Reasons (Vegeta Like/Dislike)
Why is Vegeta your favourite, for those who do like the prince?
And Why do some of you hate him?
And Why do some of you hate him?
Brian Drummond.
My first exposure to Dragon Ball was through the Ocean dub, back when I watched the first 13 episodes of DB back when it originally aired in America. I enjoyed it, but after no new episodes aired I forgot about it. Fast forward to '97-'98 and I began to watch Dragon Ball Z, which I assumed was the new season of Dragon Ball. I loved the show, but in particular the villain Vegeta. He was so cocky, cold, and powerful; but above all he sounded dangerous thanks to Brian Drummond's voice work.
So many villains from my favorite cartoons growing up could never be taken seriously as a threat. Megatron, Cobra Commander, Mumm-ra, Skeletor, Shredder, etc. were all either bumbling buffoons or just plain incompetent. But Vegeta was a looming threat that even the most powerful hero was afraid of. The brief glimpses that were shown of his power as he traveled to Earth were very effective at building up the hype. Hell, most of the heroes knew before hand that they would probably die in the fight against him (or be sent to the next dimension
). And when he arrived, as many of you are aware, he did not disappoint.
But a lot of what made the character a stand out for me weren't just his actions, but also Brian Drummond's voice. That sort of raspy, calm and collected voice, which could at any moment explode in sadistic rage. He played the character just marvelously, and made him one of my favorite characters.
I've grown fond of Horikawa Ryo's performance since then. But Brian Drummond will always be Vegeta to me.

At first I of course disliked Vegeta because he was the main villain. But when I started watching the Namek arc I noticed how cunning Vegeta could be when he collected the dragonballs and well I really started to like him, despite him still being evil. After that he teamed up with the good guys and he became one of my favorites, so it was a bummer for me when he was killed off.
I was so happy when he came back from the grave.
The things that happened afterwards (Trunks and such) made me like Vegeta even more.

I thought he was alright pre-Cell Saga, but when he hit USSJ, he became a total dick.
I mean, he went from being a secret agent man and stealing all of the DragonBalls from under Freeza's nose to giving Cell the power to destroy entire planets without any way to combat it.
I mean, I can understand the whole pride bit and how he could want a stronger opponent, but why let it be someone who could destroy the planet? Or even yet, someone stronger than yourself?
Critical thinking would have just told him "Hey Trunks, let's kill Cell so that I can beat the shit out of Kakarot when he gets out of the Room of Space and Time. He'll be at least as strong as myself, but knowing him, he'll do something crazy that will suprise me."
Then he indirectly causes Buu to be released, proceeds to not kill him...
But Goku is a dick for doing pretty much the same thing...

I like him... basically because he's one of the only characters in the series who gets full character development...
He goes from being an Evil Bastard, to helping Son Save the Galaxy by the end of the series.
In one of the final Episodes, he gets MAJOR Character development when he realizes he'll never beat Son.
Most of the Other characters remain pretty Static.
Son is pretty much ALWAYS the simple-minded hick who just wants to test his strength and get stronger.
Gohan gets some development in the Cell Arc, but reverts almost completely in The very next Arc. You have a study-oriented Gohan who, as Vegeta has put it "Has gotten Weaker" due to "Neglecting his Training".
Seriously, Vegeta and Piccolo are among the only characters who got really good development of character. That's Why I like Vegeta at least.

I like every character pretty much to the point where I would go on tirades about why Character B is worse than Character A. While Vegeta makes a lot of mistakes he eventually wises up and I really wish we could've seen more of his post-Number One speech self. I think from then on he'd have faired much better at keeping up with Gokuu simply because he was trying to be his best self and not better than another.
Not to mention the 'Ossu' ending is awesome.

That's what initially drew me to the character when I first started watching Dragonball Z, I started watching in the middle of the Namek saga, I had no idea at that time that Vegeta had been a villain. When toonami started playing the series from the beginning again, I was even more interested in Vegeta's character. Throughout the series he goes through more developments, relapses, and overall growth than any other character. I actually cried when he blew himself up.
His relationship with Bulma is puzzling and fascinating to me, and I'll admit I am a bit of a fangirl when it comes to this pairing. Supposedly Akira Toriyama left their get-together story open ended so the fans could figure it out on their own. It's just really interesting to consider that there is so much going on underneath what we see from this character, you are never able to see exactly how deep his feelings are, you can't even begin to imagine.
His character theme 'Ai wa baraado no you ni' or 'love is like a ballad' pretty much encapsulates this change in him. Link here
No it's totally because Ryo Horikawa has a sexy voice and Vegeta totally looks hawt in spandex. :P

Vegeta is my favorite character, up until GT and most of the Buu saga. Then I hate him.
His role in the Saiyan saga is what got me interested in his character. He just wouldn't die, I thought he was the ultimate bad-ass. Then the Namek saga just added depth onto him which made me like him even more.
What I hate is the mustache and his reasoning for turning into Majin Vegeta. "I'M SUPPOSED TO BE EVIL, LOL."

