What's The Best Relationship In The Series?

Post by Ultimate_DB_Fan » Fri Nov 06, 2009 6:29 pm

Is it Goku and Chi Chi? Vegeta and Buruma? Kuririn and 18? Or how 'bout Gohan and Videl? Explain why you think so, too.
For me, I easily have to go with Gohan and Videl. There's just something very nice and magical about it. For one thing, Gohan basically brought Videl into the exciting, fun ways of the DB universe, and showed her things that she never knew about. If it wasn't for Gohan, Videl could've potentially married some douchebag and continued to put her life on the line against small-time crooks in Satan City.
Fast foward to when she's flying with Gohan and Kibit, there's a nice moment where, before she goes back to the tournament grounds to relay to everyone else about what's going on, she remembers Gohan's smile in her head and says to herself that she wants him to come back safely so she could date him and stuff, which I found really nice.

Kuririn and 18. They seem pretty happy.

Although, beyond personal preference, that relationship has hardly anything supporting it, and that says a lot since this is Dragon Ball. The best relationship based on what(little) we're shown is probably as you said, Gohan and Videl.

Gohan and Videl. They are the most level-headed and normal couple in the series in my opinion. :D

Let's look at the dynamics of all the couples in this series.

Chichi: Let's get married!
Goku: Food!
Chichi: Great we're married SHUT UP STOP RAISING OUR SON HE'S GOING TO BE A FUCKING SCIENCEMAN

Bulma: I'M BITCHY AND HORNY
Vegeta: I'M ANGRY AND HORNY

Gohan: I'm a SUPERHERO!
Videl: I'm a SUPER STALKER!

Kuririn: Hot!
18: What the hell, sure.

I always thought Tenshinhan and Lunch made a cute couple. It's too bad it never went anywhere though.

Well, we see almost no interaction between them, beyond that kiss. They show up in the second OP/at the tournament with a kid, and that's about it.

And where exactly did you get this dynamic from? lol

Anyways, I do like Vegeta and Bulma just cause the relationship is surprising and unexpected in my opinion and I think it's another main component in the evolvement of Vegeta's character.

I always liked Piccolo Daimao. I thought it was really awesome how he put aside the fact that he was dying in order to spit out an egg and continue his bloodline. He's very responsible when it comes to family, unlike a certain Son we know who keeps conveniently dying every time a new kid comes into the picture.

The rest of you are nuts if you think there's a better family man out there than Piccolo Daimao.

What're you talking about? That guy was more of an absentee father than Goku ever was. And you know that's saying something.

My sarcasm meter is nonexistent.

Anyways. I'd've just blurted out Goku and Chichi for the hell of it, because I do think they're cute, but even I can admit that their relationship is a little dysfunctional. So, I'd have to agree with most of the rest of the posters here thus far and say Gohan and Videl - they had a slightly rocky start, but damn if it doesn't look like they ended up well together. My second place would have to be Kuririn and 18, because, while 18 certainly has her less positive traits, they do seem to love each other and get along well enough. That, and I don't think I've ever actually seen one screaming at the other (though I may have just missed it).

Of course, we certainly can't go forgetting Roshi and Turtle. QUIT MAKING FACES, YOU KNOW THAT'S SEXY.

Or not.

In all reality, I'm kinda jealous of Goku and Chi-Chi's relationship. I wish I could just go away on super long training trips without getting in some sort of serious trouble with the lady.

Bulma and Vegeta's relationship is unpredictable but fun. They're like that one couple you know or at least met once. They argue and fight all the fucking time and you're left wondering why they hell are they still together? Easy, they know that no one else in world would put up with their bullshit. Oh, and sex must great! You just know in the back of your mind that Vegeta loves the playing the submissive role... Wait, what are we talking about?

Oh right, best relationship. Like I said BxV are proably not the most sound couple in anime but lets compare them to the others look at what we got:

Goku is in very abusive relationship. If you watch the way Chichi talks to him and hit with the kitchen appliances it's just not not healthy. The poor guy tried to leave her but he's just coming back to that.

Gohan and Videl one word, BOOOORRRRRRINNNNGGG! My god I don't know what happened to Videl when she got married. She had so much spunk, personality, and maybe a little stalking issue but she was cool. In GT she became this dull mother type figure. Gohan and Videl took the Mommy and Daddy role to a tee, there's absolutely nothing interesting about the two except for their Super hero persona.

Android 18 and Kirrlin make a cool couple I suppose, not as fun as BxV though. Kirrlin hit the jackpot, he married a hot blond who doesn't age! That is straight up pimpin'. 18 however.... Well she ended up with someone that makes her laugh, and really that's the best a woman could hope for.

Tenshinhan and Lunch...

Obviously it did happen... In my head.

But the best couple in the whole Dragonball Universe is obviously these two...

He didn't marry her because of her looks, that's for fucking sure!

That's part of what makes their relationship dysfunctional in my opinion, though. When they're both around each other and there's nothing going on to pull them apart, and when Chichi isn't shouting at Goku for whatever, they seem to get on beautifully. But once you disappear like that - for whatever reason - it can really tax things between people who've agreed to support each other, you know? That demands a lot of trust and patience from the person left behind - perhaps an unfair amount of it. (And when the first thing the missing person does when he comes back is to ask for some kind of favor, that can be even worse.) So even if he doesn't get into "serious trouble" from what we as the viewers see, you can bet there is some conflict/resentment going on behind the scenes. I can't imagine she acts as poorly as she does to him just to be a bitch.

Haha, I think I'm taking this a bit too seriously. It's a good thing I never got into writing fanfiction, I guess... too many angsty scribblings about this kind of thing as it is.

Yes. Yes you are. You're taking all of the fun out of a relationship like that by adding this weird thing called realism that everyone's so obsessed with. :P

DragonBall Relationships in a nutshell:

Goku & ChiChi
ChiChi: "You promised to marry me."
Goku: "I did?"
ChiChi: "Yes, sweetie. Now take off your pants. We're making some kids, pronto."
*SEXING ENSUES*

Bulma & Vegeta
Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote:Bulma: "I'M BITCHY AND HORNY"

Vegeta: "I'M ANGRY AND HORNY"
*SEXING ENSUES*

Kuririn & Eighteen
Kuririn: "I know you will always have an underlying urge to kill my best friend, but I find you very attractive."
Eighteen: "...Ah well, I guess you're pretty cute yourself."
*ROBO-SEXING ENSUES*

Gohan and Videl
Gohan: "Hey look, I can do nifty Saiyan stuff."
Videl: "Oh hey, that's pretty neat."
*SEXING ENSUES*

... Yep, Toriyama's forte is definitely comedy-action. Let's leave it at that.

I always thought Goku and Chi Chi's relationship was pretty strong. They're both pretty dedicated towards each other to put up with the things they do from the other person.

For some reason that gives me some sort of weird impression of Toriyama's real life relationships.

You know, I always envisioned Vegeta and Bulma getting it on like this.

Vegeta is frustrated with training and randomly becomes sexually frustrated. He then just forces himself on Bulma. He accepts and likes it.
