DBEvolution Reboot Rumor

Post by JAMM » Fri Jun 19, 2009 6:03 am

After the U.S. producers experienced a major failure with the signing of Dragon Ball: Evolution, we get information from our correspondents in Miami that Dragon Ball will be restarted and not only that, but also confirmed a forthcoming trilogy.

Such confirmation said the spokesman for 20th Century Fox, Abraham Sullivan:

"If we have another movie (Dragon Ball), we are currently discussing the resumption of the trilogy" Sullivan said our correspondent.

"The only problems we have are the scripts are not finished yet and will be reviewed by our executives, as well as walk in the search for a new director to make such delivery" said the spokesman for the Fox

Dragon Ball: Evolution was a big failure in 2009, so we are very slope of the next installment of this famous series.

Lets hope it's true.

reboot? haha. I think it would be better if they just have a very different kickass sequel, well maybe.

Wow! This is very interesting if true.

I don't think I have ever heard about talks of rebooting a film before the first installment is even out on dvd!

"Resumption" isn't the English word you mean. Your translation suggests exactly the opposite of what is meant. Try "restarting" or indeed "rebooting".

Wow, I REALLY hope this is true- though doesn't this sort of talk usually come a few years later?

Restarting? Are we gonna keep doing this, keep failing, and never see anything but Saiyans?

I hope it's true! I wonder if they'll be more loyal to the manga. Heck, they better be.

I have before. I heard rumors before Hulk hit DVD that they weren't going to do Hulk 2 and just restart it because of how badly it was bashed by critics and how awful it did at the box office. I didn't believe said rumor, but low and behold, a few years later we got The Incredible Hulk, a much much much superior movie to Hulk in every way with no ties to it.

I never knew the Hulk reboot was called that early. If a possible DB reboot will be as much better as Hulk 2008 was compared to the first one, I'll gladly wait a couple of years!

Yeah me too, and I know more then one person who'd appreciate it staying true to the manga. Although Dragonball Evoloution was terrible and considered a failure, it's kinda' broke the audience a little, I think the second movie could have potential, but then again... a whole new movie would have huge potential.

Personally, i'd prefer it if they scrapped the idea of Evolution, and started a whole new movie, I mean, it worked for ''The Hulk''.

This is very good news. I hope it's true. Despite its flaws, Evolution did really leave things open and set up for an even more kickass and potentially faithful sequel. But a reboot would still be far better and have the same, if not better, potential.

Bummer, though, a reboot will probably mean drastically different casting. I'm sure none of us would mind certain characters getting recasted (nothing personal, Mr. Chatwin and Ms. Chung), but I really did like James Marsters as Piccolo, Emmy Rossum as Bulma, and Chow Yun Fat as Roshi. Despite the bad writing, they all felt like they fit the characters very well.

If there were any hope for them to reprise their roles within a new and more faithful and well put-together script, it'd be wonderful, but alas, I doubt it'll happen. Here's hoping the hypothetical new cast can pull it off just as well.

I liked Lee's Hulk, then again, I also liked DBE, so clearly, not a very good indicator.

If they do a reboot, I bet they don't start with DragonBall.

If they could leave the silly stuff out like CGI animals all over the place and keep the cool “Goku”, I would support it but that would mean that I would have to wait longer to see Vegeta. If they would skip Dragonball altogether and go to Z I would be one happy fan. :D On my end, the biggest complaint I heard was that Vegeta was not present. I am not making this up because I am a Vegeta fan that was actually, what I heard people criticize the movie for leaving out the character.
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

They probably will jump right to Saiyans and ignore all of Dragonball.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I hope not. One of the couple things DBE got right was that it didn't ignore the earlier parts of the story. A Piccolo-centric movie was and still would be the best way to start off a series.

Unless, like Hulk, they turn it into a "requel" where we get told, "okay, you saw the first movie, but, uh, let's pretend things happened a liiiitle bit differently..."

A reboot would be nice.

What is "faithful to the manga" in everyone's mind, anyway? Faithful to the story, or faithful to the characters? Because in my mind, they can go in a completely different direction with the story if the movie itself is good and feels like Dragon Ball.

But wouldn't you rather get a fantastic DB movie which would ensure a great sequel with a masterfully protrayed Vegeta, than getting a potentially half-assed one?

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't mind if they started at Z (they can still do prequels later on), but I wouldn't mind waiting for Vegeta if that meant he'd be done that much more well...

No, I want Vegeta now, I had to sit through everyone one’s “Goku” even though they were upset that he was not the drooling idiot that we see in the manga and anime. I refuse to sit through another Dragonball, which was the most boring part of the series with the exception of the last two story arcs (Piccolo Daimaô and Ma-Jr.). I did not become a fan of Dragonball; I became a fan of Dragonball Z (GT) and Vegeta’s badassery. I think that the best option would be a sequel to DB:E or a reboot but beginning with Z.

So - just hypothetically - would you rather have a possibly so-so Vegeta NOW (in the first upcoming movie), than a potentially Fantastic one in a couple of years (in a sequel)?
