Obviously he's going to name it after his favorite DB villain, Baby!

But lame jokes aside, congratulations Julian!

Why weren't we told that she was pregnant months ago...?
Anyway, congrats!
Mike, you need to tell us if something like this happens.

Great overall episode and congrats to Julian! Mike, I read your Shoko-tan 3 review and I didn't see any mention of the Yu Yu Hakusho opening theme cover. Are you a fan of the series? Do you think she did the song justice?

Because we have a right not to share every little detail of our lives on the internet? Besides, pregnancies can (and do) often go wrong. Speaking as a first-time father, I was terrified that something would happen and didn't want to jinx it.

Thanks, though. Two weeks down, 18-plus years to go...

OBVIOUSLY you lot haven't been following Mr. Julian's twitter like ME! If you were TRUE Dragon Ball fans you'd be doing this.
: DragonSmug :

That's one cute baby, wanna meet that baby! Is she going to guest on the podcast eventually?

Also congratulations. I'm going to go ahead and call her Julian Jr.

I think I may be responsible for the confusion about the term “land shark”. On Kanzentai, that’s how I translate jiage-ya (literally “land raisers”; sometimes chiage-ya), a term the daizenshuu uses to refer to Freeza and co. Outside of DB, the term generally refers to unscrupulous land speculators of the sort prevalent during Japan’s Bubble economy. During the Bubble, there was a lot of effort to redevelop major cities, but large-scale development projects tended to run into difficulties due to issues of land rights. So major real estate companies would commission these jiage-ya, who were mainly gangsters, to use strong-arm tactics to buy up land. In his Daizenshuu 2 interview, Toriyama says these land sharks during the Bubble were his inspiration for Freeza.

As for why I use the translation “land shark”: well, I got it from here, and I thought it sounded cool. It’s essentially a take-off of “loan shark”, so I thought people would be able to understand its basic meaning from that. I considered putting a note about the term somewhere in my daizenshuu translations, but never got around to it. Might have been a good idea, in retrospect.

See, all I could think of was the SNL sketch.

Holy black on a Popo, Julian's a dad. I've been visiting the site since he was in high school, and now I feel really old for some reason.

Also, as the Creepy Love Letter Guy, I feel hurt, betrayed and suicidal.
