Let's see, Freeza said that he destroyed Planet Vegeta 30 years ago. Goku was born shortly before the planet was destroyed, and sent to Earth as it was being destroyed. *Counts*

12 years old at the start of DB.
Almost 13 at the 21st Tenkaichi Budoukai
16 at the 22nd Budoukai
19 at the 23rd Budoukai
24 when Raditz got to Earth
25 when he fought Freeza...

It seems Toriyama's math was a little off there...

Don`t recall him ever saying how long ago it was that planet Vegeta was destroyed,though it has been a fair while since I last saw the Freeza saga.

I remember him saying it was at least 20 years ago. He probably didn't mean exactly 20 years, but close enough.

Freeza blows up Planet Vegeta in 737 AD. Goku is born shortly before that (so we can assume the same year).

Goku becomes a Super Saiya-jin and defeats Freeza on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24th), 762 AD. That would make him 25 years old, indeed.

I have a question. Where exactly do the dates come from? Other than a few times in both the manga and anime, they never mention the date. Also they never mention the year either.

I'm pretty sure the dub says something along the lines of 30 years ago. But 25 years ago does make more sense.

There's also something I never understood about the dates. If DB is supposed to take place on a fictional Earth, why does Toriyama use the B.C./A.D. system? They dont correlate to our dates do they? They obviously didnt have Hover Cars in the Dark Ages.

No, I actually remember Freeza in the dub thinking about Gohan and trying to figure out who he was and I'm pretty sure during that point he says "twenty years ago" when he mentions his destruction of Planet Vegeta.

The 30 years ago line is in movie #8, both dub and original. Though around the time that movie takes place, it's coming up on 30 years so Paragus might've just rounded it off.

I'm pretty sure the Bardock TV special said Goku was born only days before the Bardocks Not Fade Away tirade.

It might be Toei doing more filler, but if it was good enough for Toriyama to feature in the manga (for two panels), it must have some relevance.
