending credits of the Spanish version. The name of the author is also in Spanish?

France: First aired in 1988. In 1995, “Dragon Ball” had the best ratings and was graded no. 1 by the “Dorothée Magazine”.

First in terms of votes in the “Dorothée Magazine”!!

In 1991, the readers of this magazine voted for “Dragon Ball”. The series was seen to have been awarded a prize in the genre of anime at this time. (in other words, by winning by gaining no 1 status, it was as though they received a prize for best anime)

“Dragon Ball Z” in the cinema in 1995.

On October 31, 1995, Dragon Ball came up for the first time in the movie theatres in France. The film was a big hit as it had 215 000 entries in the first week, which for a cartoon is exceptional in France.

Uhh, I think this counts as a Daizenshuu...I have one of those books about the card game. It has a cover of Super Saiyan Son Goku in the Kamehameha stance...I think it's like the second card book.

and Pinhead, They one you have is a 'supplemental volume': "Carddass Perfect File #2". Is that one cool? Hardcover? What does it have, if anything, appart from pics of the cards?

I really, really, really, want Tv animation part 2, but I havent been able to find it anywhere. You can find Complete Illustrations almost anywhere though.

I don't know what you're talking about when you say supplement volume or whatever, but if that's the one I have...

It has a bunch of pictures of cards, I believe spanning three or four different card games/sets, and stuff in Japanese I can't read. It also came with four cards, but I don't know which set or whatever they belong to. They could just be special ones that only come with the books. Anywho, I guess it could be considered hardcover...I mean, it has that little plastic cover that goes over the actual cover. Or something. I'm really stupid.

The supplemental volumes are each about the size of a magazine. Id say the Tv Animation pt3 is your best bet. It covers from Vegetto to the end of the series. It also has a section on the 10th anniversary movie. The best part about the book is it has every one of those pictures you'ed see in an average image gallery on a fansite.

There's also a One Piece daizenshuu that has an interview with some guy, Oda and Toriyama. It was a bit more focused on Toriyama and Dragonball! It's translated in one site that I can't remember its name!

It's not a "daizenshuu" per se. The full title is One Piece Eiichiro Oda Illustrations Collection: Color Walk 1. I have both this and Color Walk 2, and they're both very nice.

Of course, the second book ends partway through Alabasta, and it'll probably be another year before Color Walk 3 is released... but I guess that just goes with the territory of a current series.

Cool, I'm on a never-ending quest for artbooks! Where can you find the One Piece Color Walk books? And are there any other Naruto artbooks aside from "Uzumaki"?

There's an anime infobook and two data/fan-books (One Piece has the same deal). No other artbooks, though; you have to remember, Naruto is several years younger than One Piece, and won't have as much of that sort of thing just yet (vol. 30 of One Piece was already out before they released Color Walk 2, so you've got a while before the next Naruto manga artbook).

And as for where to get them, Sasuga Books is your best bet. If you want the other One Piece books such as the Grand Data Files, just search around there. Same goes for Naruto. They're very likely to have it.
