2 General Questions

Post by Ultimate_DB_Fan » Thu Jun 24, 2010 8:29 pm

I was watching some Buu arc episodes today and a few things popped up in my head...

My first question, for anybody willing to answer, is do you think it was a missed opportunity in having Krillin and Piccolo turned to stone? I always think about the what-if scenario where the both of them went into Babidi's spaceship. Sure, Goku and company save the day so to speak and beat everyone who comes in their paths, but I think it would've been very interesting if Krillin and Piccolo actually went with them inside. Piccolo vs. Yakon, perhaps?

My second question is, are there any members here who just can't stand Goten and Trunks? For me, the answer's definitely yes. I mean, Dragon Ball is already a kids show, so the inclusion of those two makes that even more apparent. They really, really ruin the Buu saga for me, and their appearance in movies 10 and 11 are what makes those two my least favorite out of all 13.

Cheers!

Goten and Trunks were overpowered imo, but I enjoyed their fight together and against #18. Gotenks was silly too, but enjoyable. Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack FTW

I actually did like Goten and Trunks precisely because they WERE children. It was really the first time the series showed children who acted like children who were blessed with superpowers without any kind of responsibility would actually act. Goku and Kuririn looked like children but were teenagers, and while Goku was naive, he was very responsible and dilligent when he came to martial arts. Gohan was super intelligent and mature to begin with (although tempered by how coddled he initially was), and he grew up exclusively around adults. So I liked the way Goten and Trunks were handled by comparison, and it certainly made sense why they were the way they were.

The whole "Mighty Mask" deal is really overkill and not in the least one bit funny. I understand filler, but come on... It's even worse than the Bulma and the crab stuff. It does get a little better when Goten and Trunks fight #18, though.

Well they were kids. Gohan was smart, Goten was stupid. That's why Gohan didn't come across as childish.

This could be one of the countless baseless rumors that has flooded Dragon Ball fandom, but I've read that Piccolo was Toriyama's original pick to be Majin'd so we would've had another Goku vs. Demon King Piccolo fight, but for some reason or another, he went with Vegeta.

Personally, while the Majin Vegeta thing works just fine and has nice character development for Vegeta, Majin Piccolo would have been epic. How would Vegeta react to "the Namek" suddenly being so much more powerful than him? How would Gohan of all people react? Would Piccolo be just a screaming dolt as in the Garlic Jr. arc, silent & brutal as in The World's Strongest, or would he have been calculating and cunning like he was in Piccolo Daimao or 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai arcs?

I think it would've been interesting.

 I never thought about having Piccolo become Majin instead of Vegeta... You make great points there. That could've been AMAZING!

Why's that? You wouldn't just accept it if Toriyama had someone state that the Majin state came with some amazingly significant power-up combined with Piccolo's former demon heritage/godly powers? I mean, this is pretty basic stuff for this series. You can always come up with some ass-pull justification for why someone's strong enough. I actually wish Toriyama had used it more often. It could have kept the human characters relevant.

Can you sorta remember where you read that? That's very interesting and makes you wonder about the next big question; Would the Majin power-up really bring Piccolo to the levels of both Goku and Vegeta? I don't count Gohan, 'cause he became de-powered for seven years after the Cell games.

The whole Majin Piccolo thing sounds really interesting. I've never heard that rumor before actually. Goku vs. Majin Vegeta was an okay match, but Goku vs. Majin Piccolo would've made that arc even better in my opinion. Heck, even Majin Tenshinhan would've been incredible (given, he wasn't with them at that point, but still...).

That's not necessarily a bad thing. For me, the inclusion of these two brought back some of the fun and humor that had been missing from the previous few arcs.

Mystic Yamcha beating Buu in his yellow pimp would be a true visual treat.

That's right, I forgot about that. You see, it's been a while since I've watched that arc... :(

Man, do I feel stupid after typing that...U_U

I liked Majin Vegeta. It just seemed lame that after the fight it was all "Yeah I'm good again." If it were something more of the lines of him sensing Buu attacking Kid Trunks, it probably would have been more acceptable. But bleh...

BTW I love your Gohan avatar.

Majin Yajirobe could have worked he must have had at least some frustration from not being taken seriosly by the other Z fighters. Also Majin Yamcha could have worked. Yamcha must be a little angry Vegeta stole his girlfriend. it would have been cool if he reverted back to being a like a bandit. Majin Tienshinhan would have been cool.
