"Dragon Soul" Dub Lyrics -- Posted by Sean Schemmel

Post by Kendamu » Wed Apr 28, 2010 6:38 pm

Seán Schemmel commented on The Sean Schemmel Fan Club's wall post:

"Here are the lyrics as sung by me, directly from Funimation, adapted by Brina Palencia Wingo:

Don’t stop, Don’t stop, we’re in luck now
Don’t stop, there’s so much to be found
We can find paradise
All we have to do is Go, go, free your soul!

Mysteries abound.. in this world.. that we will seek
Foes all around.. but I will go.. fearless and free
I’ll give you strength.. you give me love.. that’s how we’ll live
Courage won’t fade.. if you’re with me.. my enemies can never win

We will fight for love and glory
We will live to tell the story
There is nothing we can’t live through
Nothing ever dies; we will rise again!

Don’t stop, Don’t stop, we’re in luck now
Don’t stop, keep your spirit proud
And ride upon the wind
All we have to do is Go!

Don’t stop, Don’t stop, we’re in luck now
Don’t stop, there’s so much to be found
We can find paradise
All we have to do is Go Go, free your soul
Dragon Soul

If only they got somebody with actual singing talent to sing it.
Kentai wrote:Son Gokuu is a fascinating character anyway, because he is - at face value, anyway - an idiot savant. The victim of violent head trauma as an infant [...] he's a simple bumpkin with a fair share of brain damage who's natural talents to work out what's wrong compensate for his broad lack of common sense. But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

I wish he said "We Will Live To Tell A Story" instead of "We Will Live To Tell The Story".

Sean Schemmel sang this great, and I knew he sang other things, but never guessed he would do a Dragon Ball opening.

"A story" sounds like, "I'm gonna tell some random story." "The story" is a common way of putting it to let you know, "Cool stuff is going to happen and I'm gonna live to tell people about it."

I'd like to compare this to Kanzentai or Daizex's translation of the lyrics. I checked both sites, but could only find Kai's ending theme lyrics. :( Are the opening theme's lyrics around?

I dunno if this is what you're talking about or not, but I found this:

That's exactly what I was going to say. Lol. "A story" equals "some random story". "The story" means it's something more important.

From the shitty clip Schemmel's singing sounded pretty good. I really dig the lyrics!

Schemmel has a suitable singing voice, but I feel like they coulda' got a dude with some more pep. I'll reserve judgment till I hear the actual song though.

Aha! So it was free your soul! Has Schemmel stated why it is free your soul as opposed to let's do it seeing as it was already English?

Schemmel hasn't, but I have. Being a native English speaker, it's obvious to me that "Let's do it" (emphasis placed on the "it") is not how a native speaker of English would say that phrase; it sounds incredibly awkward. Now, if the song put emphasis on the second syllable, so, "Let's do it", it would not have been changed for FUNi's version. But since the song has the emphasis on the third syllable, there was nothing FUNi could do but simply change the line completely.

I see, well that makes complete sense - thanks.
