Shunsuke Kikuchi on his score?

Post by JulieYBM » Mon Nov 02, 2009 10:22 pm

I was just wondering, were notes or some sort of written article on his influences on/and his work ever released?

Thanks!

I know that the Daizenshū (5 disk set) has notes of some kind about the music, but I'm not too sure what it says.

The BGM Collection and the two Ongakushu volumes have essays in their booklets, ranging from short to long, about the music as a whole, but I haven't bothered with translating them yet.

The music was totally influenced by Asian cinema. Kung Fu flicks and the likes. I've been watching some old school martial arts movies and I notice a lot of similarities, Kunzuit_83 first brought this to my attention.

Though I don't know the source, it is said that he was strongly influenced by Urato Watanabe (1909-1994), the father of BGM composition in Japan. In addition, on rare occasions, his works sound like the score of Akira Ifukubuke, the composer of Godzilla. Here is an example.

Did shunsuke Kikuchi do music for UFO Grendizer? It sounds similar.

He also did the music for the Street Fighter and Sister Street Fighter series from the mid 70s. Identical instrumentation, chord progressions, everything.
