I have a faint memory of Guru, or someone talking about the arrival of a Blonde haired warrior to save their race when evil comes...aka, Goku stopping Frieza...so, was this ever mentioned in the Manga, the anime, or a guidebook and is there more to the tale? I'm not really sure where I heard it...

The Grand Elder does mention something about a Super Saiyan. He assumed that because Vegeta was able to defeat Piccolo, he must have been one. Of course, he didn't realize at the time that he and God had split. Otherwise, this sounds like a really really weird dubbing error.

The only time Guru ever mentioned Super Saiyan was when he believed that was the type of Saiyan capable of defeating Piccolo. Aside from that, Freeza and Ginyu were the only other guys to really talk about the Super Saiyan. Nothing like you mentioned.
