Who has lost interest in Kai?

Post by SHINOBI-03 » Mon Jan 04, 2010 7:13 am

I don't know if a lot of you did, but yes. I stopped watching Kai ever since episode 22 was on.

One of the main reasons is the negative opinions of the changes.
Since a lot of you who were familier to the anime, and always critisized the editing and changes and the redrawn scenes, I said "That's enough! I'll go to the original Z version."

My second reason is the Dragon Box.
The Dragon Box was announced, and the second set is coming in February, I thought of saving all the fun and excitment to the best format.
Even though I know all the story from the manga, but I'm not familier with the anime. I want to enjoy the filler and the dragged scenes and experince it like everyone else did.

Third reason: The slow fansubs!
Yes. I admit that I watched it fansubbed version. But because they were damn slow, they made me loss interest in watching it again.
Especialy the early ones that you can tell just from listening how terrible they were.

So that's it. No more Kai for me.

I didn't like it after a while, it was obvious that not everything was redrawn, then the redrawn stuff was getting sloppy, they didn't even correct a few things, I don't get the point of it being HD if it's going to be so badly made.

The music put me off too, it sounded like it was trying to be One Piece music, and the acting was so badly done... The theme song also put me off.

I would have preferred a new anime simply called "Dragon Ball" or "New Dragon Ball" and have it based directly on the manga. Although Toei aren't exactly the greatest animation studio, it would have probably looked like crap anyway.

And yeah, the Dragon Boxes sealed the deal, I was even going to rewatch the Season 2 and onwards around the time it was announced but I ended up getting excited for the Dragon Boxes and wanting to have it as fresh as possible in my mind, and watching Kai would spoil that. If Funimation ever released it sometime in the future I would probably get it. But I'd rather have the 4:3 version on DVD and the 16:9 version on Blu-ray, but I guess that's a bit much to ask for. I'd rather watch it once I'm done buying and watching the Dragon Boxes.

I'm watching Kai online when I'm really bored, so I'm missing about 2 - 4 episodes at time.
What was looking not that bad in early episodes were redrawn scenes, but now when the art is more detailed in Freeza arc, the redrawn scenes look a lot out of the place and I don't like them pretty much.....

Also I'm pretty bored from the repetitive Yamamoto's music..... Yeah, Kikuchi was also repetitive, but you know, in each arc, there were introduced new major themes but in Kai, when there is fight, you almost always hear track A Formidable Saiyan Warrior from first OST and when it's sad, you hear the sad melody from before etc.

Maybe it's awesome for new audience, but as a long time fan of this franchise, I know where my affiliation belongs

I lost my interest when they started censoring shit. I'm sure they don't do it as much now--if at all, even--but that completely turned me off of following Kai more or less for good. I still love the new eyecatches and the opening/ending animations, though.

I've never really had an interest in Kai. Sure, they cut out the filler, but if I want to experience DBZ without filler, without Flash-looking animation and without censoring (Viz notwithstanding), then why just not read the dang manga? It's like the animanga, only in reverse. And not quite as redundantly-redundant.

As a fansubber, I find your statement truly unrespectful and ask you; how much work do you think it takes to make a proper fansub? You probably have not the slightest idea... that, or you're just a person that only cares about himself.

Back to topic: yes, the badly redone scenes, the voice changes, and the sometimes unfitting music, as well as less good acting as opposed to DBZ made me lose interest in Dragonball Kai. I stopped at around episode 16.

Let's not derail the topic, but I do know how hard it is. Kinda.

I used to be a translater and editor for One Piece manga two years ago, but stopped due to other projects.
I also used to be the Arabic fansubber for "Uchuusen Sagittarius". So, I know how hard fansubbing an anime, and I do care about translating everything as accurate as possible rather than doing it as fast as possible and ignoring accuracy.

My enthusiasm has worn off considerably, but I wouldn't say I've completely "lost interest." There's still a lot of nice new little surprises that the show dishes up every so often (like epic BGM placement).

