Will we ever get a truly great DBZ game?

Post by mystic trunks » Sat Jun 06, 2009 7:58 pm

I mean, these games get crapped out so fast there is not really much time to do a very great job developing them. And in my opinion, Spike and Dimps have taken their interpretations as far as they can. Will we ever get a new developing company to do these games that is truly creative and can capture the power of DBZ in an engaing video game experience?

Yes. We've had them.

That's an opinion.

Don't buy them if you don't like them.

Well the only way for us the fans to get the game we want is to make a list of content. Then we could illegal make a game, copy it and send it to other fans for free.

Or get the developer or developers to work together to make the game themselves.

Imaging a game that had many elements:

Fighting game. Options to change from 2d to 3d. Characters, moves, clothing and locations.

RPG elements.

Mini games Mario Party but with DragonballZGT.

Music from all DragonballZGT English and Japanese

Ability to play all past games.

All music from past games.

Of course technology for this game has not been invented yet.

Perhaps when Atari loses its license we will get a new developer that has some fresh ideas?

Er, Atari has no part in making the games.

Well, it can, but I highly doubt we could get a good American made DB game.

I know Atari doesn't make the games but I believe they control who does.

Nah. We've have games that are good for being Dragonball games, and decent enough for non-Dragonball fans to be able to take an interest, but can you truly say we've had games so good you could show them to someone with no previous knowledge of Dragonball and they'd tell you it was a genuinely good game?

Dragonball games have never really made it outside the "you'll probably not find this terribly interesting if you're not a fan of the license" territory.

Exactly. You hit the nail on the head. I want a DBZ game so damn good that it will make non DBZ fans take notice.

That already happened. It was called, "Budokai 3."

No... no, my friend. Budokai 3 was good (perhaps the best DBZ game yet), but it was not the ultimate DBZ experience. Have we been brainwashed by these half-assed developers to believe that this as far as DBZ gaming can take us? I refuse to believe it.

I'm not kidding. Budokai 3 really did get a lot of attention and praise from sources other than DragonBall fans. It was applauded as just being a really fun fighter game, not just a DBZ game.

There must be a DBZ game that makes you feel like you are actually playing the anime. That has yet to be succesfully done.

Thanks for whoever corrected my gramma. I have my own personal spell check.Lol.

Other than a Wii-esque interaction game, the Sparking! series is probably as close to that as we'll ever get.

mystic trunks.. we gotta do it ourselves.
seriosly.. it's a shame.

there is not a company that is not interested in money more than doing it right.
mine would be a fighting rpg style more than action style.
everytime I see a new game coming soon I get this felling I should be
doing it on my own because it is never what I wished it could become.

and since we are not allowed to rip these games, I am thinking of
using properly scenes from the series. since it is not for sale I think
I won't have any trouble.

I have no idea what any of that means but I wish you luck.

Not that they matter, but X-play gave it a 4 out of 5....and if THEY say that an ANIME game is good...well, then you'd better darn well believe it.(No pun intended)

That was before the producers decided that a "we hate anime" running joke would be funny though. They did say they were sick of DBZ games when they made the review, though.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Are you sure? I dunno, I think it was going on before that.

...I see what you did there!
But yeah, if you're looking for a great game that's received pretty much universal praise, then look no further than Budokai 3.
It's a game that when you compare to the previous games, you can see the definate improvements, whether they be visually, or gameplay wise, making it a brilliant sequel, and a fantastic game in its own right.
