Do you feel old yet?

Post by Dayspring » Wed Jun 02, 2010 8:35 pm

I just did the math and realized I've been a fan for 15 or 16 years now. That's 2/3 of my entire life. I feel old now. Do you?

EDIT: Just to be clear, this is a thread regarding how long you've been a fan and how you feel about that.

Fan for... I think 14 years, now? Exactly half of my life. You've got a little bit on me, Dayspring. I feel slightly less old. Thanks!

It gets slightly worse when I realize I've been running this website for 12 of those years, though.

Kinda. 11 years for me. And I'll tell ya, as atrocious as Season 3 is in retrospect, when I was a kid it was the coolest thing in the world. I miss those days (of my life, not for DBZ).
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

I've been a fan for 10 or 11 years. So... half my life.

I turned 20 on Tuesday, so I feel pretty old anyway. 10 years is a long time to be a fan of something even for me, I usually move on to something else.

Creeping up on 9 years coming July. Half of my life. Don't necessarily feel old; more dazed at how it all feels like a blur. Time waits for no one, man.

I've been a fan for 9 years. Basically half of my life.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

13 years I've been a fan... how do I feel about it?

I feel that I've been the same as I was 13 years ago, waiting for anything new to come out, and to continue obtaining and buying Dragonball stuff. From watching the Ocean dub over and over again, knowing it was gonna end at the same episode where Jheese and Butta were attacking Goku, to watching the Jump Anime Special to now owning the first half of the Dragonball saga in manga form, I'm very happy as a fan. That's how I feel.

I will continue to enjoy this show, and one day show my kids this show so that they can hopefully become fans as well.

I think Tom Dubois of "The Boondocks" said it best for me when FUNimation announced the release of the domestic Dragonbox, after buying all of the Season Sets: "MOTHERFUCK!!! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT, PRICKS, SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIIIIIIIT!"

Every day I wake up and realise that I am ageing. It's quite sad, especially when I fondly look back on high school years.
Sure the days of education aren't over, still got university to plough through, but it just doesn't feel the same. Even when Dragon Ball is concerned, I can't seem to look at it as innocently as I could back then, everything I do regarding Dragon Ball just feels so much more critical, like I'm analysing, more than I am just purely enjoying.

..Fuck you Dayspring, you got me. Gonna' play some Budokai 3 and weep.

You became a fan at age four? Can four-year-olds comprehend anything?

It'll be 10 years this late summer/fall. While that doesn't make me feel old, other things do.
On hiatus.

I've been a fan since about 1997, so 13 years? At 24, that's slightly more than half my life.

Will be 12 years this fall, so right at half my life. And as atrocious as season 3 looks in retrospect... it seemed just as horrible when I was 13... still excitedly lapped it up, though, as I was already a fan by that point. =P

Well, I've been a fan for about 10 years now, and I'm 16.... That's more than half my life wasted on the show that I love so much! :)
Just another Dragon Ball fangirl in the world.

DB & Tiger and Bunny are my main fandoms, along with many other animes.

Oh, come on! You were part of the Ranchi/Kushami crowd! I didn't even know those forum...webring...thingies existed until after the "truth" was learned! O'course, that's more an internet thing than a DB thing, but still! You have to have been a fan longer than me! It's a rule! :x

I can't believe only one person so far has been a fan longer than me (and I feel selfishly better knowing it was for a period longer than the entirety of my life :P). I knew I'd be up there, but I thought for sure EX and his entourage would be at least on par with me.

@Rory: Don't blame me, blame the education. :P
But yeah, a university degree in English has also changed my appreciation for the story, but I think in a way that helped maintain my fandom all these years. I've grown to love a good story more than I did when I first became a fan.

Hmmm, it was around 1998 on that fateful day when I started watching Dragonball Z on Toonami. It's 2010 now. That's 12 years.

How do I feel? Well I'm not AS into Dragonball Z as I was *back in the day* but I'm still a fan. If I was a 24/7 Dragonball fan, I would probably go insane. I would like to keep my sanity intact. :P
Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!

Fan of Dragon Ball Z and various other Anime since '98! ^^

I've been a fan since the fall of 1998, so I'd say sometimes I do. Reading the comments from new viewers that I do over on Toon Zone in our Kai Nicktoons Broadcast talkbacks does sort of lift the ol' spirit up, though. Even in the frostbitten world of bitter old age a beautiful blossom of new fans blooms...

Well I think I may be the youngest here...I got into the show when I was 11 and I am 15 now. So I have been a fan for 5 years now!
