Favorite song ever?

Post by RoarkVegeta » Sat Jul 04, 2009 11:29 pm

Tough... Mine's a lil obvious. It's I'll Give You Romance (Japanese). Mr. Dream and Makafushigi are runner-ups.

Man, I've gone over mine and why I like it so many times, I really need to just find my last post on it and just copy it here.

Anyway, it's the choral piece that is most famous for its use during Piccolo's death at the hands of Nappa; but it was first used in Dragonball episode 081, then in Dragonball Movie 2, during Piccolo's death, then a few times in the Freeza Arc (when Vegeta was killed, when Planet Vegeta was destroyed, when Kuririn was gored by Freeza, and I think one or two more times). There's a big pattern in its usages between demons (for the most part), but it's probably just coincidence. Here's a clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNqoQTi963U

A tie between the SSJ3 Goku theme, Gohan vs. Frieza, and the SSJ vegeta theme.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I found a few of my old posts further explaining why my favorite piece, is my favorite piece:
SSj_Rambo wrote:For me it would have to be the choral piece used in Dragonball Movie 2, Dragonball episode 081, DBZ episode 027 and a few episodes in the Freeza Arc.

It was included on disc 5, track 2, piece 'd' of the 5 CD set (though sadly the instrumental version has never been released). You can listen to an example of the song hereat 3:29 (pretty badass ain't it!). I can go on and on and on about every aspect of this song and how it has been used (which I habve done here before), but you can basically sum it up by saying that it is an amazing dramatic piece, and if you take the time to watch the scenes it is used in (here's one), it seems sooooo much better.
SSj_Rambo wrote:Let's see...

I guess I can narrow it down to 2 songs, one from Dragonball and one from GT (I'm sure now you know what it is).

My favorite vocal song from Dragonball has to be the untitled song that was used first in Dragonball movie 2 (when the hordes of demons first emerge), then in episode 81 and lastly in DBZ episode 27. It was included in the 5 CD Daizenshuu set (disc 5, track 3, piece 4) and that has been it's only release. This song also has a instrumental version that when used is only used in cases that do not pertain to demon related people (unlike the vocal version which I like better). It is one of the more dramatic songs in the series and it perfectly personifies the right feel whenever it is used.

You can listen to it here (the third and final time it was used): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNqoQTi963U

My other favorite vocal song in the series is Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku of course! It really brings forth a lot of happy feelings inside of me that I associate with the wonder of Dragonball. The song was performed by Field of View and was one of the first out-of-house songs to be used in the series. The montage that it was played for in episode 64 of GT is so perfectly fitting that it makes it one of the most deeply emotional moments in the entire series...for me at least.

You can listen to it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05p_x66I78A

So there you have it. My two favorite vocal songs out of the entire Dragonball anime series and movies is Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku and the un-named BGM track used in the demons emerge scene in Dragonball movie 2!
SSj_Rambo wrote:...

For me, the greatest thing about the BGM of the Freeza Saga was that much needed/wanted use of the fourth piece of the The Sleeping Princess in the Devil’s Castle BGM collection. The song was first used for that movie back in July 1987 and was an awesome part of the film. The song then was not used until the end DBZ episode 027 when Piccolo was killed by Nappa in November 1989 (listen to it here). The song was then not used until the Freeza Saga, where it was much appreciated and used often.

The thing that I found most interesting about the songs use in the Freeza Saga (and DBZ as a whole) was that when the song was first used it was used as a kind of opening theme for the demon army, but for DBZ it was pretty much used as a death theme, being played when Piccolo died and in the Freeza Saga when Kuririn was gored by Freeza, when Vegeta died, when the flashback of Freeza killing the Saiya-jin race was played and in one or two other spots as well. I know the song is kind of dark and morbid but that is pretty much what the Freeza was, so I saw it as a perfect fit.

That's pretty much what first think of when I think about the Freeza Saga, and since the song was never again used (to the best of my knowledge) it really is something special about the Freeza Saga.
And here is Kunzait_83's well thought-out responce to my above post.

It was also the subject of my first ever post on this forum (and I think my first post on any forum).

I hope that explains it. :D

Mine is probably Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku. I don't know why, but something about it just gives me chills (in a good way obviously), when I listen to it. Though the dub SSJ3 theme is a close runner up.

Cha-La-Head-Cha-La (Of course)
Ore wa Tokoton Tomaranai!! (The Budokai 3 theme)
Hikari no Sasu Mirai e! (Infinite World theme)

I don't know why, but I easily gravitate to the Video Game themes, and I like a few of the movie themes, Kiseki no Big Fight, Burning Fight, Saikyô no Fusion, and Ore ga Yaranakya Dare ga Yaru. 8)
Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!

Fan of Dragon Ball Z and various other Anime since '98! ^^

I don't know about "ever" as I'll probably get tired of them one day, but Hey You Crasher and Goodbye Mr Loneliness are two I've been listening to a lot recently.

Hmm it's so hard to pick. A few are "This Is Life", "Kinou no Yame, Ima no Hikari", and 100 Oku no Furesozu. Also love the GT themes...actually, there aren't many songs that I don't like.

'Bokutachi wa tenshi datta' is definitely my favorite song, DBZ or otherwise.

Other songs that I enjoy are 'Cha la head cha la', 'Ore wa tokoton tomarenai' from Budokai 3, and 'Koi no nazo nazo' always gives me joy.

For opening song, I'd go with We Gotta Power, with Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku being very close.

For closing song, Don't You See!

For BGM, I gotta love Battle Power Infinite of Monolith

Morgan/Smith Score: "Theme of Gohan (Gohan Angers)"

Japanese: "Unmei No Hi (Tamashii Vs. Tamashii)"

I wonder what those have in common...

It's truly the most brilliant piece in the series.

And your remake is just as good, if not better.

I'm kicking myself right now for not remembering what the song was called when Gohan goes SSJ2 for the first time...but that one.

I also really like the Yamcha theme and Tenkaichi Budokai theme too though.

(I'm awful with names of songs.)

So long as we're picking dub songs I enjoy "Groovy Discotech" a lot.
