DB & DBGT Dragon Boxes?

Post by DrgnSprt5 » Fri Apr 30, 2010 1:17 am

Can anyone tell me if Funimation will be releasing Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT in the Dragon Box format? As a proud new owner of the Dragon Box Z sets I certainly hope so. For one, the current set is called "Dragon Box Z," with an emphasis on the "Z" (possibly hinting at other sets). However, I know that Funimation is still releasing their DB season sets, and when it comes to any DB release, their track record has been less than perfect.

Also, are the current DB and DBGT season sets remastered in the same fashion as the orange bricks or are they of Dragon Box quality?

Any insight into these matters is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We don't know about other DRAGONBOXes.
The other bricks have different "problems," though not as severe as orange/Z, and you can find them with a little searching on the forums.

I hope they release dragon boxes for both DB and GT, I mean it doesn't make any sense to just release dboxes for Z and the movies.

DBZ is still being released, please wait until around the last DBOX, I'm damned sure they'll release them in the order of the bricks.

Ugh, I hope not. I hope they do DB before they do GT. If not, at least it won't take long to get through GT at least. And I'd much rather them do GT first than not do them at all. But if they do save DB for last, it'll just make me scared they'll back out at the last second and not do it at all!

There's been no word on FUNimation releasing Dragon Ball and GT in Dragon Box format. They have only acquired the rights to the Z and Movies Dragon Box masters.

Remember we knew nothing about a DBOX release until just last summer, it was just out of the blue.
We didn't know about GT for awhile either and it was just a few months before it hit shelves.. so it's nothing new, we're only on box three so we probably won't hear anything until around box 5.

I've always been very sceptical about FUNi releasing the Dragon Ball and GT Dragon Boxes since we already have two quality releases (the blue and green box sets) which hardly anyone has complained out, unlike the orange box sets.

But yeah, it's possible that they might release them, but it is unlikely.

They are probably just waiting to see how well the Z DBOXes sell. Since Z is the big cash cow, if those don't sell well, then why would they release a dragon box of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT when they would most likely make less money?

I say, if you want a Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball GT Dragon Box, you should be buying the Z boxes, since the more sales Z boxes get, the more likely we'll get DB and DBGT variants ;D

If you look on the US Dragon Boxes you'll see copyright information about Dragon Ball Z AND Dragon Ball GT. I'm wondering if they'll move that GT preview to the end of the series, or if they're actually planning to do a GT box next.

I think you're looking too far into it.

I'd tend to agree with you, jjgp, they're covering all their eggs in one basket, but that's no garantee of a release.

Not saying there WON'T be a Dragon Box for DB and DBGT, but I am saying it's way too early to even begin to speculate on that, considering the Dragon Box's are a new thing still for DBZ.

Forget the DBGT box for a minute though, what about the preview? Can't it be possible that they moved the GT preview from the GT set to the Z set?

I'm afraid that might just be looking too deeply into it, as the original Japanese boxes were also called "Dragon Box Z" with the exact same logo. Plus, if anything, it preserves the "DBZ" acronym for the subject material.

I'd say it all depends on how well the Z Dragon Boxes sell. This will especially be a test with the release of Kai coming up this month.

I think they did that because Z was more well known and people will be more likely to buy it because of that. Kind of like how they added Z to Dragon Ball Kai.

I doubt it. So far, FUNimation has maintained a strict "we're not messing with it" policy with this release. In fact, didn't they specifically say as much when they announced it last year? "We didn't change a damned thing"? And I'm sure that was in reaction to the season sets where they put their dirty fingerprints all over them. So even if it's a Toei alteration or mistake, FUNimation isn't going to risk messing with anything this time around.

This statement would seem to mean that the Bardock and Trunk specials along with the Playdia special will be included in the Domestic Dragon Box Z's in some future volume.

I really hope they release the Dragonbox sets for the Dragonball series. As of now I have all the 2-disc saga sets for DB. And for the first 13 episodes I went ahead and got the blue brick digitally remastered season 1.

Do you think I should hold off on getting the rest of the blue season sets?
What do you think is better the 2-disc saga sets or the blue season sets?

In terms of video quality/encoding, the blue bricks are better. But since you already own the 2-disc sets, I wouldn't say it's better enough to warrant buying the whole thing all over again unless you just really have to own every single thing. Now a Dragon Box on the other hand, that would warrant a repurchasing...