The very nature of it still being trimmed-down is what keeps me intrigued. At this point I'm eager to see how Goku vs Freeza plays out.

I haven't really "lost interest," really, I'm just an odd sheep and find this portion of the series generally weak, whether it be Z, Kai, or the manga. I'll pick it back up when Freza's "dead," and then marathon it. 8)

Because an anime shouldn't be so much worse than the manga it's based off of?

There are some nice live stream options, but there is also the R2 DVD and the R1 Blu-ray releases, and well, everything ends up online.

The initial thrill has long worn off, but I still enjoy Kai, even with its flaws, and would recommend it to others who want to rewatch the series, but lack the patience to.

I doubt I would actually buy it on DVD or Blu-Ray, unless there was a significantly impressive English dub on it when Funimation licenses it. Eh, maybe I'll cave and buy some of the Namek/Freeza arc, regardless, since it's where Kai shines. The Saiyan arc is better with the original cut's filler.

I'm going to continue watching it and see what Toei does with later material. Is it possible for them to cut out Mr. Satan's students out of the Cell Games, or are they in vital footage? The Buu arc needs Kai's compression the most.

Maybe they'll do brand new animation for the final episode, with the Kanzenban ending!

I actually stopped watching during the beginning of the Namek arc but after a few episodes I picked it up again and now I faithfully watch it every week (raw).
I got past the changes and the censoring, and it's a shame when I see one of my favorite scenes being cut, but I still watch it. I also like the new music and such, and I always guess what the cliffhanger will be. I mostly guess too far ahead, though.

Anyway, it's a great way to rewatch DBZ after all those years. I also love the Freeza arc, also a reason I watch every week.

I'm still watching, but I'm not eagerly looking forward to it like I used to. What I'm curious about is how they're going to handle the Goku vs Freeza battle. I want to see how they stitch it all together.
On hiatus.

That ran in Czech Republic translated as Adventurers from space when I was kid
One of those series where Kageyama also held vocals in opening.

BTW. I don't have any problem with fansubs I see on megavideo, yeah, sometimes I saw incorrect terms and translations, but they are fansubs from people who are doing it for free, sometimes much less old in age then me or some of you + as free translator you are a lot underrated and nobody is respecting your work as they should, it's always: ''And when will the next episode be and why it's not done alredy and no thank you for your work''.....

Damn I'm grateful that I learned to speak and understand english...... Way to go with Japanese, I have a big delay in learning now.

I also was doing Dragon Ball translations to CZ but canceled it because of lost of interest, you know, there is Naruto, Bleach and One Piece nowadays))

I stopped watching it after the fourth episode >_> It was exciting at first to have a new show and actually watch it as it was airing on tv in Japan, but I was mostly excited because I'd never seen those initial Z episodes in Japanese before. I started taking too long to watch the new eps, and it dragged on like that until the Dragonbox was announced and that basically killed any lingering interest in Kai.

Seriously- we were finally getting all of that material that had been cut out of the old English broadcast back- why the hell would I then want to turn around and watch the show with it cut again? I can't see myself buying or picking back up Kai, I like the original too much.

Hmm. Except for Bura, nobody in here's retained the whole of their initial enthusiasm (Disincluding Rocketman since I'm not sure what his feelings on Kai are or whether he's still enjoying himself as much, and B because he won't be able to form much of an opinion until we reach a part of the series he likes, presumably the Cell and Buu arcs). Not a good track record, Dragon Ball Kai.

As for me, I was never interested to begin with. The new music's a novelty, but I was as turned off by the censorship as Tweaker, along with the whole 'Let's dramatically weaken the narrative by removing the filler episodes spent training for the Saiyans' thing. Kai's main selling point for me is just seeing how the actors have changed in the 11 years separating GT's ending from Kai's beginning.

Well, almost completely contrary to the first post, I like the changes so far, I'm not getting the Dragon Box, and I was watching raw rather than subbed.

However I have pretty much lost interest. I used to watch each episode as soon as I could, but the last one I watched was 34 I think. I'll catch up at some point though.
