Filler you miss...
Filler you miss...
What is the single bit of filler that was in Z and has been cut from Kai that you miss?
I would say the Arlia episode. It showed a bit of Vegeta and Nappa in action before they landed on Earth and it allowed you to see their personalities. They killed the tyrant king and just after the king died and the people thanked them they decided to blow it up. I thought it was cool when Nappa says, "Those people called us heroes" to which Vegeta replies, "Being a hero is highly overrated". Which was sort of ironic and it showed that Vegeta and Nappa didn't truly consider themselves evil. I also kinda liked Vegeta's hair and armor color.
Also there was this epic line.
King : Yetti kill them. They are VERY bad men.
Nappa: *seems sort of confused* We're bad?
Vegeta: *smirks* Well... a little.
I wish that episode could have stayed in and they just recolored Vegeta's armor.
We might as well add which filler we are glad is gone.
Possible tie between Gohan meeting the orphan children and the Pendulum room for me.

The driving lesson episode was amusing.
Everything else varied from mediocre to complete garbage for me.
The stuff I hate the most was all the Namek filler.
Bulma's wacky adventures and Goku flying though another asteroid field.

Re: Filler you miss...
I feel like they should have left in more of the training on Earth, maybe do a montage or something. It just feels a little too quick going from Raditz to Vegeta and Nappa.
Also I am disappointed that in later episodes they removed Vegeta's training montage when he is explaining how he became Super Saiyan.
Also I don't like it when they remove material that actually was in the Manga, like Nappa and Vegeta reading Gohan, Krillin and Piccolo's power levels. For some reason I like that scene and it was gone for no reason.

I kinda miss some of Gohan's training with Piccolo. Like Cootie said, it seems like they all got ready a little too quickly. With Z you felt the slow rising of tension as Vegeta and Nappa slowly got closer.
Other than that, I don't miss too much. I'm especially glad that the god-awful "Fake Namek" arc is gone. That's easily my least favorite part of all DBZ.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

They did do a montage of them all training at the palace.omegacwa wrote:I feel like they should have left in more of the training on Earth, maybe do a montage or something.
Shit I forgot about that, probably erased it from my mind due to its awfulness.TheBlackPaladin wrote: I'm especially glad that the god-awful "Fake Namek" arc is gone.
Re: Filler you miss...
I miss Princess Snake, I have extreme nostalgia for that episode. Plus it was a fun little side story for Goku.
Re: Filler you miss...
Oh my fake Namek was horrid indeed. It lasted far too long and it didn't reveal anything nor did it even have a real action scene. Pretty horrid.TheBlackPaladin wrote:I kinda miss some of Gohan's training with Piccolo. Like Cootie said, it seems like they all got ready a little too quickly. Absolutely none. Okay, maybe Tenshinhan, Chaozu and Lunch when Krillin and Bulma going to inform them about the Saiyans. However I too didn't like when they removed manga material.

Vegeta and Nappa aren't that stupid. Of course they knew they were evil.Cootie wrote:I thought it was cool when Nappa says, "Those people called us heroes" to which Vegeta replies, "Being a hero is highly overrated". I meant more specifically Gohan's adventures. I like some of that filler.dan2026 wrote:They did do a montage of them all training at the palace.omegacwa wrote:I feel like they should have left in more of the training on Earth, maybe do a montage or something.

I am sad they removed Gohan and the robot. I recently began to really like that filler episode since it really develops Gohan as a character, and I loved the voice of the Robot.
I am so glad they got rid of that stupid Fake Namek filler. I remember when I first watched my VHS tapes from Pioneer and really thought it was Namek. Only to find out that I watched those episodes for nothing since it was all fake.

