Unfinished in Budokai 3?

Post by Deus ex Machina » Sat Nov 20, 2004 4:26 am

After watching the "Behind the screams" feature, I caught two audio clips that were being recorded, which I didn't hear in the game. The first being Babidi,

"That was wonderful Dabura! You're even stronger than Majin Boo!.

And the second by Nappa,

"I'm tired of taking orders from you Vegeta!!".

I think it's pretty fair to assume, that those two, and other characters were supposed to have their own Dragon Universe. Another thing I'm wondering about, is EX hearing audio clips for Chibi Goku's DU...especially because I just found out he doesn't have one. o_o' I wonder how much unfinished stuff is actually there?

Yes, when EX talked about how cool Chibi Goku's DU was I couldn't wait to play through it... but he doesn't have it...

See, EX? Now you're obligated to tell us his DU!

I was wondering the same thing, myself. Perhaps that audio comes in with someone else's Dragon Universe? He's CERTAINLY got a TON of dialogue with Bulma. Something about being sent to the future (our present) in a time machine, Bulma looks old, "I'm still in my prime!" etc etc :P.

Also, has anyone else found that sometimes dialogue just doesn't play? When it should? In the training mode, Yamcha's got that explanation of taunting... and I was listening to those exact words being spoken by Sabat's Yamcha within the audio files, yet nothing played when we did the training mode. Gyuah?

I noticed the same thing; the video showed Raditz voice actor recording his lines during the first training mission, yet in the game there was only text. Very puzzling... :?

Yea, I seen that. I just figured they didn't record it so they just left the text, ya know being it's FUNimation and all...but now that you say the actuall text was recorded I think maybe it's because you are rapidly pressing X to skip the talking parts that after awhile it will disable the dailouge for that one part of the story...maybe?

 I assure you, I didn't have my thumb down on the button. I played that training mode twice, just to be sure. I have no idea why Dimps wouldn't use this clip, since it was already finished. Maybe it was just a programming snafu.

Now I'm kinda pissed. There's a Chibi Goku DU?

I think there was supposed to be, but there's not. EX claims to have heard audio clips from a potential Kid Goku DU (sidenote: match up Kid Goku and Piccolo, the result is hilarious XD)

Here's a thought. What if the 3/4 weeks-delayed UK game actually has some of those/other extra features? Possible, no?

Here's another thought. If they do add any of those things to the PAL version, guess what game I'm gonna pirate? I paid my $50 for the game, so I should get a complete version.

Don't get me wrong though. I'm loving what there is in the U.S. version. But rushing a game out to the U.S. and then fixing it or making it better for the PAL or Japanese version is just BS.

The EU version was bugged, that's all that's being fixed. But the JAP and GC versions will probably have the extras.

I was just screwing around with the "character memories", soundfiles for each character that you can unlock through DU, and stumbled upon even more strange, unfinished story ideas.

I didn't check them all; some were for Goku fighting the androids (which you don't get to do), a few about Goku facing an unknown opponent who's defeated Gohan and Vegeta, and suprisingly, the last one is SSJ4 Goku confronting Super 17. I'm going to have to sit down and listen to them all now.

I give them credit for what they DID put in the game. There were more improvements in this sequel than you'll ever see in the majority of fighting game sequels. After all, they never did promise Bulma or Super 17 to be in the game in the first place, and already introduced many new characters (all that were promised in the Gamepro issue), a new story mode, new levels, and new gameplay mechanics with just a year of development.

But they also said that the "What If"s from Budokai 2 would return, as well as new ones. Unless they count some of the alternate storylines in Dragon Universe, this didn't happen.

Here's some more unfinished-ness with Vegeta. I went ahead and unlocked his memories (didn't listen to them all yet though) and there's two near the beginning that caught my interest. One his something about "Kakarotto? No, another Saiyan." or something like that. Makes me think it's from Chibi Goku's DU... or maybe Bardock's?

Also, there's one along the line of "And if you're here now then you must work for Frieza!" or some such. Unlock it and hear for yourself. ^^

The European Budokai 3 is identical to the American version. Seeing what they did with Budokai 2, i guess Japanese people will have a complete version.

I heard like the costumes were all screwy and such. But I'm definately pissed about all this unfinished crap. Why is there so much hidden audio? Why would they leave such a great game unfinished?
