Episode #0197! VegettoEX and Meri review the new PS3 and 360 game, "DragonBall: Raging Blast". Does Spike's first high-definition offering live up to and exceed the prior series, or should fans looking for the best "DBZ-simulator" on the market just stick with "METEOR"...? No news, but November's releases, your e-mails, and contests to give away "Raging Blast" and a Dragon Box round out the episode! Referenced sites:

Is it possible for me to do the Target print off thing in Canada? Porbably not I'm assuming.

I'm about to cave in and buy the Dragon Box from Best Buy, too. I mean, damn, I pre-ordered it immediately, and some random jerkoff who hasn't even heard of the release can waltz into Best Buy and buy it before it even is officially released. It angers me to no end. I haven't even received shipping confirmation.

As far as the Dragon Ball releases, I may hold out for a Dragon Box release, but I won't wait long. If after a couple of years, there's no DBox release for the original series, I'll go for the current sets. It's not like the show is high on my priority list.

Yeah, aside from the screwy camera, I love how the characters move. It's quite close to what you see in the show and for whatever reason I find it refreshing.

...then again, this is all based on YT videos.

The Dragon Box is $43 at Hastings. I might just get it there. :)

I'm not sure I'll pick up Raging Blast. I went back to play Sparking Neo and Meteor recently and found myself getting bored very quickly. I wouldn't mind renting it though. If I owned a PS3 or 360....

Also, tempting us with that last bit, are we Mike?

Hastings is where I get all my media now. They're consistently 10 dollars cheaper than Best Buy. Sometimes more; in the case of the Dragon Box, almost $30 cheaper.

To be fair to the other stores, Best Buy is consistently over-priced.

Not with anime... I always found bestbuy to be among the best; the yu yu hakusho sets go for only $24 there.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Can't wait for the Dragon Box review.

Also, the big episode 200 is so close. Think about it, from the time you guys started the podcast, we got a Daizenshuu and Dragon Box in North America, and Dragon Ball Z was re-imagined in Japan. Crazy.

Mike, when I heard about your bruises on your palms,I felt the pain of Mario Party blisters return

Judging by the information from this review accompanied by my own personal preferences when it comes to db fighting games, it looks like I made the right choice in passing over Raging Blast in favor of the DBKai DS game.

Is there any particular reason why we never got a sequel to Super Dbz? *Is one of those who really liked that game*. Did it not bring in enough cash to make a 2nd game viable?

The camera IS pretty bad....but what I hated the most was:

1. The block button seems not to work a lot between combo punches

2. You CAN'T pause the game half the time.

Also a smaller note, the levels feel too 'small' horizontally. Like it feels like I'm fighting in a paper towel roll. You cany fly like a mile up in the sky from the Namek ocean floor...but you can not go too far left and right.

Same here. I remember getting a terrible blister from winding up that flying toy thing. :x

It (for me) was the best DBZ I've ever played. I had so much fun playing it with my friend. :D
I just wish it had a story mode though. That would've made it a lot more fun to play by myself.
Maybe we could get a story mode in a possible Super DBZ 2? Or would it be Super Dragon Ball Kai? Lol.
Either way, that's the kind of fighting game I'd like to see more of.

So, I just bought the game. (360) I really liked the Sparking games, but this really feels like a huge step backwards. God, the controls are so fucking clunky it's not even funny.

You say that to unlock all the characters I have to beat every fight in Hard?

Well, shit. This may be the first DB game where I don't at least unlock the characters.

I honestly think Spike should have continued what they were doing on the Wii. I bought Meteor (BT3 actually) on the PS2 when it came out, then about 6 months ago I bought the Wii version since it was $20. Seriously, it's a new game to me. Truly the best way to utilize the Sparking engine was to put it on the Wii.

Needless to say, RB fails as a next-gen attempt at a DB game. Burst Limit 2 kplzthx.

Even though I already own it, I look forward to your review of the DBox.

Y'know, I can understand how the "Sparking!" style games can be compared to "Legends" in terms of being a DBZ Simulator, but I never really considered the "Sparking!" games to really succeed "Legends" as much as "Supersonic Warriors" did. Even then, neither successor really had the cool balance system and the tag team in "Supersonic Warriors 2" wasn't like the tag team system in "Legends."

The three simultaneous battles where you can switch between battles on the fly and the balance system are really what makes "Legends" so different and is probably why it's my favorite DBZ game as well as the only DBZ Simulator I really like!

Sorry. I just had to get that out of the way.

Other than that, "Raging Blast" at least a little bit of kudos from me for having the Japanese music in it.

In the written review of Raging Blast, it was mentioned that Kenji Yamamoto composed the music for the game, but is that just based of the style of the music or is it an assumption?
Because I don't see Kenji Yamamoto in the credits and Raging Blast isn't listed on 59's Laboratory's website.
And I don't even see anything about a music composer in the credits... Just "Sound Designer: Hiroshi Isokawa". :?

So Sunday on the three-hour drive from place#1 to place#π, I wound up playing 'Budokai TenkaIchi' (the first one).
I seem to recall liking it more than BT3/Meteor (Easier to tell what's going on, among other things), but I'm all of a sudden feeling the restrictiveness of not being able to teleport mid-combo. Heh...
*aAhem*. I don't see the control changes for Raging Blast working well for me... not that I have / intend to get a PS3 (Does three 'PS1's and a 'PS2' add up to... umm... PS5?)...

So wait, am I the only one that twirls the analogue sticks via thumbs?
Actually, that only ever caused any lasting damage when trying to Dramatic Battle against Akuma in SF:Alpha2. Really awkwardly-positioned blister-thing...

That's the one where both characters use the same lifebar, right?

I want to know about the super finishing moves... Are they as bad looking as what we saw from the beta version and early videos?

And hearing you about hurting your hands with twisting the analog sticks... you have no idea how many PS and PS2 controlers I broke with games that requires twisting the analog sticks in order to something.
