Something Beautiful
Remember Gundam Wing? I have no idea how many Gundam fans are on this board, or how many people even watched/remember the series but I think I can safetly assume that the vast majority of the people on this forum are at least aware of it's existence. I happen to be a huge Gundam fan and Wing is my favourite of the franchise. Getting to the point of this topic, my favourite character Treize Khushrenada, has a beautiful image song entitled: Hoshikuzu no Senshi-tachi (Soldiers of Stardust). Aside from being a great song, it also perfectly reflects the character it bases itself off of. This, in my opinion, is a prime example of a perfectly done image song.
So how does all of this relate to Dragonball your thinking?
Well two ways:
1. Do you think this song (link below) could fit into any particular scene in Dragonball/Z/GT? Is there anything about it that reminds you of moments or characters? Personally I can't think of any examples of the top of my head, I more or less wan't to hear other people's thoughts on the matter. I will think more about it and possibly post my views later.
2. What Dragonball image songs do you think are perfect for their base characters?
You may wonder why I want to know this. Well I like the idea of taking songs/scenes from different series, matching them up, determining whether or not they fit, and discussing it with other fans. It is a little hard for me to do with this piece due to the fact that I have trouble thinking of anything other then Treize as I listen to it, but I am interested in hearing what other people can make out of it. Keep in mind that you obviously don't have to answer both questions.
Give it a listen and tell me what you think:

Listening to this song, I just couldn't stop thinking about the Piccolo Daimao arc, particularly Goku's discovery of the dead Kuririn and Daimao's creation of Ma Junior.

Gundam Wing, that brings back memories. I actually have all the Operation CDs, though admittedly I don't really listen to "Stardust Soldiers" all that much, simply because image songs aren't really my thing. I'm crazy about the BGM, though, not to mention "Just Communication" and "Rhythm Emotion." TWO-MIX is incredible.
I'm not sure if GW image songs would really fit DragonBall all that much. They have a different, more somber feel to them than you usually get with DragonBall. That's not to say it isn't worth checking into, though.

BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.
I recently picked up the first boxset of Gundam Wing & the Endless Waltz OAV, and, man, it brought back good memories. One of the examples from the 90's that showed that anime could be translated, edited, dubbed properly with good voice actors, and furthermore, could be shown on a mainstream network without any problems. Many memories of either watching it slightly cut in the day time, or staying up to watch Toonami's Midnight Run and Gundam uncut...
Hmm...but, I don't know, I personally can't really compare GW to Dragon Ball that much...they both have different feels to me. Dragon Ball Z's score is a bit more fast paced like a kung-fu movie or an action movie, sometimes cartoon-ish in sound. Which is what Dragon Ball is. On the other hand, Gundam's score tends to get really somber at times like a sci-fi movie or a fantasy tale. Even with the action scenes, there's always something dark and serious about Gundam's score compared to Dragon Ball's, which reflects Gundam Wing's general atmosphere as a sci-fi, serious (ish) anime.

These are some of the best memories of my childhood.RogueA007 wrote: Many memories of either watching it slightly cut in the day time, or staying up to watch Toonami's Midnight Run and Gundam uncut...
But back on topic, does anyone have anything to say for the second part of the question?

If you're praising Gundam Wing, my guess is you haven't seen a lot of Gundam. I consider it one of the weaker entries in the franchise.
But I suppose this is discussion for elsewhere...
The music, at least, was pretty solid in GW. It had sort of a James Bond feel to it.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.
Dragon Ball (Z) Kai Reviews!
Can I get a Schemen?
Gundam Wing is one of my favorites because it brings back warm fuzzy memories and I like the fact they didn't hack it to death with bad editing/voice acting unlike other series that were being released in the US around that time. If we're talking about more serious aspects of Gundam such as story/plot/art, then yes, I will agree that there are other Gundam series that achieve that better. GW in fact slips up a lot in that aspect to where it becomes rather laughable sometimes.penguintruth wrote:If you're praising Gundam Wing, my guess is you haven't seen a lot of Gundam. On Topic ish:
Hmm, with the second question you asked, you mean what Dragon Ball image songs in our opinions fit well with the characters, right? I personally like the lyrics to Aitsu wa Son Goku, and Unmei no Hi: Tamashii vs Tamashii. Or at least those are the ones that immediately pop into my head right now.

I have actually seen all of Gundam except for X, V, and some of the OVAs/Movies.penguintruth wrote:If you're praising Gundam Wing, my guess is you haven't seen a lot of Gundam. I consider it one of the weaker entries in the franchise.

The reason I like Wing so much other then nostalgia is that it is much more politically based then a lot of the other series. What I mean is that watching Gundam Wing I realize that the plot and characters come first and the action takes a back seat. While this may be an annoyance to some fans, it is certainly my cup of tea. Everytime I watch it, the story always completley sucks me in to the point of no return. No to say that Dragonball or other Gundam series don't, but something about Wing is just special. Perhaps it's the characters, who I find extremely well done and likeable (spare a few). I admit that it has it's flaws, but no Gundam series is perfect and the flaws don't tend to bother very much. It's somewhat of an acquired taste, but everyone has entitlement to their own opinions and when it come to Gundam, I think that Wing shines just slightly above all the rest (with some esxceptions, it trumps seed big time IMO). For me, Wing is the best with Zeta coming in as an extremely close second.
If this were a Gundam forum I would discuss this in far more detail, but it isn't so I'll focus mainly on staying on topic and trying to prevent this from becoming a complete Gundam thread with no Dragonball realtion. Perhaps if you are a member of any Gundam froums we could discuss it further their?
