Audio Replacement in the Budokai games.

Post by Jord » Sat Jan 15, 2005 9:14 am

When EX posted his ripped files of the Budokai 3 game, it made me think. There are just as many American as there are Japanese sound files on the PS2 disc. (Cell's voice and the leftover B3 soundfiles come to mind)
Would it be possible to replace the Funi voices with the Japanese ones if you have the right tools, both discs and a modded PS2. Since the translations are pretty accurate since Budokai 2, it seems like a good idea, combining the speech with English subs.

The only problem(s) I see with it is that:

- I haven't compared EVERY sound file to see if they ALL perfectly line up with the same numbering system

- I've only been able to successfully decode the one sound zip; the one I can't seem to do anything with is the one with the actual in-game, fighting sounds

In theory, you should be able to make your own custom soundtrack pretty easily :). There are plenty of tools to demux and remux ADX audio (it's cake once you know what you're doing), and would just be a matter of getting the right files.

EX, didn't they mention on the bonus DVD that the American version's script is made and sets the guidelines for the Japanese one? If so, all files should be parallel right?

I found the in-game fighting sounds not long ago, they were something like ADX_usa_200-500

I now found out how you can replace game sounds, but I learned that after replacement you need to build an .IML file out of the scrambled files. Porblem is, the famous $ony tool doesn't work on XP. Anybody else has an solution? Keep in mind, what I'm doing now IS legal. I took a LEGAL copy of Smackdown and I'm just putting in other music tracks for the entrances to see how his replacing workst. The music tracks come from CD's I LEGALLY bought.