If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.
Vegeta is uninteresting because he's an archetype wh doesn't try to be more than what he is. He only becomes somewhat noteworthy in the Buu arc because repentance of past sins is always a nice little story element in fiction.
Really, I don't care about Vegeta.

I like Vegeta for a few reasons:
1. He's a despicable asshole, and everybody knows it and reacts as such. Compare to Goku, who's a complete shithead but still gets everybody in and a lot of people out of the show fawning over him.
2. I have a certain amount of sympathy for him. Vegeta trains harder than any other character, and he gets shown up by Gohan having a temper tantrum/sitting on his ass for a day, the little kids dancing, and Goku pulling bullshit transformations out of his ass.
Which is part of it. It's so damn obvious that Toriyama and Toei hate him.

I like Vegeta in the Saiyan and Frieza saga because he was a cool badass that was smart about everything, but in the Cell saga, he's just a loudmouth asshole who's responsible for most of the really bad stuff happening and repeats the same formula: do something cool, brag about it, get his ass kicked, whine about, train to prove his dick is bigger than everybody else, wash, rinse, repeat. He deserves every bad thing that happens to him and his only saving grace is the Buu saga.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I like Vegeta, but not as much as the guy he stole his whole song and dance from. Vegeta is pretty badass in the Saiyan and Freeza arcs, and he has some great development in the Boo arc. He gets a little annoying in the Cell arc, but I still like him during that arc.
Well the reasons I like Vegeta is...
Although I do sympathize for Vegeta, I believe all the shitty things that happened to him during the series is pure karma. He kinda deserved it. You don't kill billions of people/aliens without it all coming back to bite you in the ass.
Pretty much that.Rocketman wrote:1. He's a despicable asshole, and everybody knows it and reacts as such. Compare to Goku, who's a complete shithead but still gets everybody in and a lot of people out of the show fawning over him.

Vegeta is my 2nd fav after Piccolo...come to think of it early Piccolo and Vegeta were a little alike...anyways I like Vegeta because hes gangster lol...he does what he wants when he wants and really dosen't care what others think of him, hes like the little devil in us all who tells us not to give a damn. I really think its unfar the way he was portrayed him later on in DBZ but oh well he's still a major badass.

I wouldn't say I *hate* Vegeta, but I definitely see him as the biggest whiner or crybaby in all of Dragon Ball.
Case in point, IE: His achievement of Super Saiyan was done because he was throwing a fit that he couldn't turn into a Super Saiyan. "The rage he felt at his own limit" is a clever way of saying "GAH WHY CAN'T I DO WHAT KAKAROT CAN?! WAHHH!!"
Seeing that he was surpassed by Goku & Gohan made him push out that lower lip and pout, claiming "I'll never fight again."
He sees that after 7 years Goku is still stronger than him, so he turns his back on his family and friends for power so that he can finally beat him. Then when he realizes that Goku could've annihilated him at any point he wanted to, he declares he hates Goku. He pouts some more over Goku's SSJ3 that he almost undoes existence by refusing to fuse with Goku over his hate.
People are always so hard on Gohan's character because of how much Gohan whined and moaned and cried. But he was 4-5 when he did most of his crying, and 11 when he cired again. Vegeta was a grown adult when he did all of his immature bawling and at the very least, neither Gohan, Goku, or even his son, Trunks, ever threw a tissy fit like he did over a stronger opponent.
That's one of the things I liked about GT Vegeta. When Goku achieved SSJ4, Vegeta was proud of him, instead of being all whiny over it.

I like Vegeta.
Although by the time Vegeta rolled around, the frequent Dragon Ball premise of "first enemy of Goku, now friend" thing had been done to death (Yamucha, Kuririn, Piccolo)... but somehow it was done very believably.
I always loved how he was a cold-hearted bad guy, who lucked into surviving... and by the time that luck had ran out, he had a family and everything. I always love stories like that. His very gradual transformation to a genuine good guy, for some reason I felt was when Cell regenerated, and Gohan powered-up to Super Saiyajin 2 again, and when Vegeta says to him "Gohan!" and then apologizes for interfering... I dunno, I just felt like that was the nail in the coffin for bad Vegeta.
Anyways...
