NEKO MAJIN and DRAGONBALL

Post by Patrickon » Fri Jan 21, 2005 2:40 am

Most people think that Neko Majin Z's universe is not apart of the Dragonball timeline. If not that, they think it's an alternate timeline or dimension. I disagree!!!

I believe Neko Majin Z takes place in the exact timeline as Dragonball. People have pointed out that because Vegeta can go SSJ2 and also cause Onio can go SSJ2, that this must be a huge plot hole or like i said earlier an alternate timeline. He's a question for ya. Who was Vegeta speaking with when his cell phone rang when he was fighting Z? Who sent him to find Kuriza. Why is everything so bizzare in the Neko Majin comics? My theory is that there;s a supreme being in the dragon universe. Who else but toriyama himself. He's the god-like being in the comic. Even though you don't see him appear in the manga. I think he, out of humor told Vegeta to pretend Freeza sent him to go find Kuriza and Onio. Notice how Vegeta was very annoyed at the end of Neko Majin Z3, it's like he was forced by someone way stronger than Freeza. It couldn't have really been Freeza that sent him, considering that Vegeta would be way stronger than him as a SSj2. Yes he's SSJ2, not SSJ1. Notice the electricity around Vegeta and also Onio. So Neko Majin is more of a spin-off parody, than just a parody based off of dragonball. I bet Akira Toriyama will draw himself as the strongest being in the universe in the upcoming Neko Majins. Maybe he'll appear as the Tori-bot. That's just my thought on the whole subject, i probably bored the crap out of yo0u guys, but hey i was bored, i had nothing else to do tonight. Thanks for your time.[/b]

I don't think so. If NMZ did in fact take place in the DBZ continuity, then Kuriza would have most probably been killed by Vegeta. Also, Vegeta comes to Earth in a Saiyan spacepod, if I remember correctly, all of the Saiyan spacepods on Earth have been destroyed one way or another.

Interesting theory though, Neko Majin Z is one big self-insertion fan comic !!
My heart is calm. It is quiet and pure. Make no mistake though, it's pure evil.

Er...no. Just...no.

Neko Majin Z is a gag manga, pure and simple. Vegeta even says so himself: "This is the last time I appear in a gag manga!". It's not an alternate dimension, it's a joke. There's no need to over analyze it.

I'm with them. Toriyama just made a spoof in which he parodies his own creation, and occasionally adds characters from DBZ for the heck of it.

Wasn't Dragon Ball originally a gag manga?

Well in ways, but it was mainly a Shonen adventure story with Toriyama's typical humour thrown in. And anyway you know, young boys, and a lot of girls, find fart jokes and bathroom humour hilarious.

I agree with Deus...I just see it as a funny parody with no reason to analyze its place in the DB universe.
Dragon Ball started as a sort of gag manga, parodying the old Journey to the West tale...but it took of a life of its own and the rest is manga/anime history. With that said, Neko Majin/Z is a parody of a parody.

I wonder who else will appear in this "gag" manga? So far we got....

Z
Mike
Onio
Kuriza
Thunder Bolt
Usa Majin
Goku
Vegeta
Mr. Buu
the demon from the first "Neko Majin"
the fat school teacher from "Neko Majin Mike"
the little boy
Onio's ex-wife
Kobayashi Pete
the Pichi
the shark-like monster from "Neko Majin Mike"
and the other 26 Neko Majins

I'm hoping Akira Toriyama is enjoying himself by drawing this new manga so that he'll make it somewhat long. It would be cool to see at least 3 volumes full of Neko Majin goodness.

I honestly think that, with the Neko Majin comics, Akira Toriyama has done to Dragon Ball what shouldn't have ever be done to any series: he made the whole thing the equivalent of a dream sequence. In the NM series, while some of the characters, such as Goku, Mr. Buu, Vegeta, and Frieza "really" exist, the entire DB story as we have known it for the past 20 years is nothing more than a comic book, both inside AND outside of the fictional universe.

This ruins everything! This means that those 13 years we spent sitting, biting our nails, wondering how Goku will be victorious over the next villain, wondering how long it will take to sift through the filler to see that victory on TV, wondering when GT will finally be over, was all spent over something that wasn't "really" happening. Instead, we spent that time on something that was merely entertaining a magical cat and some Uub-clone.

This has ruined a few series in the past, the biggest one being Roseanne. In the last episode, it was revealed that the whole series was the novel loosely based on the life of another, very similar, but still different fictional Roseanne. For such an emotional and character-driven plot, this end was both jarring and extremely awkward. The same can be said of the soap opera Saint Elsewhere. In the last episode, the whole series was shown to be in the imagination of an autistic boy.

The only series this kind of twist could do any good for is the "Matrix" (man, I wish Revolutions was just one of Neo's dreams).
To a strong man, the end justifies the means. To a stronger man, the means justify the end.

Eh... he's just poking fun at his own creation. Shouldn't be taken serious in the least. >.>;;

And personally I find it fun when a piece of fiction breaks the fourth wall/barrier. XD (Or in other words, that it admits that it's a comic/movie/game/whatever)

But in any case, the Neko Majin Z comics should by no means be regarded as part of the DB continuation. >.>;; I mean in the Neko Majin Z manga the Saiyajin race seems to be quite alive and kicking. And going Super Saiyajin seems to be the most common thing amongst them.

Yes...just because Dragon Ball exists within the story of Neko Majin doesn't make it merely a comic within NM. It doesn't really "ruin" anything. Neko Majin is like the Scary Movie...of Dragon Ball. Sort of.

It would be pretty cool if he made Neko Majin Z into a full manga with a story line and everything, whilst still keeping the same humour and parodys. It could be quiet popular.

Look....NMZ is a parody.....

And yet if you actually read NMZ4, you'd have seen that it all is supposed to occur on the same earth....supposedly. It's a parody for goodness sake.

Agreed, though, does anyone think Toriyama will ever work on a major manga title ever?.

Not a chance in Hell. He's more-or-less said so (in not quite so many words). The production schedule of DB pretty much traumatized the poor man for life! No wonder he can't remember anything, anymore! :D

It'd be interesting if he made Neko Majin his "new major work" though, where he simply produces it at his own pace. ie: "I'm tired, next chapter is in 6 months instead of 2 weeks." :P
Maybe that's what he's already doing. :D
