FUNimation dub of Kai vs full/original DBZ accuracy
So even if they did decide to dub DB Kai, what about the full version of the show? There still wouldn't be an accurate dubbing of that? You would only have an accurate dubbing of the shortened version of the show?
Re: FUNimation dub of Kai vs full/original DBZ accuracy
Which is still leagues better than what we have now. I'd rather have a small, fresh apple to eat than a large, rotted one.mystic trunks wrote:You would only have an accurate dubbing of the shortened version of the show?

So? Z is bleeeeergh. Accurate Kai would be the ideal.

FUNi should take it out behind the woodshed, give it one last treat, then blow its fucking brains out before it attacks the baby again.mystic trunks wrote:So even if they did decide to dub DB Kai, what about the full version of the show?

I don't think we'll get either, really. Call me a pessimist if you wish, but I'm only being realistic
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Re: FUNimation dub of Kai vs full/original DBZ accuracy
It would be great, and certainly the main reason for me to buy Kai on DVD or Blu-Ray, but I doubt I'll ever get an ideal English dub.
They would really have to makeover the dub. From scratch, probably.

Considering that FUNi does top-tier work with thier other 40 or so anime scripts...I don't see where a faithful one for Kai is that unbelievable.bkev wrote:I don't think we'll get either, really. Call me a pessimist if you wish, but I'm only being realistic

Have you seen the Z dub? They're bound to just do a half-assed dub.Savage68 wrote:Considering that FUNi does top-tier work with thier other 40 or so anime scripts...I don't see where a faithful one for Kai is that unbelievable.bkev wrote:I don't think we'll get either, really. Except that dub is old as shit, and they didn't bother to go back and fix anything because there's no profit in that.ShadowDude112 wrote:Have you seen the Z dub? What was the most recent DB related dub? Movie 13? GT? Or do we count the game scripts as "dubs?" Is anyone willing to spotcheck these?

Re: FUNimation dub of Kai vs full/original DBZ accuracy
Chris Sabat wrote Raging Blast, which might've (the 'elite warrior' speech is kept in line with the Japanese version, at least) been relatively correct, barring the Over 9000 meme and names/terms.

I didn't know Sabat wrote Raging Blast! Why doesn't he get on his VA team to stop half assing? Did he write the other games too?

Re: FUNimation dub of Kai vs full/original DBZ accuracy
John Burgmeier and Eric Vale wrote the 'Budokai Tenkaichi' game scripts, and did a great job.
Then, they(Burgmeier, at least) did Infinite World, and went back to the stupid dub lines. So, they can turn it on and off apparently.
If they want to do a faithful dub, they can sure as hell do it.

Re: FUNimation dub of Kai vs full/original DBZ accuracy
Everyone has to remember that the script they were using for the show is ancient. They were using the Ocean Dub script for the early episode if I remember correctly, thus the reason of "Over 9000" being in both English dubs before it was popular (Instead of Over 8000). I really think Funimation can come up with a proper script.

It's not like they don't have access to a more accurate script. They can, I don't know, look at the damn script being used for the subtitles, and adjust that.
Hell, I'll do it for them, just send me a check, Funimation.
I will also require Laura Bailey, with no questions.

Woah, woah, woah, sir. I was referring to Dragonball Z itself, not Funimation's dub of it.

As for an accurate dub of DBZ, I'd prefer one...but I can't say I have a crystal ball that can tell me if FUNimation would do one post-licensing of Kai.
