ESF: Final looks promising.
They've really pushed the goldsrc engine to it's limits.

Well, I've never heard of it, Mr. useless-negative post.
This looks really cool, though! My only question is: How safe is it to download?

You've honestly not heard of ESF? It's one of the oldest DBZ Half-Life Mods out there.Big Momma wrote:Rory wrote:It's also incredibly old.

I heard about it back in 2003/2004, and never played it yet.
Wonder if my laptop can handle it...

But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I honestly haven't. But then again, I've only been on the internet since about 2004. And this is the only Dragonball related site I go to (besides an occasional visit to kanzentai
).

People kinda' shut up about it after Sparking! was announced, as that's pretty much what it tried to accomplish as a fan-game.Kunzait_83 wrote:Not only oldest, but among the most well known and widely talked about. This thing was basically everywhere in online DBZ discussions throughout the early 00's. It was almost impossible NOT to run into images or a reference or link to it on a DBZ site somewhere, anywhere at the time. It was the closest thing to a new DBZ game in the time period between Final Bout and Budokai 1 when DB-related games were basically dead in the water, hence the massive attention it drew.Rory wrote:You've honestly not heard of ESF? It doesn't really need to exist anymore.
Re: Earth's Special Forces
If people want to play it, then why shouldn't it exist? Stop talking nonsense. ESF and those console DBZ games are completely different in gameplay.Rory wrote:People kinda' shut up about it after Sparking! was announced, as that's pretty much what it tried to accomplish as a fan-game.

Re: Earth's Special Forces
I never played Earth's Special Forces. I was a Bid for Power man myself.
Supposedly, the Bid for Power staff replaced the DBZ characters with their own original ones because FUNimation threatened to sue them. They showed the letter on their site and everything. What I always wondered was why did FUNimation supposedly attack Bid for Power, but left Earth's Special Forces alone?

Huh. I remember Bid For Power. Come to think of it, I think I was confusing BFP and ESF in my head...

Re: Earth's Special Forces
I know it's older than the internet, but I just discovered Bid for Power had a sequel called Bid for Speed where Dragon Ball characters were put back in. The character models and maps looked like the TRON version of Dragon Ball. o_o;

I remember Bid for Power. Damn, it woulda been awesome had Funi not got involved.

Moved from my other thread, I got "Labrie'd" lol, delete the old thread if possible.
a lot of people see this mod as old, however it is always changing, the quality of it has increased greatly every release and shows the skill these guys have developed over 8+ years. With script extenstions/plugins, the dev guys have pushed beyond the halflife 1 engines limits in graphic quality and sheer scale, turning it from a "me too" mod into a A+ grade example of contribution to the dragonball fan community.
I can't help but think that the sparking and raging blast game designs were influenced by this mod and bid for power, their massive popularity duing their earlier heydays must have been noticed by the japanese developers at least to some extent.

Wow, this is pretty darn impressive. The model for Vegeta is fantastic, espicially the hair. I can't wait to see how to handle the lightning of Super Saiyan 2.

Re: Earth's Special Forces
I remember being really impressed by this a long time ago. Then the Sparking series came out and it just looked like a more professional version of what they were trying to accomplish and I kind of forgot about it. I did like that running into flying mode thing in the Vegeta trailer though.

I heard about this years ago, but I always wanted to play it. Same with Bid for Power as well.
