Losing interest...
Lately I have found myself loosing somewhat interest in series. When the north american dragon box(es) were first announced, I was very excited about the news and began selling anything I could in order to come up with the money. In the end I managed to make a little over $500. I do enjoy both anime and video games very much but I see myself spending the money on a ps3 instead of the dboxes.
The way I look at it, if I go with the ps3 I get the online play which brings lots of replay value (which is not only reason I would go with the ps3) I mean, how many times can I watch the series before I start to get bored with it.
Have you ever found yourself losing interest in the series?

Re: Losing interest...
I feel a little spoiled by the shiny newness of the Jump Tour special and the so-awful-I-can't-look-away train-wreck that was the Hollywood live action movie. It's so hard to go back to earlier eagerness sometimes now.
Like, I'm jumping on any new plot-related information from DBO (Gohan writing a book? Goten and Trunks starting a sword/martial arts school? Future Trunks creates a Time Patrol? I'm SO there!) just because it's NEW and interesting.
I'm thrilled about that 30 minutes of new animation that's coming to one of the videogames. I follow Kai, but I'm mostly interested in seeing what little new from-scratch animation pops up (OP, eyecatch, and ED stuff). And seeing how they edit episodes together.
Also, some variety in the console videogames would help; I loved "Attack of the Saiyans" and played it for nearly 6 months, way longer than I played "Burst Limit". I didn't even buy "Raging Blast" and not doing so is really unlike what a younger me would've done. (Younger me bought every PS2 dbz console game as it came out).
The only thing that hasn't wilted on me any db-wise is that I still love drawing the characters and my favorite characters are still exactly that.
What's funny is I know if they announced something really big that was animated from scratch (another Jump Tour special or an animated movie) my interest in the series would heighten back up to where it used to be all over again.

On hiatus.

Yeah, mainly due to the fandom. I had to take a break and come back.

Re: Losing interest...
It happens on occasions, just distance yourself from it for a while and come back later. Not just with Dragon Ball, but I've experienced this with various other series. Too much of it can burn you out, especially when there's nothing majorly new coming. For example, I watched Digimon as a kid. All four of the original seasons, but once Frontier ended, I dropped out of it.
A few years later, I picked up "Digimon: The Movie" on DVD which renewed my interest somewhat to the point where I decided to seek out fansubs and found all of Digimon Frontier subtitled, soon to be followed by the debut of Digimon Savers. I watched all of Savers, and then the "Digimon Data Squad" dub, then Digimon fell from my radar again.
Recently now though, I've started watching the first season, Digimon Adventure in Japanese.
I've gone through similar on-again, off-again phases with Dragon Ball too, but those are a little more difficult to pinpoint on a timeline.

When my site shutdown in 2002, I was already getting burned out on it and wanted to move onto other things.
I still kept tabs on the news and such, but I felt my interest coming back in 2006 when I was interviewed on the Daizex podcast.

Re: Losing interest...
I've got a very small attention span, I'm not gonna lie.
I find myself constantly going through "phases" of what I'm interested in, and what I'm not. All my different hobbies seem to come back one after another and I'll find myself listening to Dragon Ball music, reading the manga and playing Burst Limit when I'm really into it, but a few days later I'll throw on my Zelda playlist (for example), then start playing Zelda games, reading the manga etc.
I always "lose interest" in Dragon Ball for a short while, but when something big happens, I usually come running back.

Re: Losing interest...
This happened to me around 2005. I still bought the remaining movies in 2006 just to complete my collection, but I really didn't care that much for Dragon ball at that point anymore. I didn't even know about the remastered sets until my friend told me about them a before Season 1 came out, and I figured I might as well get it just to see the episodes I missed from the UUC volumes, and then after that I started getting back into the show.

I used to lose interest for a while and then randomly regain it later, but oddly, since becoming active in this community, my interest has really stuck. But yeah, nothing wrong with taking a break.

Re: Losing interest...
My interest goes up and down really, sometimes I don't wanna talk about it, sometimes it's all I talk about.
I'd say my interest is at it's strongest now since all I'm buying (or at least planning to buy) is Dragon Ball stuff.

Re: Losing interest...
In my ten year long Dragonball fandom, I have had lots of ups and downs. When I finally completed reading the manga, I was 5 years into my fandom, and I soon lost interest.
It bloomed once again 2 years after that, and since then it has been on and off.
If it wasn't for this forum, it would never have bloomed up again, since discussing powerlevels and Vegeta>Gohan>Kuririn on all the other forums isn't that inspiring.