Re: Filler you miss...
Meh, I don't really see any point in missing filler. I mean, if I want to see it, I'll watch Z, which I do. If I want to follow the real story, I'll read the manga, which I do. But for fun, I'll play along. Although in my case, it'll be filler that hasn't happened yet. I'm gonna miss Yamucha and the others trying to blast Cell at the end of the Cell Games. I always thought that was a really great moment. And I have no idea how Kai's gonna handle the Great Saiyaman stuff. That was the one thing I always thought was better in the anime than the manga, but they're almost incompatible. How in the world are they going to make that match up?
Anyway, I've never really gotten the point for the Fake Namek hatred. There's nothing great about it, and it is a waste of time, but I've always found it marginally enjoyable. As for the "there's no action," um, there's plenty of action: fighting and stealing from a poor giant minding his own business, a race against time in an acidic lake. Outrunning a giant boulder, Raiders of the Lost Ark style. That seems pretty action-packed to me, and things that Dragon Ball proper never really does. It just doesn't have any "beefy guys powering up and beating the shit out of each," which I personally think is a plus. Garlic Jr. was nothing but that (except for its bookend episodes) and was complete ass. And, finally, it's actually a good old fashioned hunt for the dragonballs. So, yeah, nothing great about it. Barely above average. Just don't see how it's the worst filler ever. There's plenty of worse filler than it.

Re: Filler you miss...
I think it's more due to the fact that we just came off of a filler two parter (I...think it was a two parter) and we know how much filler is going to mixed into the Freeza saga itself. I suppose it's kind of guilty by association.
Re: Filler you miss...
If I remember the scene right, there is no way they are going to be able to cut round that.Gaffer Tape wrote: I'm gonna miss Yamucha and the others trying to blast Cell at the end of the Cell Games.
So expect it to stay. Although probably trimmed somewhat.

Re: Filler you miss...
Anything with the humans. I miss Tenshinhan, Krillin, and Yamcha climbing Korin's tower. I miss their training. I miss Yamcha playing baseball. I miss Lunch chasing Tenshinhan down, and coming across Upa and Bora. I miss the Earthlings dominating the Ginyu force on King Kai's planet.
Actually, I don't miss them at all because I have the Dragon Boxes... Or wait... Will have Volume 1 soon. Why do I have 2 and 3 but not 1?

Re: Filler you miss...
There was plenty of action, but I didn't like the fact that some giant ogre and a couple of snails with tentacles were able to give Gohan and Krillian a run for their money. But, I did sympathize with the aliens that were trapped there. They mentioned being stranded on that awful planet for a very long time, and at the end you see that they are still stuck there. It is a shame really.Gaffer Tape wrote: Anyway, I've never really gotten the point for the Fake Namek hatred. Well, I was going to make a reply...then I saw what Gaffer Tape wrote (check your forum PMs, by the way!)
Owning the comic and Dragon Ball Z...I can't say I really 'miss' anything...because I own just about all of both of them.
I suppose seeing a edited down version of the Garlic Junior arc wouldn't been interesting...but then they'd have to recast Vinegar and Zald.

Re: Filler you miss...
Bleh, good riddance to bad filler I say. I just miss the driving episode. The saiyan arc training crap bored me to tears, and I was sick of every other episode ending with either Goku still running on the Snake Way or Vegeta and Nappa on their way. I was glad the manga stuck to the point and I was glad Kai followed suit.
The only parts I really miss was stuff in the manga or stuff that didn't need to be cut out, like cutting out the parts explaining that Bulma brought the Dragon Radar and that Goku had Dragonballs in his house. Without that it's WTF, where did Bulma have the Dragon Radar all of a sudden.

Re: Filler you miss...
Pretty much just the Saiyan arc filler, which helped to build up the oncoming threat of the Saiyans and let the audience get to know Gohan. There are a few filler episodes here and there I like, but to me, the Saiyan arc filler is pretty fundamental to the way the anime tells the story, even if it's not from the manga (I realize that makes little sense).
Oh, and the flashbacks to King Vegeta leading a raid on Freeza's ship. That was really, really good filler material.
