Underrated Scenes
I noticed a thread for over rated scenes so what do we all think is a brilliant scene or scenes that are neglected and why.
For me it's the Garlic Jr filler. I know a lot of people bash it but I enjoy it whenever I put it on. And it can claim the winner of "scariest scene when I was a kid" for the cats scene with the couple (creeped me out). It also had a decent villain and gave Kurrin, Gohan and Piccolo a chance to shine.

Re: Underrated Scenes
Two underrated scenes is when Goku is reunited with his dead grandpa & when Goku finds Kuririn dead, which were truly emotional moments for Dragon Ball, and aren't held as high in regard as "emotional" moments that thrive on melodrama, such as Piccolo's sacrifice or Vegeta's sacrifice.

The first Yamcha and Tenshinhan fight, that has some of the better animation in the series plus an awesome insert song.

Re: Underrated Scenes
That whole arc had some pretty kick ass animation. Back then, they knew when to hold and play their cards, as far as the budget goes. The filler was really good in that segment too. Everything about the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai was great.
Re: Underrated Scenes
Yeah, the Yamcha v. Tenshinhan fight was gorgeous looking when I took a gander at it recently. It amazes me how that could be done on a weekly TV show's budget...
Re: Underrated Scenes
Again Yamcha vs Tenshinhan, showed real technical fighting aswell.
Re: Underrated Scenes
In Garlic Jr saga,i liked that teacher episode,i really feeled sorry for Chi-Chi and Gohan, when they had to listen bad things about Goku.Althrough, after Chi-Chi talked with teacher,he probably wont dare say it again

I enjoyed the extended Kuririn and Gohan run away from Dodoria scene. It just felt a lot more intense.

The scene in DragonBall where Tien is searching for a dragonball and he goes to the house of someone he had beaten up before and Tien offered to let the man break an arm or two for his dragonball.

No one ever seems to talk about Goku and Tullece's 'Western style' standoff at the end of movie 6. I love that scene so much.

Isn't Tullece in movie 3?DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:No one ever seems to talk about Goku and Tullece's 'Western style' standoff at the end of movie 6. I love that scene so much.

If we're referring to Dragon Ball Z then yes it's movie 3. But if it's just Dragon Ball movies in general then technically it would be movie 6.Kiyza wrote:Isn't Tullece in movie 3?DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:No one ever seems to talk about Goku and Tullece's 'Western style' standoff at the end of movie 6. Re: Underrated Scenes
One that comes to mind was partly anime filler, but I personally believe it was executed much more effectively than in the manga; it's in the Android Arc when Goku finally recovers from his illness. It was one of the most affectionate Goku x Chichi moment in the series, and definitely my favorite.
In the anime, Goku was missing from his room, Chichi and Roshi soon find him outside practicing his Kamehameha. The couple embrace, with Goku inadvertently throwing her 30 feet in the air, after which Goku reveals his intent of going beyond Super Saiyan. He contemplatively stares out into the sea while Chichi and Roshi look on in bewilderment as the suspense builds up, concluding the episode. Back in the house, Goku prepares to leave and asserts taking Gohan along in his training when it looks as if Chichi is about to throw out her usual hissy fit, but probably for the first time ever she actually condones his actions. While Roshi clumsily chases after a loose doorknob, the couple are implied to have kissed, although the camera inopportunely cuts towards the perverted hermit, who had a much better view than we did.
The scene was memorable to me because it managed to make light of the dire times they were in, Goku returning to action was something everyone was anticipating for and immediately came off as a sign of hope. Along with addressing the seriousness of the situation, it also mixed in some comedy and romance at the same time. Whereas in the manga it was more rushed and abrupt, the anime delved into something Toriyama rarely touched upon, which was Goku & Chichi's relationship. For that one moment, they actually looked like how a real husband and wife should, and Chichi actually became a more rational and tolerable character; normally she annoys the heck out of me. The art was done well, the music was suitably fitting with the mood, overall, I just loved that scene.

Re: Underrated Scenes
My most underrated scene would have to be Goku's reunion with his dead grandfather at Uranai Baba's tournament. I don't think it's as underrated as some of the other scenes you guys mentioned, but I rarely see it brought up on forums etc.

Re: Underrated Scenes
It's anime filler, but the scene when Gohan runs home after being with the orphans, and stops just outside, only to turn around, encountering Piccolo who makes him tell him his mission. It's a great scene that shows the determination of Gohan to become strong enough to defend the world when the Saiyans arrive. It's one of my favorite scenes of the show.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Re: Underrated Scenes
I suppose if I had to limit it down to a scene and not episodes it would have to be (I'm not sure if it's mentioned a lot as popular but I haven't seen it anywhere) is when Goku tells Bulma and the others that Vegeta and Gohan are dead. I always find that scene poignant. Or there's the Boo and Mr Satan bonding which I'm fond of but to me it seems anything with his character is bad to most people.

Another underrated scene is when Goku finally realizes that HE is responsible for his grandfather's death during the Vegeta fight.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:My most underrated scene would have to be Goku's reunion with his dead grandfather at Uranai Baba's tournament. True. That scene is probably more underated than mine, but less heartfelt.Bura wrote: Another underrated scene is when Goku finally realizes that HE is responsible for his grandfather's death during the Vegeta fight.
Re: Underrated Scenes
I was watching the second Dragon Box the other day and came across a small scene that I thought was beautifully done in the anime: the characters entering Freeza's ship to heal Goku.
Vegeta, who still can't be trusted, descends down the top hatch into darkness with this really calm, eerie music. And then all the characters walk through the empty halls littered with the dead soldiers he killed earlier. The entire thing is really dire, and seeing them stroll through Freeza's wrecked ship really drives home the fact that, somehow, you're finally approaching the conclusion to the arc. The scene and music end with Vegeta stepping on and crushing one of the soldier's blasters.
Probably one of the best calm-before-the-storm moments in the entire series, and I'd totally forgotten it existed.

Re: Underrated Scenes
The battle between Vegeta and Recoome is really amazing and doesn't get enough praise, and I also enjoy pretty much all of the filler that involved Gohan in the Saiyan arc.
