Namco Bandai publishing DBZ games in the US

Post by Sabin Deus » Thu Jul 02, 2009 5:17 pm

Looks like Namco Bandai is our exclusive DBZ game publisher for the next 5 years:

So much for Atari, eh?

The publisher for Dragon Ball games in Namco Bandai wrote:With the Dragon Ball saga spanning "11 years of manga, over 500 television episodes, [and] 23 feature films," according to the publisher, we envision a long, rich history of dude's with bad hair and hideous character designs punching each other in the sack for decades to come.
I don't do this very often, but...

Anyway, some of us on here knew this already, but not in detail.

EDIT: I just realized this, but this means no more Donny Clay.

Star Trek facepalm... copious amounts of win.

Whomever wrote that article seems to be like Donny Clay... I could totally imagine him saying that. As long as they don't blatantly lie about game features and things, and act like they have direct involvement in game-development and decision-making, then they have my backing.

Looks like they are adding up all of the DragonBall and DragonBall Z movies, but adding the TV specials along with it too. But that still doesn't add up to 23 though. Adding mistake?

There are 17 movies; 4 Dragon Ball movies and 13 DBZ movies. Then there are 3 TV Specials including the GT special. There's the Jump Anime Tour special. Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans. Then... were there 2 or 3 public service announcements? :P

Wow, that Namco Bandai quote sounds really insulting and more than a little ignorant. Why the hell would they want to badmouth a property they now plan to make money off of?

That's like saying "We think this product sucks, but you should buy it anyway." isn't it?

How rude and unprofessional of them. :?
I immediately dislike these guys and have quite a few choice words of my own that I'd like to say to them.

Woah! Namco didn't say that, people. Kotaku did. Notice the quotation marks end after "Feature Films."

What is it with these hip blogs and their tenancy to badmouth Dragon Ball? I mean, I realize that not everybody likes it, but it doesn't seem very smart to talk bad about something your readers may enjoy. I don't like Naruto but you don't see me talking trash about it every chance I get.

Kotaku has no right to insult anything. Their company is run by an army of Slowpokes.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Naruto either, but talkin trash about every time I hear it being talked is just going to piss Naruto fans off. Talking trash about an Anime you don't like is just going to start another war that isn't needed.
Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!

Fan of Dragon Ball Z and various other Anime since '98! ^^

OHH. So it was Kotaku who said that?
Well, in that case I won't ever be paying their site a visit; they sound like total asshats. :? That is not how journalism is supposed to be done.

Sorry 'bout taking it out on you, Namco Bandai. ^^; I misread the quote.

That's how video game journalism works unfortunately. It's full of biased unprofessional people who make sure their readers know when they hate the story they're reporting on.

It sounds so immature and outright...against everything actual reporting stands for. :(

While the writer of that piece has a right to his or her own opinions, you're supposed to leave your personal bias at the door when you get to work on a story. That's like, a basic rule of the profession.

Opinions only come into play if you're writing an editorial or a review.
Also, Kotaku.com writer, it's "dudes", not "dude's". No idea why there's an apostrophe in there. o_O
Not bothering to spell/grammar check their work makes them look even more ignorant.

Bleh, I'm glad I'm not overly involved with video games, I could really get to hate such websites. :(
I have a sudden, intense dislike of this Kotaku place already.

The writing isn't that great because any journalist that's any good would go for a more mainstream part of journalism. Video Game journalism is pretty much the bottom of the barrel. Most smaller sites don't even require you to have prior experience or training, just that you like video games. There are a few cool guys who write for Kotaku, but most of them are way too biased for my tastes. I only read Kotaku for the news they're reporting on, not the opinions they surround that news with. Putting up with writing like that are pretty much a necessity for keeping up with video game news.

When it comes to Dragonball? Yes.
Hell, I'm not even sure what they're trying to say here, but it's ridiculously stupid.

Maybe movies =

3 Dragonball ones
Path to power
13 Dragonball films
3 tv specials
Dragon Ball (1990 film) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Ball_(1990_film) **
Dragon Ball: The Magic Begins*
Dragonball Evolution

*while not exactly official a lot seem to think it is.
** Not official but who knows if he counted it.

That's 3 + 1 + 13 + 3 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 23

There's no way that someone who describes DBZ as "dude's with bad hair punching each other in the sack" would take such obscure movies and specials into account. It's more probable that they pulled that number from the same place Fernley Phillips did: out of their ass.
