International Title Cards - Is It A Problem For You?

Basically I would love to know if people in other parts of the world have a problem with companies omitting Japanese title cards from their home releases. I only hear people complaining about FUNimation having English only title cards so I'm a bit curious...

I know Spain and Italy have pretty good dubs, do you guys get two title cards on your DVD's? If you just get the one in your language does it bother you?

The old Italian DVDs got the Italian title cards from the TV broadcast. The new (remastered) DVDs have the Japanese ones. Same goes for the Spanish DVDs (Japanese title cards).


I prefer the original Japanese title cards, but if the release is very good overall and only have customized title cards, I'd still buy it.

Personally, I'm the kinda guy who doesn't really care either way. Sure, it's nice (and slightly preferable, I suppose) that say... my Fullmetal Alchemist DVDs have both English and Japanese credits and title cards. But it doesn't bother me in the least that my One Piece DVDs only have English credits and title cards or that my Naruto DVDs have only Japanese credits and title cards.

As long as the title/credits is somewhat close to the original text (i.e. Kai's US release), or there's a translation of the original title SOMEWHERE on the DVD (like the spoken title being subbed on the DB/DBZ/DBGT Season Sets), then I'm fine with it.

But in all honesty, I'm just glad we get full, bilingual, uncut episodes at all. It's 2010, a title card change is considered nothing to me compared to hacked, cut-up footage, questionable localization, altered scripts, and music, and so on and so forth.

FUNimation's cards (at least on the orange bricks) were more or less identical to the japanese were they not, ignoring the dub's own episode titles? That was a nice feature that would have even been appreciated on the DBoxes, but either way it's of no real concern.

Can the same be said for the titles in other international dubs like the Italian and such? Or do they just cut out the title card and throw it in at the start of the episode, kind of like the Blue Water DBGT? Having that on a dvd set, however small a discrepancy, would probably tick me off.

Portuguese dub of DB and Z didn't have title cards at all, the announcer just called out the episode title at the beginning of the prologue. GT had Japanese title cards.

Spain's dub is shit, and it doesn't have title cards, either. Only the Italian dub does in all of Europe. DVDs have the Japanese title card, complete with the japanese narrator saying the episode title, even in the dub tracks.

Agreed. If the title cards are accurately translated and resemble the original, then I've got no problems with them.
