Dragonball GT: not so bad after all

Post by songohan619 » Sun Jul 11, 2010 3:36 pm

Hello, Daizenshuu EX forums.
I am Songohan619, and this is my first ever post:
Dragonball GT:
Not so bad after all.

In almost every Dragonball community, people complain about Dragonball GT, and they say things like:
"It's too short!!!!"
"The fights are too boring, and not fast enough."
"The story sucks."
And so on.

So, I will tell you my thoughts:

1. People complain about Dragonball GT`s length.
The recent Dragonball Kai, which will follow the original manga more than the original anime did, is said to be about 150 episodes.
But, Dragonball Kai still does have filler. So, without any filler, let's say 125 episodes.
Let's see... 64 episodes compared to 125 episodes. Certainly sounds better than 64 to 291, right?
Then we have the original Dragonball anime, which has 153 episodes.
If that would have been shortened down, we would have about 70 episodes, I guess.
Now, Dragonball GT doesn't seem that bad. :)
Also, the Dragonball GT story was made completely by Toei, because this time, they did not have a manga to follow, which of course was making the production of GT harder.

2. The story isn't as good as the other series.
Well, as I said above, GT did not have a manga to follow, so, like the filler, sometimes plotholes and boring stories would appear. :?
Also, people have been complaining about the amount of humor.
Well, this is, I think, a try to get back to the original Dragonball series, where the fights were not the biggest deals all the time.
Thank you for reading this.

Length has almost nothing to with bland writing.

I feel sorry for whomever has to apply the red text to that post. We've been having a LOT of "I love GT suck it" threads lately.I wonder if that has anything to do with the semi-new green bricks. Anyway I don't mind GT with the exception of the Super 17 saga. Literally the worst saga I have ever watched in the entirety of the 3 series.

Same here. The Super 17 saga is just too short and kinda boring. Other than that GT's alright.

I never found GT to be as terrible as others have said. The only thing I dislike about GT is that it mostly focuses on Goku, Pan, and Trunks at the beginning, and then the new art design (plus Vegeta's terrible haircut).

DBGT would have been twice better if it didn't screw Vegeta.

Or any other character. Yes, even Goku is screwed on DBGT. Making him TOEI itself isn't exactly good for the show.

Just so that this is clear: I do not love Dragonball GT. I just wanted to speak about the hatred against GT.
Also, when you guys complain about Vegeta, as well as other characters changing, did you really think all the characters would look the same all the time? Vegeta adapted to a peaceful life on Earth, and so it happened.
People change.
Also, the length of DBGT is about the writing. If you write a short story, the book will be short. If you make a long movie script, the movie will last longer.
And so on.
I do not say that GT was badly written.

No, the *writing*. As in, the plot. As in, what happened in sequential order. It can be as long or short as it wants, the details of GT, if recollected onto a sheet of paper, are dumb and only slightly interesting at best.

And, you didn't have to say it was badly written; I said that. You said "GT wasn't so bad!" and I disagreed.

Oops, sorry.
I think some of the stories in GT are bad), but hey, we are talking about the same guys who wrote the filler in DB and DBZ.

Is that so surprising? Two truths:

1. The fanbase continuously tells newcomers to avoid or get ready to hate GT.

2. It's actually incredibly entertaining.

So nearly every time a new fan finally does end up ignoring the advise and watches it, they feel compelled to ask "Why exactly was I warned about this again?" Which is a fair question. I have much love for GT, even if a good chunk of it lies in the art and music. Whatever the series lacks in its writing, it makes up for with style. And fun.

No, it isn't. Looking against a white wall is more entertaining than DBGT is.

Sir, I would love to see the kind of white walls which you apparently surround yourself with.

Every character in GT was ruined in about 3 episodes. The pathetic excuses for choreography GT had coupled with the massive plot holes didn't help, either.

There is one episode of GT that I think everyone likes, 64.

I really enjoyed the last two seasons of GT, the first two were horrible though.

Originally, Funi skipped the first 16 episodes of GT because they didn't have enough ACKSHUN, replaced them with a one-episode "recap" showing the story up to that point, then released them later as "The Lost Episodes", when they were never really lost to begin with.
