Why are you getting the Kai sets?
I'm intrigued, why do the various fans throughout the forum feel inclined to purchase and follow the Refresh throughout its U.S. run? (Syndication or otherwise)
I myself am looking forward more than anything, to the re-dub; being able to convey the original meaning in another language is definitely a plus personally.

Re: Why are you getting the Kai Sets? (NO SUB vs. DUB FLAMING)
1. I don't have it yet.
2. The English re-dub, while I'm not a fan of these particular actors as certain characters and have never liked the dubs, I can deal with this since they can actually act now and the script is better, and it's condensed, one reason I didn't like the dub was that it was hard to watch, and filler is hard to watch too, so that's like TWICE as hard to watch as this.
3. It's High Definition.
Those are my reasons... and they're probably the only reasons...
Unless you like Kai, I don't.

Re: Why are you getting the Kai Sets? (NO SUB vs. DUB FLAMING)
You don't need to specify "NO SUB vs. DUB FLAMING" in the subject. General flaming is not allowed in general, and if it happens, it is dealt with by the moderators. If a legitimate discussion involving the original Japanese version versus its English dub is relevant to the topic, though, it should be freely discussed.

Re: Why are you getting the Kai sets?
It is a new 'version' of the show with many new aspects to it.
I have purchased every other DB related thing that has come out, why stop now? Although I'm getting BR this time.
It's only 8 releases so it will be easy to complete.

Re: Why are you getting the Kai sets?
I'm getting it because I already have it.
But seriously, my interest in Japanese Kai is kind of meh. I mean, I'm getting the Dragon Boxes, so I've got a quality release for the Japanese version. But an improved dub with a much more accurate script, better voice direction, the actors having grown more skilled, original music from the start...This is the quality dub I've been waiting for. I mean, I liked several voices for a while now, but as a fan, I knew of many changes, and was just hopeful for this release.
Now all they need to do is redub Z for Blu-Ray Dragon Boxes later on, and Viz release an entire uncut run of the manga, and my fangasm will be complete.
So yeah, so far, a good time to be a DB fan.

I hate the Z portion of the anime because of the ridiculous padding/filler. This is far from perfect too but I'll take it over what we had originally.

DBZ was almost unwatchable for me at times due to horrible pacing problems and endless scene padding.
The re-recorded audio to replace the crappy 80s mono is a nice bonus too.

Re: Why are you getting the Kai sets?
The ONLY reason I am getting this is the, literately, newly English dub of a Dragon Ball product, also, it will be a little piece of history. If the dub wasn't so accurate then I would just stick to my Dragon Boxes. Awesome Japanese track and awesome visuals.

When I eventually get some of this (Dragon Boxes take priority), it'll be entirely because of the new English dub of the material. Finally having an accurate English dub of this material is reason enough to support it.

Re: Why are you getting the Kai sets?
With a lot of revelations about many old naming schemes being kept, whether it's to sync up with FUNi's dubs of Dragon Ball and GT or sheer lack of care, I'll be waiting for the price point to drop. However, due to the tight scripting going on, I will eventually get them to show my support that far.

Actually, it seems likely to be due to Trademark reasoning. But, aside that, it's been good thus far.

Re: Why are you getting the Kai sets?
1. Still don't own the series on DVD. I've got all the movies (minus Blood Rubies, but I'll be getting that this summer) and the first two orange bricks, but I'm just not a big enough fan to deal with countless overpriced rerelease after rerelease. Especially since I've got the manga in the meantime.
2. I have yet to have any inclination to give the dub a try unless it's airing on TV. It's just so BAD, IMO, and it drives me nuts that an 100% accurate version (compared to other FUNI dubs, let alone dubs in general) has yet to come out. However, I have younger cousins who are now getting into the series that just don't enjoy having to ''read television'', so the fact that Kai actually has an accurate dub is actually a plus for me.
3. I hate 90% of the filler (which is ironic because I love the movies and plan on getting GT one day). Kai's filler free.

Re: Why are you getting the Kai sets?
I'm not. I loathe Kai and its overall presentation. From its sloppy editing to generic music to the fact that you just don't chop up and old show and expect it to run smoothly in the first place.
If and when I pick this up, it will be solely for the new English dub. Unlike Kai itself, it seems like a great deal of effort and care was placed into that. And at this point, an accurate English dub is something of a novelty that I just have to see eventually.

Re: Why are you getting the Kai sets?
Interesting. I'm also not, but it's for basically the opposite reason of Cipher here. The English dub, no matter how good it is, has absolutely no impact on whether or not I purchase it. I've seen clips of it, and I've been impressed, but those clips have been enough to satiate my curiosity. It wouldn't be what I'd be watching if I did buy it, so... meh.
Conversely, Kai itself is a novelty to me. I like the concept, and I enjoy catching it from time to time, but it's not enough to make me rebuy the series. Since I really only have the discretionary income for one Dragon Ball-related purchase, it's gotta be the DBoxes, no-brainer.

Re: Why are you getting the Kai sets?
Because Dragon Ball Kai is the best anime I've ever seen. Z was already cash but the condensed scenes, spectacular music (There are seriously people that don't like it? I guess they don't like the video game OSTs either), and amazing new dub make it even better. Kai is everything I could've dreamt for and more! The only way it could be better is if I directed it (I'll have to make my own version of the series one day)! The only qualm with the series I have is some of the re-traced artwork and how down played the SSJ transformation is compared to Z's, which is intense. Still, these will definitely be the DVDs/BDs of the year for me.

1. It's on Blu-ray.
2. The new dub intrigues me!
3. It's a quicker fix in terms of less filler.
4. I'm a completionist when it comes to Dragonball.

Really? You can get 42 DBox episodes for about 35 bucks now and that's overpriced?Dayspring wrote:I'm just not a big enough fan to deal with countless overpriced rerelease after rerelease.
I get the rerelease thing, but other than Kai, which you may prefer since you said you dislike filler, I really don't think DBZ will be released on DVD again, cause we have the best version now.
