Final Bout (PS1)
Haven't seen a topic on here specifically for this game and after reading the Beckett topic on the General Discussion page I decided to take the initiative and make one myself. There was a time in my life when there wasn't a single Dragonball fighter available in the states, and during the age of ten/eleven, all I ever wanted was Dragonball Final Bout. This game was constantly talked about in those Beckett magazines and I would enter every contest possible to try and win myself a copy.
Eventually, Dragonball Budokai came out and completely forgot about Final Bout. To this day, I have yet to play the game(though I have heard the terribly dubbed voice acting) and I was wondering if anyone on this site has the game. How does it play? How does it compare to games like Super DBZ, the Budokai series or even the Sparking games?

Re: Final Bout
Dude. Final Bout.
If it's the last thing you "bought" for the franchise, though, I wouldn't blame you.

Re: Final Bout (PS1)
To put it nicely, Final Bout felt like a very very rough prototype to the first Budoukai game. If you have any sort of nostalgia for it then it's fun to play for a little bit here and there, but any serious play of the game is going to be frustrating due to the awkward controls and sluggish response from the characters on-screen.
If you want it, you can find it online pretty easily nowadays. Just note that you shouldn't get yourself amp'd up for something fantastic.

Horrid game. Great for nostalgia though.

If it's that bad I'm not going to bother picking it up. However it's still disappointing to hear, Final Bout (btw, thanks for that VegettoEX) looked so awesome when I was younger.
Also, I'm not sure if this is true but I remember hearing somewhere that all the characters in the roster were picked by fans. If that's true, then I have to give them praise for doing something like that; I would have liked to take apart in that poll. It would be cool if Bandai did something like that again but on a much grander scale, people from all parts of the world can vote for their favorite(oh lets say 30) characters for the next console release. I love when games(or anything for that matter) try to get the fans involved.

Trust me, for the price you could get it now, and the nostalgia, it's a nice little item to have. Just to say that you have it.
Also, I hear you can unlock Gotenks and Pilaf

Re: Final Bout (PS1)
The game itself is pretty bad. However, it has best opening of ANY Dragon Ball game (in my opinion at least).
Re: Final Bout (PS1)
I'm in the minority but I think if you can get past some of the initial combat glitchiness it's a really fun game. A lot of the physical combos are ripped straight from the anime/manga. The characters have different post battle quotes and battle stances depending on how low their life is. There are multiple ways to pick yourself up from off of the ground (small detail but still kind of cool.) The KI blasts look pretty nice for the time. You can always tell what attacks they are supposed to be, unlike say Ultimate Battle 22. The character roster is decent if you can get over there being about 8 Gokus. People love the meteor smashes and beam struggles but I usually tend to turn them off.
The saddest part about the game is something really awesome could have come out of it but instead they rushed it out the door. I'd say if you have a couple bucks pick it up.

I picked up the English version at Game Exchange last weekend. (My Japanese-playable PS1 no longer works.
).
It's certainly neat in many ways, but the flaws?
Then again, it's more of a GT game.

- Ridiculously slow.
- The timing of stuns and attacks makes it possible to win a fight by doing a single basic attack over, and over, and over, and over (9000) again. Literally just sit there and press square for five minutes.
- The cast consists of Goku, Goku, Pan, Trunks, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Freeza, Cell, Buu, Goku, Goku, Trunks, Goku, Trunks, Goku, Goku, and Vegetto. I might have forgotten a Goku. And Baby.
Then again, it's more of a GT game.

I think we can all agree it's the (second) best DBGT game.
Oh, you think the Grand Tour is your ally, you merely stepped into the Grand Tour. I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the Super until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!

Re: Final Bout (PS1)
Final Bout is the bridge between Super Butoden 3 and Budokai 1. And it's like the Super Butoden 1 of the 3D gaming era. Slow, clunky, and reeking of lost potential thanks poor execution. It's not nearly as bad as, say, Taiketsu, but if you don't have any nostalgia for it, it's not really worth more than a rental (and only that for the Oozaru Bebi fight at the end, since he's closer to proper size than in the Sparking! games).

A GT game lacking major GT characters. Great.

Well, the original Japanese name was "Dragon Ball Final Bout" without the "GT".Silver Sinspawn wrote:A GT game lacking major GT characters. Great.

Raging Blast was a DBZ game, but was called DB:RB

Because of how similarly all the variations of Goku, young Goku, and Trunks played I consider the game to really have more like 12 characters, but that can still be respectable depending on what kind of fighting games you were used to at that point.
