Should I be worried?
I recently read on the forum that Funimation only licensed 99 episodes of Kai and that the full run might consist of about 160 or so episodes; based on Funi's past record and relations with Toei, could we possibly see a hiatus and or cancellation of Kai when it gets to the point where they have to license the remaining episodes?
Re: Should I be worried?
99 Episodes has just been a long said number for Kai episodes, even in Japan. Unless Kai fails in America, which I severely doubt, Funi would renew any license as soon as possible.
RIDER KIIIIIIICK!
Re: Should I be worried?
The series will be longer than 99 episodes.
150 sounds more of an accurate guess.
I don't see why Funimation wouldn't licence the whole series.
If the sales of the Blu-Ray/Dvd volumes are good, then they would be fools not to continue.

I hope it sells well. Everyone hates the Kai but me.

I thought general opinion was mostly positive.
I can't speak for sales, but this refresh is a major boon for me, the pacing of the original series crippled it for me.

Eh, most people on this forum aren't big on Kai.Blue wrote:I hope it sells well. Everyone hates the Kai but me.
I absolutely love it, though. I'll be voting with my wallet on all releases.

I just like Kai for its gorgeous picture ^^. I think the pacing could be a tad slower, but I'm not hating it at all. I've been following Kai on Fuji since it aired.

It's still no Z, though.

I like Kai, I just prefer watching Z instead. I really miss the original music and certain filler.

Well, I like Kai, to a degree. The pacing is so much better than Z, cutting out a lot of needless padding.
But actually, I was pretty fond of the filler in the Saiyan arc, and I'm not a big fan of the mixing old with new art. That, and I prefer the Kikuchi soundtrack to the Yamamoto soundtrack.
I'm actually thinking of mixing and matching my experience in further viewings of Z. You know, watch Z for one arc, Kai for another, lol.

I find 'z' has good pacing for the Saiyan arc.penguintruth wrote: You know, watch Z for one arc, Kai for another, lol.
After that it gets pretty bad, in my opinion.

I couldn't have said it better myself. This is actually how I plan to buy Kai, starting with the second set rather than the first because I actually liked the Z version of the Saiya-jin arc but not the Freeza arc. Well and it's also when the insert songs start (I still can't wait to see how FUNimation will dub 'Over the Star') so it has the music side of me rather interested...penguintruth wrote:Well, I like Kai, to a degree. Re: Should I be worried?
Having skimmed over the "Marketing Of And Education About "Kai" Thread, I became even more worried of the prospect that the DVD/Blu-ray releases fall through and the series is ultimately cancelled... or at least the DVD/Blu-ray releases are... Are my concerns unfounded, or do they hold some merit?
Re: Should I be worried?
If this weren't Dragonball and it were, say Kodocha, I could understand. But, to be cliché, DragonBall prints money. Rest assured Kai will sell.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Heh, I liked Kai up until episode 16 or so, and after that not so much.ThegreatPirateKing wrote:I couldn't have said it better myself. That's like opposite to me.sangofe wrote: Heh, I liked Kai up until episode 16 or so, and after that not so much.
It was after episode 16, that it actually stated to become really worth it for me.
What with the awful pacing of the original Namek/Freeza saga.
