Scariest Arc?

Post by RoarkVegeta » Thu Aug 27, 2009 8:54 pm

Which arc in the series made you scared in a way?

For me? The first half of Daimao. That eerie music. Death. And rain.

The Boo arc was pretty creepy at points, what with Boo going inside someone and expanding himself to kill them, but that was more creepy than scary.

I'd have to agree with you there. That was the first part in the series where you knew it was going to be very serious at points.

Just that shot of Gokuu. Lying on the ground. It's raining. He appears to be dead, though he's not. I get chills everytime.

It's amazing how Dragon Ball can be so ridiculously humorous at times, but it can be so serious too. I remember I was the same way when I first saw Krillin dead at the end of the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai. So intense for a show like Dragon Ball....

It wasn't ever really scary, but to me the Buu was the most... shocking? Maybe that's the wrong word.

But basically that's just because I had a basic knowledge of what happened for the rest of series before I properly read it. But the Buu saga was mostly fresh.

The Piccolo Daimao arc. Just not knowing what's going to happen next or how things will turn out.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Having watched the Trunks special prior to the Android arc, that was the most foreboding, if not scary, part of the story for me. 17 & 18 were ruthless murderers, and seemed invincible. Then they showed up and were totally disinterested in causing any real havoc. That was so disappointing.

I think Fake Namek was the scariest arc. I thought they were going to die when they crashed into the mirror spaceship!

For me

Post by Psionic Dragon » Thu Aug 27, 2009 9:22 pm

The scariest arc was the beginning of the Cell arc, I was just terrified of him in his first form (not counting his larval stage as his first form). Seeing him hunt down people and suck the life out of them freaked me out.

I'll come up with something clever. Just not now.

I'd say the latter Saiyan arc...Vegeta loses almost out of sheer LUCK, and the whole group of characters is the worst off at the end of that arc than any other.

I don't think of any of the arcs as "scary" though. Just...I dunno. Brutal.

Not necessarily scary, but the part that had me most tense was the Freeza arc up until Goku arrived. At this point I had only seen the Saiyan arc and it showed me that, unlike American TV animation, this show wasn't afraid of killing half the main cast. So, coming right off of that, it felt like Gohan, Krillin, Dende, or Vegeta could die at any moment due to how ridiculously powerful Freeza, his men, and the Ginyu Force were at the time.

The King Piccolo are was probably the scariest.

I'd say the Namek/Freeza arc after that.

I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner....

There seems to be quite a few nightmares in the Android arc. That arc can be pretty scary at times.

I was the one who created a thread for dark moments in Dragon Ball too, good grief....

An entire arc never really scared me. Here are some moments that made me go "holy shit!" though.

-Dodoria killing cargo and Dende shaking his brothers burn limp husk of a body.
-Spopovitch kicking the shit out of Videl
-Freeza skewering Kuririn
My friend broke my PSP just in time for Naruto Ultimate Ninja 5 to come out....WHOOOO!

That is what i was going to say but you beat me to it. The empty citys, the guy geting sucked up in front of Piccolo, its is the most distubing arc to me.

This probably doesn't count as to what was originally intended for this topic, but when Dragon Ball returned from hiatus on Toonami at the start of the Baba arc, I was scared everyday I'd catch a rerun, since Peter Cullen never gave individual promos for episodes, just "NEW DRAGON BALL!"

As for something in-universe actually being frightening... I guess Fake Namek the first time I saw it. They spent a lot of time in dark caves, methinks. And it was that Midnight Run thing on Cartoon Network. And I was 9.

Oh yeah, forgot about this. The lead up to Cell's introduction is the best part of the whole Cell saga (that's from Trunks arrival to him saving his future).

Nothing after the Freeza saga was remotely scary due to the fact that anyone who died could just be wished back by one of the sets of Dragonballs they had.

The Freeza saga was the most frightening to me because Piccolo could be offed at any moment, leaving the entire Dragon world dragonball-less, not to mention back in those days the "only can be wished back once" rule was still in effect.

Not to mention Freeza was a ruthless motherfucker who wasn't above goring the shit out of anyone and killed a shitload of people.

I definately agree! So many helpless people getting stabbed, then sucked right out of their clothes! If I remember right, the (Broadcast Dub) music didn't make it any less creepy. Yuck...

The Imperfect Cell arc was the most disturbing to me. I haven't seen the King Piccolo arc since it broadcast on Toonami way back when but I do remember it being pretty spooky.