Re: Losing interest...
This is normal. It happens with everyone. You loss interest in something and kinda forget about it for a while, and then something reminds you of it or happens to think about it again. Take me for an example...
My fandoms consists of:
- Dragon Ball
- Journey to the West
- Ninja & Samurai
- Giant Robots
- Giant Monsters
- Dinosaurs
My #1 fandom in the current time is Giant Robots and everything goes with it like figures, games and theme songs. Mazinger Z, Grendizer, Getter Robo, Gundam and Evangelion are my top ones. And Dragon Ball comes next. I used to be a JTTW fan for quite a while, but I'm not interested as I used to be.
But it'll be a matter of time when I get to something else and get to be my #1 interest. There was a time when I used a ninja-crazed teenager ((Hence my username)) and yes, I used to be a Narutard. But I'm not that interested in it nowadays.
I guess when you get to know something better and enjoy it for a good amount of time, makes you loss interest in it as the time goes and your curiosity fades more and more to the point where you loss interest in it completely.

Re: Losing interest...
Completely lost interest as of late. The Kai dub is the only thing that's raised an eyebrow from me in the past few months, really. It's nice that cool shit is happening and we're finally getting the releases we've wanted for years and all that, but I can't really bring myself to be terribly excited about it at the moment. Maybe that'll change at some point.

Re: Losing interest...
To be really honest, I don't enjoy / have any interest in Dragon Ball as much as I used to. As in: unlike in the past, where I would JUMP anything DB-related, now I feel rather "meh"-ish about most of it. Still haven't watched anything Kai-related nor do I especially want to, haven't seen the live-action movie (for better or for worse, probably the first), I didn't care in the slightest for any game since Burst Limit, just...bleh.
That said, I still enjoy the core series. I'm still collecting the Dragon Box sets and Kanzenban releases (which after 3 months of dead silence surrounding their releases I still hope are alive), respectively watch and read the stuff during my study breaks and so forth, and overall I still have fond feelings for the series. It's just not really all that active an interest, so to speak. (Look at how many posts I made since I got registered.)
I think though, that in the back of my mind, I'll never fully lose my interest in the series.

Re: Losing interest...
I'm a little surprised at how many people are surprised by their sudden lack of inclination to buy/watch every last product with the Dragon Ball name on it. I've never felt obligated to sit down and watch Kai on a weekly basis, and when I do, I hate it. I pick and choose among the video-games and look for one that's better than shovelware with a DB logo on it. I never even considered owning the entire anime until the Dragon Boxes, Blue Bricks, and Green Bricks became available. To this day, I have not read the entire manga (although I have seen the entire anime in one form or another). There are weeks and months when I don't have an overwhelming interest in watching it, and those where I do.
Despite all that, I'd never consider myself anything less than a die-hard fan of the series. No matter what my involvement with it at any one point is, I know I can always come back and really, really enjoy it.

Re: Losing interest...
I'd quote for truth, but, really, what's the point?
But, yeah, I'm the same way. Honestly, it was a bit odd for me to get used to when I first started posting here how many users seemed compelled to buy every single last product that was released. While I do own all of the manga, I never thought about owning the whole TV series until the DBoxes happened. As a kid, I bought a lot of the figures, but that hasn't happened in over ten years at this point. I got the first three Budoukai games, played the first one quite a bit but barely touched the next two and haven't bought a DB game since then. The DBoxes did substantially revitalize my interest in the series but hasn't encouraged me to start owning all the merchandise. I feel myself to be a very "hardcore" fan, but it's all I can do, purchase-wise, right now to just keep up with the DBoxes, which is a purchasing priority for me primarily to help get across the notion to FUNimation that this should be a template for all their releases.

Re: Losing interest...
To be quite quite honest, this site is one of the main things that keeps my interest in the series. If I wasn't listening to the podcast every week, posting on these boards, and checking the home page on Daizenshuu EX every day, I would probably be dwelling within some other fandom of mine.
One aspect of my fandom that's died though is watching Kai every week. I just couldn't bring myself to watch it this week for some reason.

I keep my interests spread out so I won't get burned out on any one thing.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Re: Losing interest...
I lost interest when I was 7 as DBZ had just been taken off the air but when I was 9 DBZ, along with all new Dragon Ball came back to Toonami due to popular demand. I started watching it again as I had forgotten a lot about the series and I hadn't actually watched it consistently before. My interest came back into full swing later that year when I discovered 'DBZ Movie 12' was coming out on DVD. A little later our 'Sattelite TV' got removed in exchange for Broadband so my only way to watch DBZ was to rent DVDs. Later on I decided to look at the DBZ Movies I had missed out on over the years on the net, along with that I discovered a lot of new information and cool merchandise. Now I'm a huge fan but since I'm quite a recent one I don't think I'll be losing interest any time soon.
