DBZU and DBZU2 seems to be officially gone now.

Post by TVfan721 » Tue Jan 05, 2010 10:20 am

I notice the links for both sites are no longer working. Does anyone know if both sites have been taken down officially. I know I've been very critical of both sites in previous posts but there were some good gems in there such as the interviews. At least we can still view the sites in archived form.

I thought that both sites had been down for awhile. I always looked up archived versions of them during the times here or there that I needed information from them or just felt like looking back on old times. Very angry "FUNimation is the enemy" times, but still old times.

You mean DBZ Uncensored? Yeah, I tried to get to it just yesterday, but it seems that the site that now hosts/last hosted it is now gone. :(

As for DBZ Uncensored 2... I'm kinda glad that's gone. Although it was good for some laughs, I'll admit.

Sooo... somebody else wanna host it?

Yeah DBZU2 was quite funny because of how over the top it was. I'm not going to miss that one much.

The original DBZU wasn't bad. Chris had some really cool stuff on there. I'm definitely going to miss that site.

Chris Psaros really had a way of making me bust up whenever I read his reviews. Might seem over-the-top today, but considering what he was dealing with back then, his frustration was understandable. It's a shame the archive's down, I had a lot of fun reading through his stuff way back when.

DBZU2...isn't that the one where the main guy went in a huge ass rant against Funimation in his Movie 8 review because Vegeta said "Darn it" instead of "dammit?"

Chris Psaros' DBZ Uncensored was one of the best Dragon Ball Z sites. He put a lot of work into it. It's too bad the archive is gone, now.

I remember disagreeing him with a few things, though. One being that Sean Schemmel was any kind of improvement on Peter Kelamis' portrayal of Goku. Another that the Ocean dubs of the three movies weren't good.

I still would like to have seen it go on into the later dub seasons.

Some day I'd like to do something like that, comparing the subtitles to the dub script, dissecting it for its weaknesses.

It's unfortunate that such a strong peice of fandom history is gone, I know that without DBZU I would never have become a part of the Daizex community.

While the main site is gone, Dogasu's Backpack (A Pokemon Episode Comparsion site) has a working web archive link on his 'links' page so it's still viewable in some form. For those who want it: http://web.archive.org/web/200504051656 ... ncensored/

You know, it really does bother me that those most interested in talking about Dbzu 2 here seem to be those that want to focus solely worst parts of it they can find and focus only on negative aspects of it while completely ignoring any good and pretending that none exists or ever did.

There are actually some very good aspects to it I'm rather proud of. Like my putting a spotlight on the music issues from the "Genterview." (Gen's infamous remark about replacing the music- which disproved Funimation's excuses about why they couldn't use the Japanese music) I'm also proud of the interview with the Toei employee (Jose Fournier I think? I know he posts here, EX has boasted about using him as a source on the front of his page before) and of course, the successful dual-music petition I started. I should point out that when Funimation brought back the original music that they did exactly in that format with the dub- dual soundtrack options which I believe was the first and ONLY time an anime dvd release has had that for a dub. (if someone disagrees with me, I'd like to know of any other examples of "dual-music soundtracks" for a dub that have ever been produced, or if Funi's for DBZ is the only one in existence)

"DBZU2...isn't that the one where the main guy went in a huge ass rant against Funimation in his Movie 8 review because Vegeta said "Darn it" instead of "dammit?""

Yes I did- and you know why? Because the site was DBZ UNCENSORED 2. A large part of it's focus was on CENSORSHIP by Funimation. Them censoring words constitutes.... hmmm, what's the word? Oh yeah, censorship. If you look up Psaros's review of the "uncut" Ginyu Assault dvd you will notice that he fusses very heavily about Funimation censoring something from the animation in the dub.

Also, for all my bitching about the cursing- Trunks actually says "shit" in Movie 9. I did get lots of people to e-mail and voice complaints to Funimation back in the day about many issues, including the censorship of cursing and that likely led to the inclusion of some cursing in Movie 9. (I don't know about cursing in the rest of the dub movies though)

"Kakarrotto" does not translate to "Kakarot" and there is absolutely no reason whatsoever for this change."

You do know that review was written about 8 years ago? And that I issued a correction about the Kakarot thing in a news update about a month later on my site after having looked into it and having found I made a mistake? People make stupid mistakes sometimes, like Psaros's editorial about how the cast learned to fly (something I think he wrote before ever watching the first series, Dragon Ball- although, like me, he issued a correction) but that doesn't mean you need to harp on them eternally and use those mistakes to paint negatively broad strokes while. Particularly if a correction was already issued for said mistake.

Fyi, I consider my dual-petition that worked and then interview with the Toei employee far more "legendary" than one stupid mistake I issued a correction on before- I also consider the body of evidence and information I provided about large amount of Funimation's scripts pre-Simmonds being based on badly translated scripts from Japan, but you seem dead-set only on focusing on negative aspects about my site and work while ignoring any and all good.

Anyway, both sites will be back up again. Anime Cauldron which is my site host has just been having some hosting difficulties over the holidays, should be fixed within 1-4 weeks, after which DBZU and my DBZU 2 should be back up again. It'd be nice if some of the persons blindly flaming me while praising DBZU would thank or show me at least a modicum of gratitude or respect for having hosted it for the last few years when Dbzoa allowed it to die- but I don't plan on holding my breath.

Sean Schemmel is THE MAN! :)

Me- "Also, before anyone mentions it, Schemmel's interview was from nearly 15 years ago. He paid a brief visit to Kanzenshuu's forums a few years back and earned legendary respect that cancels out anything he said from that long ago. :D"

It is completely absurd that any DBZ character would say "darn" in the heat of battle, let alone Vegeta.

Nothing that was going on in Movie 8 constitutes "darn". More like "Holy fucking shit, look out for that big bulldozing retard!"

Yeah, DBZ Uncensored was one of my favorite sites back in the day, and alongside Planet Namek, DaizenshuuEX, and Ginga Giri Giri were the only Dragon Ball sites I regularly frequented in those far off days of, well, a decade ago back when I was a wild and rambunctious teenager trying for the life of me to get my friends to understand why the dub of DBZ was terrible (sadly, I never succeeded). And it was probably DBZ Uncensored in particular that converted me most of all. I would still often check it out when it was hosted on dbzoa.net and occasionally read the new stuff in DBZU2, but it was never quite the same to me; it lacked the pinache of Chris Psaros, although I generally enjoyed some of the stuff the DBZOA crew put out (I remember quite enjoying their "Poor Yamucha" editorial). Glad to hear it's going to be back up for viewing soon.

Has Chris said anything lately? I remember Mike saying he saw Cardass on AIM, and I saw Mr. E awhile back.

So I have a question. Are the Dboxes possibly bringing these people back?

Most of them want absolutely nothing to do with the series or us anymore, which I respect.

We've had Skitz, Castor, and of course Meri before. I've asked Ramza a couple times, but he randomly drops off the face of the planet for a few months at a time and I lose contact with him :).
